    A BEAR GOT INTO OUR VACATION CABIN IN ‘07 IN LAKE TAHOE😮! It was CRAZY! I left a kitchen window cracked & this bear literally tore the screen off then slid the window open & climbed on in! I was upstairs giving my 4 year old son a bath & heard a lot of noise downstairs. I thought it was a burglar so I called 911. The dispatcher asked how I could be certain it was a burglar. She advised me to just stay upstairs in the bathroom & since she knew I was from out of town, she stayed on the phone w/me while she radioed the sheriff (who happened to be just a few miles from me!). I heard them talking fast back & forth & she got back to me & said “Lock the bathroom door. It’s a bear!” I was shocked & tried to stay calm for my son’s sake. The sheriff watched the bear climb out of the window & sit on the front porch with a box of my son’s cereal lol! He tried to scare it off by shooting rubber pellets but it would not leave! After 10 minutes or so it started to slowly walk away. I’ll remember that as long as I live😂

I'm also a retired emergency manager, police officer and EMT out of Oklahoma. Disaster planning and preparedness is very familiar to me. Also is our preparedness cache is a digital trunked police fire and EMS scanner where we can tune in to most public safety radio transmission.

    I had to laugh out loud when you asked 'Do you have a cat?'. I picked up two Maincoon kittens a while back, had no carrier for them and put them into pillow cases for the short ride home. Of course they both got out and scurried all over the inside of my VW bug. At one point I actually had to pull off the road, because one was under my gas peddle. Great memories. Good lessons learned. Those brown bears were a real treat! Thank you for sharing.

We were about 300 yards from the truck and looked down and saw a paw print the size of a dinner plate. It was a polar bear print. We RAN back to the truck and never did see the actual bear.

    Another great Hanks video! Yep, this one night I was at work in the New Orleans area and we were talking about My vacation the following week. My boss and I were listening to a weather report that the weather was going to turn sour for the first couple days of my vacation (staycation really, we weren't going anywhere), but it wouldn't be too awfully bad. Two days into my much needed vacation this thing called Hurricane Katrina came along and whooped our pee-too-tees. What I'm getting at is we NOW take weather warnings very seriously. I'll be getting home from work next week and I'm planning on replacing the China bomb tires on our rv with something less explosive......blah, blah, blah. I babble. Stay safe Hanks! Seeeeya!

  • @Jeannie.B

  • @LindaSchulz-h9n
    @LindaSchulz-h9n Год назад +1

    Yo Hanks! Love your videos! Please be careful with the warning signal you are getting from your truck regarding your trailer brakes. It's rarely addressed correctly by just adding de-electric grease. We had the same issue with our Grand Design Reflection. That message "ding ding ding" from the truck drove us nuts! RV dealer couldn't find anything and ditto with the Chevy dealer. Everybody, and I mean every good intentioned fellow RVer, told us it was in the 7-way pin connection. We replaced the connector, but it still kept on dinging! Last year, we finally found a mobile tech in Yellowstone that exposed the problem. Turns out the insulation on the wires running to the brakes were worn down to bare wire in spots from the constant rubbing inside the axle tubes. We would get the message, "check trailer brakes", followed immediately by "trailer connected". The message would be intermittent, but when it would start, it would last for what seemed to be an eternity, then just stop. Since you are running a Solitude, you could have this very problem. Note: when the mobile tech replaced the wires, he ran them on the outside of the axle tubes, and zip tied them in place. Easy peasy! Hope this helps.

    Great video. Dream trip of ours some day. I had the same issue with my Chevy HD with the trailer brake system. After trying the dielectric grease, replacing the brake controller module on the dash and then looking into replacing the module under the bed of the truck. I ended up rewiring the brake system wires on both axles under the camper. I ended up finding a wire that runs inside the axle had frayed right where it comes out of the axle before connecting to the brake drum on the trailer. Which in turn led to occasional alerts on my dash board over and over and over again. After rewiring all of this, problem solved.

  • @papajjohnson5985
    @papajjohnson5985 Год назад +9

    Hey Hanks', I really enjoy your videos and am really interested in your Alaska adventures! Regarding the trailer warning light/buzzer you're getting, I hope the dielectric grease on your trailer connector continues to work for you. If it doesn't, check the ground connection where your truck to trailer pigtail connects to the trailer (probably in an electrical box tucked up under the hitch box area). I had fits with this same warning after a trailer dealer put a new pigtail on my 5th wheel, during a long trip, of course. I finally checked this connection, tightened it up, and never had a trailer warning again with that trailer. It seems like a rule that if you have a weird, intermittent electrical problem, it's a bad ground connection somewhere. Hope this helps! Y'all have fun out there and stay safe!

    • @Aazmodeus
      @Aazmodeus Год назад

    THANKS, Hanks for sharing the bear family with us! Made my day. Wondering about a furry friend traveling companion for my solo travels... maybe a ferret. We'd had one before and it worked out very well, so easy to care for. Any trashed towel or old pair of jeans makes a great nest, easy to train to a litter box and thrives on dry cat food. But I'd rather have a person, especially to keep me awake while driving and be a copilot driver as well.

    Nee-Nee - Look at it this way you got some warning of an impending event. Even if it turned out to be more or less a false alarm. Most weather-related events give you some warning. You need to be in earthquake country and get a 5.0+ without any warning. The good part is you know you are alive afterwards.
