Most singers sing immediately, but Aretha plays an instrumental as the introduction. Her mastery as a musician, sets her apart from others. Long live her legacy!
The eleven individuals who dislike this video have to be either deaf, blind, or stupid. This is pure SOUL and SPIRIT. The Queen of Soul music will never become some archaic relic, but will live on forever. Generations will embrace the wonderful gift of the Queen! I will forever love Aretha! Aretha belongs to the ages.
Hi Benny: I can't put it anymore right than what you have written - Aretha is one of the most incredible singers I have ever heard. Since 1965/6 when I first realised her she has constantly soothed me through her voice as well as got me dancing on the faster songs. I feel absolutely so lucky to have been born and grown up with her music and voice.. Her gift is beyond belief...just superlative.
@@davidholiday4494 Thank you! I was not fortunate to be born during 60’s or 70’s to hear the hits as they were being made. However, I grew to appreciate her artistry in the 90’s and 00’s. Being an 80’s baby I can’t tell you at what point I started to love her and her music, but I can tell you it was like love at first sight. From the moment I first heard her music I was sold. Her music influenced generations and a movement. Recently it was discovered that the FBI had her under surveillance. Which further proves the power and influence of her music infused with soul. I have a space in my home with memorabilia.
Defo aretha at piano ......as well as the most amazing singer ever she is an amazing keyboard player....trust me we won't hear or see anyone like her for generations ...we lucky
even though some may not like her style, her voice is musically accurate. her phrasing is very colorful and pitch and tone are spot on. only an educated and dedicated music/singer can acheive this.
soulful, so much soul, blues and so much colour in this, brings everything up, I mean I have listened to other versions of this song, choirs, individuals but no one and I mean NO ONE can ever make this song as good as Aretha "the queen" Franklin does. Such an amazing singer and control she has over her voice. Never false always true. Thank you miss Aretha Franklin
what is amazing is every time I hear a live version of aretha and this song she does something new and unexpected and turns the song upside down and inside out....love it...and then there's the piano playing.
Aretha fingers are magical on those keys. A little child learning how to play by ear is phenomenal and her singing is so soulful Just toches you deep down in your soul 😢 Aretha Franklin will always be the queen of soul RIP Queen Aretha ✝️🌹 You will never be forgotten
Butchered? Are you crazy? When she covered the song, she interpreted it. That's what singers do. Otherwise they are simply karaoke performers. Here's a tip: Try enjoying the performing art, rather than becoming a lay performing technician.
Oh my....how sweet this sounds..."Simply Beautiful". The "Queen" was just simply a gifted woman; whom "GOD" had gifted and shared her with/to this world. What a mark/memories she has lefted to this world, that shall be here for the unending time!😘👏👏💖🌟💖🌟💖💯
But you know, even those who may not like her style, they HAVE to give her her due in her gift and the anointing FOR it! I have not heard anyone accurately and/or justly criticize her or be ABLE to even in such! The woman IS a PHENOMENON and has proved and settled it Long ago! And still continues to BE even thru all of her oppositions, and other setbacks and roadblocks, and attacks and comparissons, etc. QUEEN...Aretha "IS"!
Gifted in her own right, Aretha Franklin stated, "as a little girl at 4 and 5, I stood at the piano and watched my mentors, Clara Ward and James Cleveland." Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum who visited her father often played when they visited and also influenced her. In her 40's, she went to JuJulliarid because of her love for Classical music, which her sister, Erma sang around the house. She learned to read music, not sure if it was at Julliaird Aside from Rev. C. L. Franklin, Clara Ward was her greatest influence - the furs, the moans, the runs and the dancing.
This is the difference between being talented and gifted. Aretha's gift is from heaven down. What Aretha gave to the world musically had to come from above and within. You don't get this from copying others. This is why i wish they would stop comparing these average female singers in today's music to her. They are far from this level of singing.
My number one favorite Aretha Track. I miss her so much. May our Queen rest in peace. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world throughout the decades.
every time she hits that B flat I cry. I know that this isn't a gospel peace. But I can't help to think of how Jesus carries us when the world beats us down. Thanks auntie Ree.
Kevin my understanding is that she was one of those that had perfect pitch recall, and could align notes with the sounds she hear. Is that perfect pitch? I dunno. But she was classified as a child prodigy, and did not take playing lessons early on.
Loistene Rattler In fact it was said that her mother was a natural piano player who played by ear as did Our Queen Aretha. It was also said that she was one of th3 greatest gospel singers ever heard.
Razorface, that dude leaning over Aretha Franklin is her producer, Jerry Wexler. He is the gentleman who took her to Muscle Shoals, Alabama and turned her loose on the piano. The piano is a part of gospel anointing. She spent five plus years at Columbia Records under John Hammond who molded her after Billie Holiday. Her jazz, pop, show tunes, tin pan alley and Broadway standards were the precursor s of what was to come. Please research the Queen, before commenting, you're missing a lot. Thank goodness, the dude in the picture knew the real thing and knew what to do with it. She was the Queen for 50 years!
@jonahmoses: You're right.....her phrasing is incredible. She is a rare find to say the least and i hear some of the younger generation try to compare people with much less talent to her.
Does anybody else find humor in the opera singing one of Aretha's backup singer get's to using? she uses? I have been tickled by her since 1991 when I heard 'Aint No Way" by Aretha Franklin. She is really getting it in with her opera singing on that song.
@tirayi I believe that's Aretha herself playing the hell out of those keys! I noticed every time she does perform the song she is sitting at the piano. :)
It has been noted by/from people that knew Aretha's mother Barbara, that Barbara Siggers - Franklin was Mahalia Jackson's favorite singer and that Barbara's voice was superior to Aretha's voice! Can you just imagine that???
good God not only is SHE killing it here vocally and on the keys, but the rest of the band... who was that on guitar? Sounds almost like Cornell Dupree? And is that bass and drums? Imagine being a part of that session... Some stuff is just almost unimaginable!
Wheeeeeew 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥dayuuuuuuuum. I've heard her sing this live a few times. She BODIED that piano and vocals...........smh. I feel it

Luz Figueroa: When you're down i. trouble she's saying she'll be there to help you cross over and lay herself down for you to cross over to peace just like a bridge.
Aretha’s vocal is fantastic. I don’t think the accompaniment does her any favours, though. Bass and drums - meh - and the piano is not wonderful either, even if it is Aretha playing. Check out the accompaniment to Jakob Lusk’s version.
i am Anthony Russell and i just Love Love Love Aretha Franklin the greatest singer to me.
Most singers sing immediately, but Aretha plays an instrumental as the introduction. Her mastery as a musician, sets her apart from others. Long live her legacy!
Aretha can undeniably sing, but LORD she can PLAY HER FACE OFF!!!
I love Aretha Franklin singing Bridge over trouble water, I've heard every version. Nobody can sing this song like the queen.

Heaven sent. What a voice! Nothing compares to Aretha.
Man, she is leanin' on the piano getting all of the soul out of it.
She's playing that dag gone piano. Genius! Singing and playing is extremely difficult to do and she does it in a way that appears effortlessly.
Yessssss Ms. Aretha Franklin made that piano sing. Got me tears. Prayers going up 🙏🏾 #Queen of soul
Rest in Peace Queen. Never will be another
This could have been all instrumental and it would still qualify as the best version!.. So much LOVE for this woman!!!
Yeaaaaaa it is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT
EVEN NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
SAID HER MUSICAL ABILITIES QUALIFY AS GENIUS 😀😀
Agreed but I disagree. Aretha’s voice ain’t nothing to play with 🙏🏽🤍🌿✨

And only a person who truly has an ear for musicianship can pick up that fact about another artist.
And all of this while playing piano
You're right taste is personal, but Aretha knocked it out of the park any time she performed. On piano too
😢This song
Only the queen can sing this
She can make those keys sing
RIP our queen Aretha Franklin 🌹✝️
The BEST version of this song the moment she got a hold to it...hands down. #ForeverTheQueenOfSoul The Greatest Voice Of All Time.

Aretha on the piano. Fine fine version. Long live the Queen of Soul. Sounds like Erma and Caroline (Franklin) background vocals.

Aretha fingers are magical on those keys.

There is a reason she is the Queen!!!! I love it.
Butchered? Are you crazy? When she covered the song, she interpreted it. That's what singers do. Otherwise they are simply karaoke performers. Here's a tip: Try enjoying the performing art, rather than becoming a lay performing technician.
@jessesam You really think so??
best version without questions!

The Queen herself. Play Aretha!!!
The Queen !!!!!!
She was our queen and spirit of Detroit, love you and miss you.

Word......Aretha effed the game up, period.
no other then Aretha Franklin playing the piano Antonio !

Rosemary Swan Her sister Carolyn could read music before Aretha could.
RARE ARETHA LIVE Bridge Over Troubled Water is super! Keep it up guys.
She's peerless!
She can sing to me anytime. My girl.
Me to brother!!!

Now, you explained it, proclaimed it, told the absolute truth about it, concisely, precisely and succinctly. That's IT!!!!!!!!
YES! Especially Ariana Grande'!
My number one favorite Aretha Track. I miss her so much. May our Queen rest in peace. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world throughout the decades.
Back Foot (Jamaican expression of something that's beyond words)
Her playing...The intro, whew touch my soul!!! OMGOODNESS!!!
........ Sigh 😔. When I first heard this I had to start it over a few times. You said it right. It touched my soul just as she intended it to do.
Boy, there's a lot of troubled bridges over my life!
Rest In Peace Aretha. There will never be another like you. #QueenOfSoul #GoneButNeverEverforgotten
Diva.

oh sure, it's a gospel piece, imo.
At what point is she hitting the B flat? Give the time.

Bless you!
Philly stand up. Ya girl showed up and showed out in 1972.
There will only be one “Queen of Soul”.
James Cleveland who is no longer with us. taught Aretha How to play the piano when she was a small little girl!
Kevin Mansell and u can hear brother James all thru her playing. I love it.
Kevin my understanding is that she was one of those that had perfect pitch recall, and could align notes with the sounds she hear. Is that perfect pitch? I dunno. But she was classified as a child prodigy, and did not take playing lessons early on.
Foster Mac She was and her first teacher was too basic for her, the woman couldn't teach her. It's been said there mother was a hell of a singer too.
Kevin Mansell Her mother taught music.
Loistene Rattler In fact it was said that her mother was a natural piano player who played by ear as did Our Queen Aretha. It was also said that she was one of th3 greatest gospel singers ever heard.

I always say that Columbia was her university training! Cecil went to Morehouse, Erma went to Clark College and Aretha went to Columbia.
Where's the Grammy version ......the best I've heard so far please upload .... I'm lost without it ......I wanna hear her wail .....lay me down .....
Incredible talent.
sounds like Aretha tinkling the piano keys, too. this song gets you right ♥ here...
Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing💕🌷💖
sent from GOD
She could sing anything and give it soul.
Ms. Franklin laid me out with this song!
Complimenti ha chi ha questo storico reperto unica amata regina del soul ❤❤❤
it was actually Aretha Franklin herself playing the piano
This song will be played at my funeral
wow. speechless.

Whoa. Enough said...
i liked it and i like Whitney and CeCe's version!
Aretha did the paino solo on the original version she did.
And just like that, I'm back at my little, small town home church... if just for a few minutes.
Play it REEEEEEEEEE
@tirayi, whoever it was, they tore the keys to shreds!

I really wish it was. Aretha Franklin in her prime was something else.
who is on the piano?
Aretha
What does that song means?
Luz Figueroa: When you're down i. trouble she's saying she'll be there to help you cross over and lay herself down for you to cross over to peace just like a bridge.
Is that Allen Ginsberg leaning over the Queen??
Jerry Wexler
Change the picture. No one needs to see a white man standing over her like an overseer. That is the Queen of Soul.
Aretha’s vocal is fantastic. I don’t think the accompaniment does her any favours, though. Bass and drums - meh - and the piano is not wonderful either, even if it is Aretha playing. Check out the accompaniment to Jakob Lusk’s version.
she is a good looking woman in my opinion but i do not like her style of singing without the vocals this would be a very good version
Get your bloody ears checked out
