Nice demo, might try shorting the resistor leads with your screwdriver rather than the terminals with a piece of wire. I've found that to be easier to do one handed.

I don’t know. But I do come across a lot of 8112 accessories on eBay.
Newer versions can use POPIT and OctoPOPIT zone modules, which are really common.
