Catch Fish from Cardigan Bay: BORTH - YNYSLAS

  • Another in the series of sea fishing in Cardigan Bay, Wales (UK).
    This video covers two short sessions in April (filmed on 05.04.23 and 06.04.23), fishing at Ynyslas (Borth) over high tide and in to the ebb. Apparently the venue fishes better over low water, but I couldn't time these sessions to coincide with that state of the tide. My initial intention was to try and catch small-eyed rays and turbot; but I ended up targeting and catching bass. Techniques and rigs are dealt with, together with venue details.

    Another great video Mick. The rough condition curtail the small eyed fishing, but your perseverance in the rougher conditions paid off for the bass. Like you said local knowledge is handy to have but its not a hard and fast rule. You must be a mare hardy angler than me. Now im in my mid sixties i have to have the comfort of my shelter😂😂

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  Год назад

      Yes - rays tend to prefer it calmer and I think it was too early in the year for them. I've never really got on with brollies and shelters, so mine tend to stay at home nowadays.

    The bass fishing can be truly awesome along Borth beaches ......it pays to visit them before your session ie on low tides so you can see the sunken forest ie snags ......and then sort your mark to fish .......early in year its bass .....but late summer small eyes .......and turbot ......but also there's a chance of a stingray......I fish it with flowing Trace and sand eel....Tracy about 4-5ft ...3/0 -4/0 long shank hooks or pennel ......another trick is don't go for the big chuck .....ie 3or4th breaker .......no more

    Hi Mick ... The venue screams fishing on the flood for maybe 3 hours and less on the ebb ... But three nice sizeable keeper bass on different sessions seem to show this to be the case ... Well done 😊🎉❤ ...

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  Год назад

      Thanks for that. I've been back and it seems to be productive for the first part of the flood and either side of high tide - but then again that might just be the time of year I'm fishing. Locals will know much better than me!

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  Год назад +1

      No - its too much of a slog dragging it on the shingle. It's fine on compacted surfaces; but for Chesil, I think you'll need one of those expensive ones with those big air filled wheels.

    Wessex rig , 6/0 3/0 pennel on the running ledger with big mackerel or squid bait , 3/0 top snood with big lug bait , 20 -30 yards out can be deadly .

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  Год назад

      Yes - probably later in the year though. I tend to find that bass prefer worm baits early in the season, then move on to crab and then fish baits later in the summer and autumn. However; there's always exceptions to this general 'rule of thumb'! Thanks for the suggestion John. Single worm on a size 4 hook seems to get me quite a few - I do lose quite a lot though if I'm filming and get distracted from playing the fish!
