The social satire in films like Demolition Man and Robocop is as prophetic as it is legendary.
In a way, yes. On the other hand: it is kind of sad there are people in high places that would actually want this kind of world unironically. And even worse that among them are people that actually believe that is for the best rather than it being a good way to extend control.
demolition man is a sad commentary on the real tyranny of communist states such as russian/ soviet union and china in which people have no self expression or individuality. that is why the price for freedom is constant vigilance. we must always be on guard. because villains who twirl their mustasches are easy to spot. but those who cloth their evil in good deeds are harder to spot.

I feel a lot of that was because of how Snipes portrayed Phoenix as "evil with standards". He was nuts by normal metrics, sure, but he wasn't an unhinged maniac. If you weren't a direct threat, he generally left people alone unless he was trying to make a point. That's not to say he wouldn't just kill you, but he tended to not be indiscriminate. He also HATED Cacteau (can't spell his name) for how he was a lying hypocritical manipulator. Phoenix was open about who he was, which is why it's shown (at least in my opinion) that he doesn't have anything against John Spartan personally other than they're two opposite forces working against one another.
