    You've convinced me, but to make a case, you'll need several replays like this I think. I'd love to see more

      Just search in youtube "starcraft2 map hackers" there are several, several videos, on blatant map hackers, not only vision, but macro/micro hacks. 12k apm. 12 fucking k apm.

    A good defense is to make three BC's and let him spent a ton of minerals on turrets in his main, then double back on bio/tanks.

    I was playing against some guy named EVO and noticed some 'weirdness' in the replay. In one instance he hoovers over where my units are before a push, mind you in the replay all he 'sees' is the fog of war. In two other instances EVO attacks while my main army is on opposite sides, mind you he did not use scanner sweep to scope out where my army was.

    Sucks that there are people ruining the game with maphacks, but aside from those Ive never seen really any other hacks used in this game. No godmode units, no unit with speed hacks,infinite resource/supply cap hacks. So I guess in that sense we are lucky compared to other games that have been around for as long as SC2 has. Just wish there was a way to prevent this type of stuff from ruining the ladder.
    I wish rather than banning people Blizzard would secretly take hack reports and then just start pairing map hackers with other reported hackers, and they would just continue to play against each other, all while being too damn stupid to realize it

    • @shroomer3867

      There are split hacks though, they split units for you when for example banelings or disruptors move in.

    • @chrisgriffith1573
      @chrisgriffith1573 3 года назад

      I'd rather they get banned outright. Team leagues would still be impossible to manage.

    • @zimizi
      @zimizi 3 года назад +1

      the game is run on a server, there is only so much you can do clientside. i believe that its not possible to have godmode etc also those hacks would probably more easy to detect for warden

    i can imagine a teenager using a maphack for a few days, or to prank a friend. But to reach 5.8K mmr, even with map hacks, it must take some time, so what is the point of spending weeks doing this? it is clear that he won't gain ainything moneywise, since in a tournament it would get spotted, and progamers would win anyway, so what is there to gain here? He is not even trolling the opponent in chat, how is this fun?
    perhaps he sells the account after some point?

    • @Shmandalf

      Probably so he can brag about his mmr.

  • @Inbal_Feuchtwanger
    @Inbal_Feuchtwanger 4 года назад +4

    I just dont get it. You know that you cheat so you cannot even feel good about beating anyone or any of the plays that you make. Your MMR is meaningless because you had to cheat to get it. Cheating doesnt just ruin it for your opponent, it ruins the game for yourself. How does he even enjoy this? There has to be some kind of cognitive dissidence where you can convince yourself that you accomplished something by doing this.

    • @Araghos
      @Araghos 4 года назад +3

      Same reason people smurf in pretty much any game with a competitive ladder: They get off on ruining your experience and the "fun" of frustrating other players and see them loose. The comments Khodi made in chat are probably part of what people like this look for. They wanna get under your skin.

    • @Doeff8
      @Doeff8 4 года назад +1

      Cognitive dissonance, but, yes. That's it.

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx
      @xxxxSylphxxxx Год назад

      @@Araghos I don't think so... I think maphackers are just people that get FAR too attached to their rank/league/MMR. They become so obsessed with the 'clout' that they feel comes with being diamond or master or GM, that the focus on only that, and nothing else.
      The same basic problem plagues tons of players to become frustrated with certain strategies or reasons for losses.
      It's the same reason (just to a greater extent) that many players are happy when an enemy quits immediately - even though that just means wasted time and more lost games in future. At least this is my feeling, having spoken to a few.

    So maphacks are still a thing? I wonder why Blizzard made that possible in the first place. There is no need for a client to receive data that isn't even shown...

    • @HrHaakon
      @HrHaakon 3 года назад +1

      For replays. They send commands, and then the client shows it. It makes a lot of things very simple to implement.

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx
      @xxxxSylphxxxx Год назад

      If maphacks were made impossible, that would mean that each computer would have to only know what their own units are doing...
      That, in turn, paves the way for WAY worse hacks than maphacks - if your computer doesn't know what I have until it visually sees 'X' map location, then my computer can just say 'SURPRISE!!! I have 30 battlecruisers there!'
      So you run away from my 30 battlecruisers, and go around into my base... 'SURPRISE, I somehow destroyed my 30 battlecruisers, and built 20 thors and 50 SCVs while you were moving!'
      So you back out of my base... 'Surprise! I killed all the thors, built 30 liberators and 20 tanks, and attacked your base with them all in the 10 seconds since you left my thors alone!'
      Basically, there's no way for your computer to detect whether the other player is cheating, unless your computer has been keeping track of what they're doing all game.
      In fact, forcing each computer to 'sync' to a "real", mutual simulation like this is exactly why this maphacker lost that final engagement in this very video.
      (It's also miles easier to program the game the way it currently is - I'm just mentioning why it would be even worse if it were designed differently.
      At the end of the day a client/server model with cheat elimination would be "ideal", but it would be require SO much more processing, you'd be looking at starcraft featuring subscriptions and the kind of latency that you can expect playing WoW. ie. both unplayable and expensive. With that in mind, a reporting system is the most sensible option - it's just that reports need to be acted upon appropriately. Crowdsourcing might work, but has its own problems. At the moment though, maphacking is definitely one of the 'least' of the evils, likely having the very least overall impact on honest players. )

    Years ago when i played warcraft 3 RoC and TFT i used maphack and i quit...the reason is simple it seriously will make you worse playing RTS games..you spend more time trying to counter and looking at what your opponent does it really fucks your gameplay up..i went from losing games in wc3 using maphack to getting rid of it and becoming an awesome player...but take it from someone who knows it makes you worse and this video demonstrated that perfectly..he was sitting there sending half his army to go and kill 1-2 units since it was easy and stiming into the army before seeing it which would cause your units to need it much sooner again before your opponent and end up hurting you more since you did it a second or two earlier...so ya for people not too good at RTS games i could understand hating maphackers but just know they wont get better because it will seriously hurt your game play..

    • @xxxxSylphxxxx

      There's a lot of truth in this. I tried out a maphack back when the warcraft 3 (TF?) beta closed, and hacked servers popped up to allow us to play it still while we waited for release. (At the time there was a bug that allowed any hero to get 99 on all stats by shift-clicking books, so the games were getting regularly ruined even without hacks)
      I quickly learned that I wasn't getting better AT ALL.
      That being said, it *does* make a great player even better, even if it 'freezes' their skill progression in the long term. As such, I think there's a real danger when already-great players install maphacks to push from master to GM, or GM to pro.
      Luckily, at that kind of level, getting caught is enough of a deterrent!
      For more casual players - I totally agree. Maphacks will stop users from getting any better.
