- You may remember Manon custom painting her old track bike a few months ago! We had plenty of comments saying the bike was too good looking to go back into storage, so Manon's built it up so she can ride it around town and show off her painting skills!

What do you think of Manon's custom painted track bike now it's built up?
I would like to see GCN presenters use skid actually haha rather than brakes
I would add a hand brake (without the lever) to the side without one
@@melihsaruhan2462 what for?
@@v1ncen715 to support the other hand
Some red sugino 75 would be cool but pls no boring black. This silver dura ace are a nice contrast and the bike looks super nice- i like it...
"Using spare parts lying around GCN HQ"
Me: Here comes a SRAM e tap build
I mean, if any place in the world has those parts second hand (PR), seems like GCN would be it.
My bike mechanic like rebuilding everything retro and tends to use flat pedals on everything. The last time I went to see him, I fished a set of speedplay pedals out of his free box. Decent condition, too.
😂
They probably even have a 2021 DuraAce wireless groupset laying around they can't tell us about yet...👍
I think I'd have put a dummy lever on the right hand side, just so that on the tops my hands would be in the same position
100%
That assimmetrical grip would annoy me as well
either that or just a brake lever on the tops.
Ride brakeless and live on the edge of life.
A rear brake would also just drag and drift when in an emergency. About as much stopping power as a fixie with no front brake.
Then again, that's way better than some bike back in the day that only had rear drum brakes.
"Relatively cheap build"
*puts on Dura Ace crank*
those things run $200+ for a used set. The crankarms I mean. The chainring is another $60 used. I gasped when I saw them. I guess the meaning of 'cheap' changed over time...
@@hermanmcpootis5425 1:25 she said it was an old crank she already owned. So in some ways, they're free. So it's actually cheap
When she suggested she wanted to paint it I almost freaked out
@@hermanmcpootis5425 Who cares how much it costs? If you already have it in your garage, it doesn't cost you anything.
Who has ever built a bike from old stuff, knows what I'm takling about. These are sometimes crazy mix of parts.
i recall this same crankset was used by Ollie on a fixie conversion - loaned from Manon... so she wasn't lying...
52-15 for city riding herm...
It does seem crazy high for city riding, but based on their previous "commuting" videos, it seems that they have long commutes to the city from smaller towns via country roads.
This. I mean, she probably does have the power to pull that off, but the "city" isn't that big and the hills must not be too mad for her to even consider that. I ride a 46-15 and it's as big as I can go to get up the ramp from the parking garage at the office.
That gear seemed way to high to me, but each to their own 😀👍
.....
thats around 40km/h with 90 rpm... waaaaay too high for commuting
52-15, half link chain with horizontal dropouts, 1 lever, no front brake, no footstraps...
Just few changes and it'd be a very nice bike!
and she still gets dura aces
Few changes and it'd be legal to ride on her commute.
@@ludwigvanbennett3198 among my "old" bike parts stash is a Giant TCR T-Mobile frame from the mid 2000s. I'd turn it into a commuter bike one day.
That ratio is knee-crusher!
That’s quite the gear ratio for commuting lol, I’m thinking of building a fixie for college and am planning on 44/17
52-15... she really just had to flex on us like that
Cries in 46-17
Right.I'm 72 and still ride my bike every day. When I was 25 and racing in Texas, 15/ 52 was pretty much my choice for pounding out miles on a flat or descending path at around 23-24mph. For riding around town now (I remind you, I'm 72) I have 14-24 and 26-40, which is just fine for around town. Also, note that I switched out the stock 18 sprocket on my two vintage Raleigh Sports (for rain and snow) with a 23, and I'm still overgeared if I want to go up a hill. On the other hand, when my wife and I did a bike trip from Le Havre to Florence and back in 1975/76, we climbed the Passo del Bracco on 24-42 and 26-42 with 35 pounds of gear. Youth. Believe me: don't take it for granted and enjoy it while you can.
@@Philobiblion Respect for still keeping them cranks turning!
Cries in 44-16
The classic “found an old crankset...” a pristine dura ace track crankset hahaha
We need daily insta stories of Manon riding this bike as a commuter lol
Always happy to see some fixed gear content.
Clean paint job, clean build. Congrats Manon. 🚴♀️
I wish I had stuff like that just laying around. Nice build, bold colours. I like it.
Tune makes such beautiful stuff, I love their bottlecages so much!
The tubes of the frame look absolutely rad. Love the shape of them.
Absolutely gorgeous! Love the build :D
Riding to work? Carmarthen to Bath on a single-speed? That sounds like a GCN video to look out for!
I would probably have preferred to have a flat bar brake lever instead of the single hood but beautiful bike!
Agree.
One brake hood just looks wrong.
True. Or put a dummy lever on the other side just for looks.
Awww there's only one hood?
@@jaredknapp6832 i grant you permission to check for yourself
True
Great looking bike! A really inspiring project. Would really like to try it myself some day
Manon, I can’t believe there isn’t a gold chain somewhere at GCN HQ.
A neochrome chain more match the bike.... Like KMC Z510HX SINGLE SPEED CHAIN
But this was a cheap build, she said...
I can. She has probably worn them all out already.
That paint is really magnificent. Sometimes it's in shade of purple. Sometimes in green. Really beautiful
cant be any greater Joy than what your are doing ...awesome job and video (s)
That bike is doper then anything ! Great job !!!!
That Midnight Purple paint looks amazing.
First thing I'd change is a new (2nd hand) fork with break mounts :P
I love this bike, this is gorgeous!!!
Great stuff....and you make it look so easy!
A bit off-topic, but I'd love to see more GCN contents featuring Manon. She's an extraordinary presenter.
Nice one. Thanks to Manon and GCN I did the same thing, and now have a glorious colour flip single speed bike, with expensive components. Damnit, that's where all my money went!
Looks lovely though, hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine.
Bike looks fantastic. A fun video to watch
Thnk you for making. And giving some neat ideas. Enjoy your new ride
Good work Manon. Good bike building skils, Love it but would love to see you back on that bike on a velodrome!!
What a beautiful crankset 😍
Beautiful build. Enjoy it ✌️
OMG, sweet - great work you just did a great job, such a nice lady!!!
Cheers from NYC
Really cool colour👍Turned out great👏
Awesome colour!!
I think that the seat post looks great the way it is 💕
Great job, sweet paint job!!!
Yeees!! Have been waiting for this for ages :D this colour is just delicious! Be proud of yourself Manon :)
The stem and dura aces are so nice!!
Glad to see this back,Manon. I was wondering what happened to this project. Nice job!
Please for love of all that is track don’t even think about sanding down and spray painting dura ace cranks
Right. Next project, DIY powdercoating in a color that goes with the scheme. That'll do the seat post, stem, brake lever, and crank all in a theme that really makes it look like it was intentional. I'd say Prismatic Powder Monaco Copper. I'm guessing Manon and her rally car dad are just itching to go pick up a second hand junk oven and try their hand at powdercoating.
@@karlaldinger3017 I wouldn't touch those cranks. Lovely as they are imo. Put any extra money into functional mods, flat bar, front brake. The bike is a beauty 👌🔥
Agree. They're perfect.
They need unicorn anodizing for sure!
Been waiting for this eversince the awesome paint job video.
It looks fantastic.
Wow, it looks fantastic!
Great job Manon , looks nice.😃👍
Beautiful.
Yay! That frame is so pretty!
Not dealing with gears significantly eased the complications of that build, but the frame looks pretty af. I actually like the contrast of the cranks and chain to the tone of the bike.
Beautiful bike 😍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This bike looks amazing. I also like the white shoes...great video.
This gave me an idea for my build thanks GCN/Manon
Great build Manon! Fantastic bike! Maybe black cranks with a red line to match the stem and tyres? And obviously your seat post, again painted either with the same colour as the frame or you could consider adding another touch of black and red? As long as you match the red with that of the very cool GCN stem! 😉 In any case thanks for another really nice video! 😊
Beautiful Manon and the bikes not bad either!
Looks super cool, love the welsh dragon on it.
Great build!
Very pretty bike and great job!!!
Sick build ❤️❤️❤️
Manon is definitely flexing her 'best sprinter' 'track guru' status at GCN with that drivetrain - 53-14? I'll keep my 42 chainrings thanks very much! Also, what a beautiful build
Love your bike !! Your paint job couldn’t have come out any better !! Nice to see the build & great test ride .. I’m working on a single speed conversion as well so great inspiration but please leave on some shiny parts 🙏🏽 .. take care & please keep us updated on any changes or epic rides !!
I love the word snazzy 🤩
Also love the bike 👌🏻⭐️
Awesome bike & Awesome Girl!!!
I am From Malawi🇲🇼
These Videos ARE satisfying to watch
Quite serious Manon, while building up... looks great, also great use of existing parts
That frame color is awesome! 😍 Purple, blue, green, ... I love the single hood minimalist function over form! Does it feel funny? I spend time on the hoods, so I’d probably opt for a second lever. Throw some extra red, perhaps crank arms or pedals 🤔, to carry on the red stem. Maybe anodize the existing crank arms. Do a collaboration with Doctor B, have him break down the science of anodizing.
All I have to say is: That bike is so cool!! Good job Manon
Sweet ride👍
I have them hubs, amazing for how cheap they are, had to regrease the bearings after about 6months, being a skateboarder I’ve been cleaning bearings since I can remember
I love it gonna try it in the future 🚴🏿❤️
Real nice painitng and technical skills but I am more impressed by the strenght of your legs that you are able to ride with this gargantuic front crankset. :D
Powerful!
With that choice of intro music I expected Manon to talk to us about Warframe!
Fantastic bike, it's beautiful!
I remember the paint video, I watch it yesterday 😁!
Great looking bike, enjoy.
It's really Great looking bike
Juicy build 😍
Chapeau Manon! Bike vault worthy!
This is awesome Manon!
Looks nice Manon. Good job.👍
Nice build. 👍
God damn cant miss a GCN video
Looks really good!!!
Nice looking bike!
Very nice ❤️
I love it so much
It looks awesome :)
That bike is so cool! I would love to build one like that but wouldn’t know where to start 🤷♂️
I thought front and rear wheels both needed independent braking systems one of which could be a fixed gear for the rear. In which case this bike would be illegal to ride on UK roads.
Keep your hair on Karen 🤣
Sure your right
Your right
Well if you want to be technical the law only states a bike has to have 2 brakes, it doesn't specify 1 per wheel, so you could get away with having fixed gear with a brake on the back wheel 🤷♂️
This is how Cycling UK sums up the law on brakes:
‘It is clear that a fixed wheel counts as a braking system operating on that wheel, so a fixed wheel bike with a front brake is legal (assuming both brakes are efficient!), but a fixed wheel bike with merely a rear brake isn't, as there's no independent front wheel brake. ‘
So that bike isn’t legal to ride on UK roads.
It looks great
Love from Alaska. Love, Dennis.
It is clear that a fixed wheel counts as a braking system operating on that wheel, so a fixed wheel bike with a front brake is legal (assuming both brakes are efficient!), but a fixed wheel bike with merely a rear brake isn't, as there's no independent front wheel brake.
Would probs need a new fork to sort that? I saw the front fork had a Aluminium steerer so maybe the existing fork bridge can be drilled, can pop into Argos frame builders next time she is at GCN HQ...👍
Alex knows a guy that'll mount a disc!
I understand that a lot of people don’t follow the law but GNC needs to have some responsibility to show their are doing things correctly.
@@phil4263 Agree. A channel like GCN should not be showing a build that is not legal in the country in which it is to be ridden.
UK law requires two braking methods, so fixed gear and 1x brake is sufficient, regardless of front or back. (Though I agree a front brake is much more useful if only going for one).
Lodi.. 😍😍😍 I also build my own RB.. Super satisfying 👌
Love the color..
Very cool bike
The rear brake seems very pointless, but I'd definitely add some foot retention.
Gotta be street legal to ride it on the road in the UK, showing off your brake-less skills in a GCN video on the open roads is just asking for trouble.
@@arvidfahlander5364 I think they’re saying it would make sense to put a front brake on not a rear, cause ya know it’s like having two rear brakes which is kinda redundant. And yes foot retention is always a good idea especially on a fixed gear
Edit: she did say there is no brake mount on the fork which explains the rear brake instead of front
Bad Ass Manon!!! Love the colour and the build hat!! Despite some of the fun police comments, I'm sure you are more than capable, from your experience racing a track bike, to handle a single brake.
"Cheap build" with a DA crank and Tune stem that just happened to be lying around
It's cheap when someone else is paying...
That DA crank is probably off one of her old track bikes, and is far from a recent DA set.
First time ever I have the desire for a fixie!
EXCELLENT JOB WELL DONE 👏 ✔ 👍
Love the bar with 1 gun!
SUPER NICE
Super Nice!!! 👍
Manon: "I have an old crankset"
Dura-Ace crankset: Am I a joke to you?
I love this episode!! Finally some more fixed gear content.
Manon: "I have a 53 in the front and a 15 in the rear making about 90 gear inches." every other gcn presenter: squirms as she rides it at the end of the video.
