The gun is small and compact and has to be concealable for his purpose. The assembling parts can be hidden in a few different locations of the body so it wouldn`t stand out and could avoid being found in case he was being screened and patted by security. And it will be no problem to go through the metal detector since the gun was made of a non-metallic, composite material. In this clip, Malkovich was also preparing the bullets made of the same material as a gun but seems like he decided to use conventional ammunition and I`m impressed how he brought them undetected by a scanner at the entrance. How scary if all his plans did work accordingly.

I watched this part of this movie 1000 times, and it's burned into my brain. I still have not seen the whole movie, nor do I know what it's about. Only 90's kids will understand. TNT was wild.
The Leary character from this movie is basically a Treadstone agent from the Bourne films. A conditioned, emotionless killing robot manufactured by the government, then marked for elimination when it goes out of control. Only difference is that Bourne fought to regain his humanity, Leary just went further into the darkness.
Why would 2 random dudes even care if another random dude is shooting out in the woods? Most hunters wouldn't be running off towards another guy's gun shots
I think it got there attention because it sounded like a pistol shot and not a rifle. They might have thought a fellow hunter was in trouble. It could of been a hunter who had to fire a pistol at a bear.
Almost like a premonition to what just happened to former Japanese PM Abe Shinzo, who was shot dead by a 3D printed polymer double barrel shotgun. RIP, Mr Abe 🥺
True, I was thinking about the same thing which brought me to this channel. I have no idea if the suspect guy watched this movie and was inspired but what was depicted in this movie was surely realistic. My imagination flew if the suspect was working to build a handmade weapon like this scene. Added to this, he was even practicing to shoot the target which led us to witness the tragic moment, and I still feel that security could have prevented this incident.
The gun that was used to kill Abe was not 3d printed plastic. It was made from common hardware store items. Steel pipe, wood, and duct tape. And the bullets were ball bearings.
@andrionwaser6772 maybe in the future but as of now the explosion is so powerful that it would blow up anything weaker than strong metal. Would be like a mini grenade in your hand. You might be able to get away with an underpowered .22. Then you would have to rely on pinpoint accuracy because the damage from a .22 is so minimal compared to 380/9mm and above. But I won't pretend to know for sure. Even the guys who 3D print Glocks and shoot them use metal barrels and internals because plastic just can't hold up.
This has always been one of my favorite villains for one simple reason. Hes complex. Genuinely complex, not the sorry excuse for complexity we see in a lot of other villains. He clearly hates the government for what it did to him, and he holds no value over human life at all. And yet he considers a secret service agent his best friend and he loves animals
i saw this movie tonight on TV and they CUT the first minute of this scene (showing him making the composite gun) - did they delete it for time? It lessens the next scene's impact.

I agree 48fps (or 50/60fps0 never looks right, (and yes, I did convert it myself) but for short clips it's a nice look into the past - almost like you were standing behind the camera during filming. Now, I would tend to agree, I'm guessing from the size of the rounds that they are either 9x18mm, a 9mm x19, a 45acp or a 380 acp. And yes, it would destroy a composite build of plastic such as the one he has. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
