Tom, you are a natural teacher who seamlessly walks the student through each lesson. Thank you for your time, effort, and wisdom.
I practice aikido and we're very often in seiza and I was told that it's like a "stand by" position. Thanks for explaining it, and thanks for all these other very helpful videos.
👏👏👏 as always learn something that never crosses my mind 🙇 thank you
Thank you for sharing that. I've been out of practice for a year due to covid and had a knee injury from kendo just prior to the sports lockdown and I'm finding seiza difficult on my knee and ankle. I've been at Eishin-Ryu sixteen years now and we do have a standing version of the waza, but pride keeps me doing it in seiza. I am very much enjoying your channel during my time away from formal practice.
Thanks very much, (I also refuse to give up the pride.) Glad it's helping you!
I always prefer seiza for kata so this is very much appreciated, thank you. But like so many others I will unfortunately do some unnecessary damage. But it’s traditionally beneficial so I will if I can . Standing is currently better for me if more standing Waza are practiced. BTW the cheat curl vs the preacher curl was a good metaphor. Thank you
Thanks Sensei for your great work on the video. 🙏
Thanks very much
In seiza position I felt it in my quads, so everyday I practiced seiza position holding it for a couple seconds, coming up, seiza again, until I was able to hold it for 1-2minutes.
Dojo feet that’s another seiza killer!!!!
Starting off correctly is the best way to start
I was so confused why the Japanese fight on the floor.
Because during meetings or other individual appointments leaders would kneel for a sign of respect but if someone tried to attack thats why there was iai.
Tom Sensei when it comes to Seiza I have a big gap of space between my heels and my butt. I can't sit on them. I was told that would be a problem in later Iaido Katas but that It can be fixed with steching the legs and feet. Can you advise any exercises to help specifically with Seiza?
Thank You!
Can you make a video about Wakizashi?
Very nice 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👍🏾👏🏾🙏🏾
just had knee surgery a couple months ago. doctor told me i may never get full bend in my knee again. i am not accepting that as an answer. i will keep training and excersicing so i may be able to kneel down again
Just go easy and follow your doctor's orders! Thanks for your dedication in keeping these arts alive!
How about video on dodging an katana attack? this Anime's made me ask this question.
Check out my "Defense in Iaido" video it explains a lot
are you in the usa ?
know what, im actually feeling knee pain in my knee caps area when I sit in seiza and try to meditate..
You can sit in a chair and meditate. Many Folks do this
@@TheBudoAcademy Is it really okay to sit cross legged though?
@@hmuphilly9129 it would depend on your comfort level and if you are able to relax and breathe without restriction. Whatever works for you
the top of my feet always hurt more than my knees when sitting in seiza is there any suggestions on how to reduce the pain ?
It could be just getting used to the pressure, but honestly, it would be tough to assess without you in front of me
would you guys recommend a wooden katana?
And if so do you guys suggest any websites to buy from?
Yes we do. We like Tozando and Ebogu. Thanks for your question!
@@TheBudoAcademy Keep up the great videos, I love them!!
@@victorajolo5395 thanks very much
How do i learn to do Seiza, i am pretty close. Just a small gap
Very slowly, don't over stress your knees. Takes time for some folks
@@TheBudoAcademy okay thanks, abs thanks for the rapid response
