Happy 4th from this Canadian to all my American relatives and friends. I was born in what is today the Czech Republic in that brief period between liberation from the Nazi occupiers heading west and a different sort of "liberation" coming in from the east in the form of Soviet Red Army tanks, followed by 50 years of "Socialism". We escaped to the West in '49 hoping to reunite with family in the U.S. but through a series of circumstances, landed in Canada. Sometimes you Americans forget the blessings of Providence and the moral foundation in what Jefferson called "Nature and "nature's God". May you reflect today on your past, warts and all, and celebrate with joy and gratitude. You are still the envy of the world. Canadians and Americans are children of the same "Mother".

I think everyone in North America and South America should be grateful to the English and the Spanish for giving us a common language and culture. France and Portugal Portugal cobtributed too, but to a lesser degree.

I love the ignorance of the slavery angle. At that point in world history slavery had been the norm for tens of thousands of years across the globe (as everyone was doing it). All those other countries, including African and Asian ones, that already existed didn't illegalize slavery. In fact many had been running for hundreds of years with slavery. Somehow all of them get a pass and the US is held accountable. These folks are a--holes of the highest order.

I think felons after 5 years off good conduct and have shown they can be law abiding citizens should get they’re rights back. That includes right to vote and your 2A rights back.

That young woman who liked Indonesia so much - it's a nice country for sure ... while she has US money. Try living there. No welfare. Low paying jobs. And money or not, no one is interested in her preferred pronouns or any of the other nonsense that forms her core beliefs. Same with most of South East Asia. China, in case she missed the memo, is a dictatorship with zero free speech. She's in a perpetual honeymoon relationship with the places she travels to. She's a bit like Marie Antoinette who had a peasant village built so she could enjoy the illusion of country life while having every comfort imported from the palace, experiencing none of the downsides, and enjoying very deferential treatment from everyone. She can't reasonably compare her Disneyland impression of other countries to regular life in the US.
If you want to know what people really think, watch what they do, not what they say, and massive numbers of people outside the West make considerable efforts to get into the West, the US in particular. It's not the other way around.
