Beautiful set of bowls Frank, shaped well and small bits of character to suit each one. You look more comfortable at the lathe too. You can see the difference between the grown turning and final turning. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍
Thanks Rob. Beech is a lovely wood. Here in the Netherlands you see many wooden kitchen utensils such as cutting boards and spoons made of beech wood. The fine grain structure makes it very suitable for smooth finishing and making it food safe.
Mooie schaal weer uit zo'n blok hout. Onvoorstelbaar. Ik kijk echter niet alleen naar wat er ontstaat, maar zie ook met genoegen wat er af komt! Maar ja, da's eigenbelang. De olie doet ook wonderen. Da's met recht de finishing touch.
Nice story you told here Frank, thanks ! I love beech but it's expensive to ship from Calif. Of course in Europe it seems it is plentiful. Keep 'em coming👍 Stay safe. -Mike😷
Beech is a beautiful wood. We have quite a lot here in this region, but in the Netherlands only 4% is beech. Oak (18%) and pine (33%) are in the majority. I wish we had more (black) walnut. I love walnut. Thanks for watching Mike! All the best.
@@TheTinyWorkshop For pieces under 10 inches Maple and cherry are fairly inexpensive while black walnut is a little more so. These are easily available and locally grown in eastern half of the US. I get maple and cherry a lot LOL !
@@TheTinyWorkshop Yes, I think so. Only cherry found in US is called black cherry. There was a huge cherry tree at a local college and it had the sweetest cherries. Of course, wild ones don't get much TLC so YMMV. And orchard trees are heavily pruned and cultivated so they really aren't wild. Japanese Cherry Blossom trees are not the same either. Amer. is Prunus serotina; Eur. is Prunus avium.
@@mpart_woodlathe-stuff I meant the wild black cherry. The Prunus serotina. I know these from the orchards here in the area. I have a few small pieces of this wood in my storage. Thanks Mike.
I have to say it was wonderful to make those other bowls without filming. I can really be in a trance for a while. Then the world is no bigger than my tiny workshop 😊
@@TheTinyWorkshop It sounds like a good story. I was working with wood by two last weeks and didn't turn on the camera. Was weird but I was feeling like a craftsman not like YT star.
Four bowls in one video, great work Frank! That Beech looks great, I guess I have some of it here as well? Haven't managed to make anything from it yet but that will come. Seeing these beautiful bowls is of course giving me additional motivation to put a piece of it on the lathe. Great video editing job also!
Thanks for the compliments Leo. Yes, you also have some pieces of this beech. I will find out the location of the tree for you so that you can register it on your site. That's a very nice addition by the way! Maybe I want that......😊
Nice job Frank 👍. I've been thinking about turning beech wood. After watching this I think I'll pick some up to turn. I subbed your channel. Looking forward to more projects. Thanks for sharing. Safe turning, Rc.
Welcome Rc 🤝. If you can get beech wood, you should definitely turn it. It is very pleasant and beautiful wood. I am sure you will enjoy it. Take care. Frank.
This is an excellent example of twice-turning bowls start to finish!
Thank you🤗
Great looking beech bowl
Thanks Chris.
Great set of bowls with some lovely shapes.
Thanks! Glad you like this bowls too 🤗

You've perfected you gouge tehnic.👏👏
I practice and I learn, and I practice and I learn. And so it gets better every time.
Those are fine looking bowls Frank. And a great job on the video. So relaxing to watch.
Well done!

Thanks you Gary.
I have enjoyed the whole project and have learned a lot from it.

Het meeste is al in je kippenhok verwerkt 😁. Ik ben zelf ook heel enthousiast over de olie afwerking. Het voelt ook lekker aan.
Nice video Frank and beautiful bowls 👍👍
Thanks Jojo. They turned out very good.

Is the cherry really the fruit tree cherry 🍒 or is this a common name for this tree?

Hi Frank, They are a fantastic set of bowls. I really like the finish but can't find grapeseed oil here for some reason. Take care mate. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Huw. I just buy the grapeseed oil in the supermarket. Can be found in the same path as the olive oil 🤗
