Everyone knew he wanted Rhanyera to rule after him. Alicent went against her husband's wishes, and it led to their downfall eventually.
@@MissyRose94 Not everyone, of course, otherwise all would have sided with Rhaenyra...!
@@rijoenpial I said everyone knew, not that everyone cared. There were too many powerful men that didn't want a woman in charge, so they jumped on what Alicent said so they could ignore what Vicerys wanted.
Yeah, some last words on a deathbed from a feeble-minded old man is no reason to go against his plan he was committed to for 10 (or more?) years.
@@zigzag3600 You forget Otto poisoned Alicent's mind fueling thoughts that her children were not safe under Rhaenyra's rule... So all it took was Viserys in his final moments to mention the prophecy to the person who knew nothing about it... but then again he thought Alicent was Rhaenyra, so... I think Alicent is not a villain, nor is Rhaenyra... Both victims, one of a neglecting father obsessed with a male heir, the other of a overzealous, suspicious father who poisoned her daughter 's mind against her former best friend! Things are not as one dimensional as you may think!
@@zigzag3600well in the books it wasn’t like that. Its been some time since I read the books but I think in the books it was Ser Criston Cole who was more the persuasive mind behind the coronation of Aegon. Alicent just kind of had to play along, and its not like she had a chance.
Emma is such a good actor, you can see Nyra's grief change to shock and relief through Alicent's explination
You can see season 2 of House of the Dragon is as terrible as season 8 of Game of Thrones. Alicent could have captured Rhaenyra and won the war, saving her children. There is no logic in the script

Maybe they should start using different names 😂
Well vicerys wasn't talking about that aegon
The skill that Emma has as an actor really shines through in this scene soooooo well!!! You can literally see the despair in Rhaenyras eyes as Alicent tells her that her father really wanted Aegon on the throne instead of her, the way that she was finally ready to just give into it, and then when Alicent says “the prince that was promised” the way she lights back up again with hope, and with shock, and familiarity with those words from when Viserys spoke them to her. You could see that she was ready to fight, for what was rightfully hers now that it was really confirmed that the throne was hers all along. Emma is a phenomenal actor!!!
I was gonna leave a comment but I couldn't have said it better . This might be the greatest piece of acting in every single scene in a song of ice and fire history. Tyrian and varys and little finger and Jeffrey did good but Emma knocked it out the park. And you called it perfectly. Anyone rooting for team green is just a person who has bad juju and no one probably likes. Alicent should go slice her wrist . She got her grand child , Luke and everyone else who dies killed. Otto hightower is the worse one in all of this.when his head rolls I will do a toast and have a glass of wine and rewind it over and over.
This episode shows well that Alicent and Rhaenyra have no brains. Alicent could have called the guards and taken Rhaenyra prisoner. The Greens would have won the war and Alicent's children would have lived. Horrible scenario
@@ВелиалВинчестерno, she couldn’t. She had no real power and no one would remotely turn to her as a queen as she has no true claim to the title. She was a Queen consort, now a queen dowager. A true rein can only be inherited and as the king publicly spoke about his daughter taking over, even in making a point when it truly matter when treason was happening while he laid on his death bed. The aspect that anyone played in to the boys being an heir is something they should of known would end very, very badly for them. Alicent was scared she would lose her home and lifestyle when in reality they all would of been able to get along wonderfully had they put their greed down. The whole kingdom disproved of Alicent and even those who utilize her children was for their own selfish reason. If things played out how she wanted, her and her children would of still ended up dead as neither of them was viewed as the true leader.
@@kitkat80088I think he’s talking about the scene it’s self. “Guards!”
Agree! She deserves an award for this season!!!
See, THIS is what happens when not only you name your kids with the SAME FRICKIN' NAME LOL but also when you HEED THE INCOHERENT WORDS OF A DYING MAN, you invite MISUNDERSTANDINGS! So much bloodshed would have been avoided if only Viserys had named his son with a different name! LOL I am sorry, but ya gotta admit, this is SO stupidly HILARIOUS!!! LOL
No. Otto and aegons supporters would have usurped either way, perhapz if aegon refused under aemonds claim instead.
I dont think it would have mattered, she was to far gone with the scheme with her father (otto) to change direction at that time.
Even if she did Otto would have never accepted it and prob used Aemon to usurp the crown instead.
Im not sold on it solving anything in thee end.
@@miche6563 Ser Otto was the Hand of THREE kings so he had already seen the mistrust, distrust and fearful threats that royal siblings pose to the crown, Daemon's case in point! That is why he convinced a very impressionable young daughter Alicent that Rhaneyra on the throne would forever be a threat to her children as her children would forever be a threat to Rhaenyra's in Rhaenyra's eyes! Now, I doubt that would have come to pass, but Otto had already planted the seeds! So, when Viserys incoherently spoke the name of Aegon, Alicent took it as him choosing Aegon as legitimate heir, therefore changing his mind! Her fear prevented her from questioning the state of mind of dying Viserys, and his words plyaed into her deepest fears! Of course, we know he was just deliriously speaking about the prophecy of Aegon the Conqueror, but Alicent did not know about said prophecy so she mistakenly and yet HOPEFULLY took that as a sign of Viserys choosing Aegon to rule instead of Rhaenyra! She was not evil, just primed to take it as a sign! Viserys was a fool, a disingenuous pacifist who completely misread the growing and unmistakable tensions within his own family, either downplaying them or just plain ignoring them! Had Viserys tapped into the pulse of not only his family but also the realm's customs and traditions of the past, he would not have risked plunging the realm into civil war by keeping Rhaenyra as his heir! A KING must BALANCE his own wishes and the NEEDS of the realm! Rhaenyra would never have garnered the support of all Houses being a woman and Viserys SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT! He was virtually throwing her own daughter into the FIRE, breaking with tradition, just because he felt guilty about neglecting her for the pursuit of a male heir!
HEY I am GOING to randomly capitalize random WORDS.
@@mikemiken1963 it is called STRESSING key words, genius! Don't leave school, boyo! LOL
Viserys thought Alicent was Rhaenyra. I only realised that after this scene. Hence the “do you remember” and saying “it is true”. It is you who must unite the realm. Aegon will come from your seed, which he did(Jon Snow).
The cost of the Alicent’s mistake is quite sad, considering there’s no winning side from the dance of the dragon but the destruction of the House of the Dragon.
lol, the promised prince is Daenerys, not John Snow. Jon has nothing to do with the Targaryen heritage
Azor Ahai, which Melissandra is talking about, are the same person. and according to the prophecy, Azor Ahai should be born "after a long summer, when the stars have shed blood" - talking about the red comet that streaked across the sky at the moment Dany entered the fire and awakened the dragons. also a very important point in the prophecy: “Azor Ahai will be born among smoke and salt and awaken dragons from stone.” Daenerys lit a huge fire and flew into it, did not burn (R'golla the god of fire could not burn his Azor Ahai) AND AWAKENED DRAGONS LITERALLY FROM FOSSIL EGGS. Also in the book “Feast of Vultures” Samwell IV says: “The promised was a prince, not a princess. How stupid we were, we who considered ourselves wise men! Mistranslation error. Dragons, as Bart noted, have no gender - they are changeable, like flame, and each of them is either male or female. We have been deceived about this for a thousand years. The prophecy spoke of Daenerys being born among salt and smoke. Dragons prove it."
also Maester Aemon and Archmaester Marvin, recalling the prophecy about the promised prince, also mentioned “birth among salt and smoke”, “bloody star” and dragons - all this is again about Daenerys.
She pushed her perv drunk son to the crown then respect the kings wishes just like her father pushed her to marry the king to push his desires , sins of the father and mother like her caused this war , they couldn't just accept the status and wealth they already had , they needed more , greed was the curse of them and in game of thrones show high tower family don't even exist anymore

Even if viserys didn't mention anything about aegon I believe alicent and Otto would have still found a way to put their Aegon on the throne. At least Otto. He was hellbent on having his blood on the iron throne.
I agree because I get it’s different in the books she was definitely on board with stealing the throne from jump but in the show I like how it’s mainly Otto planting the seeds he would’ve still found a way and Alicent would’ve went along with it.
@@shania991 Alicent is so pliable for Otto. I thought there would be some difference at least after all these years as queen but nope. Her people pleasing tendencies is the reason for all this mess.
When Alicent tells Otto that Viserys changed his mind, his response was to turn to the council and say "then we can put into action what we have planned for years."
Alicent's mistake gave them a little bit more legitimacy, but Otto was *always* going to overlook Rhaenyra
Yea he was already in the process of doing it even before Alicent came to the small council room to put her support behind Aegon. She was shocked that they were already plotting without her, and even if she objected it - likely would have happened anyway. The only thing I can think of is if she sent his brother and guard to find Aegon and keep him from her father and off the throne.
Alicent: Oh.
Also Alicent: So anyways, you can’t have the throne. Oh, and I am fucking Cole. ALOT!
And then they discussed what he's like in bed, had a good laugh and decided to stop the war. xD
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@zigzag3600
And then they shared bed together with Sir Crispin Cole
🤣🤣🤣
Even if Alicent wanted to fix what she said, what would she say to the Council? "Sorry, I misunderstood Aegon the Conqueror with my son. Can we stop all of this war, please?"? The Council would never believe that (rather say, they would refuse to believe that) because they do not want a Rhaenyra ruling them. Alicent basically said that herself, she cannot control the situation and her allies anymore.
About Cole's thing, I can easily imagine them like:
Rhaenyra- "Oh, he's amazing in bed, isn't he? Sad thing he's so f*ck1ng dumb!"
Alicent- "RIGHT?? I don't know what to do with him."
Rhaenyra- "Just do what I did, honey: Say that he's awesome, then dump him. 😌"
Alicent- "Ooh! 😮"
a lot is two words
While i am glad to see Alicent finally realising she was wrong the sad truth is Otto would have done the coup anyway. He was already planning it with the small council and would jave swayed Alicent to his side
This is what I keep saying, it doesn't matter if he said anything to Alicent, or if she mistook it and kept it to herself her father would have put Aegon on the throne anyways
And he’s John snow
In the books, Alicent wanted to put her son on the throne as much as her father. This is a terrible series that tries to make men out to be villains and women to be heroes. Series for feminists who are 12 years old

It was just too late
After Alicent leaves Rhaenyra now understands that Viserys did not change his mind at who the rightful heir was. She held off doing ANYTHING until she was certain of that. The slight smile at the end of this scene says it all. And now Alicent knows SHE misunderstood what Viserys was saying. So it begins.
I’m so glad we have this scene so the rest of the show the decisions will be based on a true understanding of the situation. I’m glad Rhaenyra got to see that Alicent (to her knowledge) didn’t believe she was lying about Viserys changing his mind. It’s so sad that despite being the one with the most to lose it seems like Rhaenyra may be the only one that actually believed Alicent was telling the truth, even before she realized it was a misunderstanding. Olivia’s ability to convey such conviction and frustration at no one believing her, and Emma’s ability to show belief and turmoil at the possibility just with their facial expressions gave me goosebumps. These two deserve all the Emmys.
It was at this moment she knew she f***ed up 😂
It's sad that Viserys was probably trying to say something completely different. At that moment he likely thought he's talking to Rhaenyra and he said those words to reafirm to her that she's the heir.
He thought he was finishing the same conversation with her. When she and Daemon first got back to kings landing then they had the meal he started hurting got pumped up on milk of the poppy. bada-bing

17th? This series is based on a civil war that happened in the 12th century. The 17th century is closer to the time Game of Thrones is set in, 300 years after this one
@@emilybarclay8831 calling game of thrones' setting similar to the 16th century is generous lmao
they had firearms. they knew what was beyond the western ocean. the age of absolutism wouldn't have featured a scene where a woman tears up the king's decree without that same woman being viciously clubbed before being burnt alive for committing high treason.

Alicent is too scared to accept the fact that she was wrong. It was indeed her mistake that started everything. Well actually her father would still carried things out the way he did anyway, but she should feel guilty about lying her ass off (seconds after stating that she didn’t). Poor our Black queen who still wished for peace and was so depressed trusting all the words from Alicent’s mouth. that was my favorite scene, gave me goosebumps
And it was at that moment that Alicent realized, that she royally, f#cked EVERYTHING up…
But he was wrong, it was Aegon Targaryen III Stark that was the song of ice and fire, prince that was promised. Right name, wrong dude. The prince to unite the kingdoms could do so because he never wanted the throne, but cared about the people.
The 7 kingdoms weren't united against the white walkers the phrofecy wasn't real 😂
Jon isn’t a stark or a Targaryen, although he has blood from both. He’s a Sand by birth and raised as a Snow
Viserys was a student of history. When the Song of Ice and Fire was pased to him, he likely delved into the history bolks to learn more about it out of curiousity. Then he mustve learned that the danger of the Night King was not entirely vanquished for both the lack of evidence and the foreboding tellings and signs through the histories.
it's so wild that what caused their downfall was a single misunderstanding.
Should've said
"Not Aegon the magnanimous? "
So Jon Snow was literally the prince that was promised in love how it all unfolds
Melisandre is right about the Jon Snow that he was the prince that was promised.
I think that Alicent denied it because she realises that her children never count for Viserys. It was always Rhaenyra. This is so sad, after everything she sacrifices for a husband who never care for her. He's the one to blame, with Otto, both of them destroy their daughters life.

Wow love this scene!
Through Jon Snow the Targaryen survived and no longer came to become mad people. From the wall he will conquer the world.
I think Viserys was hallucinating in the last moments of his life. Maybe he saw something or felt something. Like the last moments of Eamon Targaryen's life in Castle Black in the Game of Thrones. Whatever he has seen or felt may be giving the message to the audience that the Song of Ice and Fire is a person named Aegon, who could also be Jon Snow (the last Aegon Targaryen).
In the end it never mattered how Alicent took the king's dying words to mean. The coup began the day Aegon was born. I don't think even if Rhaenyra ended up marrying Aegon as Otto suggested would have saved the realm from war.
The prince that was promised is Jon Snow
There's no turning back
Alicent wanted her son to inherit the throne anyway, so she clung to Viserys' words, even realizing that it was probably the ravings of a sick dying man. She believes that the king treated her children unfairly, worse than Rhaenira, and it's true. Her son on the throne will be at least some kind of achievement and consolation, that she did not marry an old and sick king for nothing, raised children she did not really want, I feel sorry for Alicent, she did not live her life the way she wanted, she was a pawn in the game, and does not want to give away the winnings
WHEN YOU MARRY OUTSIDE OF THE FAMILY EVERYTHING GET FUCD UP 😂😂😂
Who would even consider Alicent’s son Aegon as the prince that was promised?
The greens wanted power and acted to take it.
Song of ice and fire? Well we all know how that ended didn’t we.
It's only right that Rhaenyra rules, I mean, she is his only child
It was in that moment that she knew
She f**ked up.
Alicent was right it’s too late for coming back.
He was speaking of Rhaenyras son Aegon lll. That’s what he was talking about. Alicent mistakenly thought it was about her failure of a son.
It was at this moment she knew she fucked up
The worst part is Alicent realized her mistake BUT she is in to deep to go back now! She can't control her children and has a whole counsel who put Aegon on the throne.
It was hard time times to understand u Alicent 😂 Rhaenyra is the true heir to the iron throne 👑
Obsession about the future ha..
One mistake took countless lifes and destroyed many others
If Viserys would’ve told Alicent the story earlier instead of waiting until he was basically dead so much could’ve be prevented. 🤦♂️
Unfortunately Daemon had her grandchild decapitated so now there is no going back. I understand that. Plus Aegon IS the lawful heir. He is the first born son and an actual "prince" that COULD be the prince that was promised. Rhaenyra is a princess. Then a queen...the 1st in their history. I think Aegon the 1st would've mentioned that part. In westeros, "sons before daughters, but daughters before uncles". Rhaenyra tears the realm apart.
I feel like they should have given Alicent the benefit of the doubt. Maybe a scene where Alicent tells her father the exact words that Viserys spoke, and Otto knowing exactly what it meant and choosing not to tell Alicent the truth.
Otto wouldnt know what it meant because the story is passed down from king to Heir
It was at this moment she knew she F###k up 😊
Tbf may have been worth telling more people
Dragons are down to a lone 7 year old stray because of these reasons:
Old men craved theirs to be the tallest flower in the garden.
Sick man failed to distribute his love fairly, kept chasing dreams and was full of milk of the poppy.
Angry woman got obsessed with what she tought would keep her family safe and do realm well, bought what she thought she heard, believing it'll give meaning to her wasted time.
An angry boy in a mans body lost control o'er his anger 1., then o'er the situation and cursed himself all his ilks.
But before all that, a limping snake whispered things that he shouldn't have.
Didn’t Viserys think he was talking to Rhaenyra at the end? If so, that shows you how much he really loved her and believed in her. Alicent was so desperate to have her son sit on the throne that she grasped at anything that Viserys said and twisted it to fit her ambition.
Doesn't matter. Rhaenyra's only legitimate heir is her nephew, aegon😅 she never got divorced( likw rhaegar secretly in got) from laenor, making her children with daemon illegitimate as well!! And since viserys didn't say he doesn't mean his son, he COULD have meant the child to be the prince that was promised so interpret what you want.
y bueno rhaenyra fue la que no quiso hablar con alicent cuando aún no moría nadie💀
greed.
Rhaenyra is the real QUEEN
This scene had me yelling at Alicent to use her freaking words cause after all the stupid ass mistakes and misunderstandings that happen in this show I was so sure they were gunna let Rhaenyra believe Viserys changed his mind 😂 it’s a testament to how frustrating this show is that this scene had me stressing so bad
Lmfao meant John snow 😂
This proves that bringing one wrong person it your life will destroy not only yours whole your family existence 😢😢
I don’t think y’all realize even if Alicent never heard Vizzy say those words. It still would’ve been a civil war. She had no real power. Otto damn near sent ninjas to kill her last season.
in the books it went completly diffrent
-
all this shit didn´t happen
-
it was simply otto be like:
well i as the hand of the king speak with the kings voice so i name Aegon heir
Alicent really believed the King who had gotten off his deathbed to defend Rhaenyra and her sons a few hours earlier could suddenly change his mind and disinherit Rhaenyra to make a rapist-drunk the heir
Team Green gonna win the season 2 finale.
At this point, unfortunately, it's too late
If only he named him SALAL. This would never happened
Or Jimbo. Nice name but not for politician.
Well... can we truly say that the prophesy in did happend? Because Jon in the series al least is not the ruler of the seven kindoms... So a light here I'll be very gratefull!!!
Narrator: and this is when Alicent realized that she done fucked up
That lying b word
