It's hard to fathom that Green Gartside is nearly 67. I was 19 in 1985 when this gem charted. This album is a huge part of the formative soundtrack that is my life. Best times, ever.
He doesn't look like he could be near 60 whatsoever but he doesn't look anything like he did when he first recorded this song. Maybe it's the beard or the darker hair. He looks good; just not recognizable from his younger years.
one of the best pieces of ear candy ever written....man David gamson laid down such beautiful keys on this song back in the day...just so tasteful...I wish he'd tour with Green...maybe when the weather gets better
There was a time there was nothing on my stereo but Scritti and Nik Kershaw. They were teen idolish on the surface- but there was a LOT more going on than most people realised. Isn't it funny how some bands just click? I knew some pretty macho aussie types- Cold Chisel and the Oils all the way- who begrudgingly acquiesced. I remember one guy saying, 'if you must have a camp band in your repertoire- you could do worse than Scritti.' They just got a hold of you- and wouldn't let go. Thanks for posting- and taking me back.
I still hear this song on the radio today and it does not sound dated at all. The live version here is just phenomenal. That album is a masterpiece and I think it's on many "lists" of albums to hear before you die.
Scritti Politti means political Writing ✍️ in case anyone is wondering. Greens voice is as unique as his name. He sounds the same which is amazing after all this time. This song used to be my Jam back in the day. It’s good to see he’s still singing and the music has held up. I still like this song. Thanks! 😊
Thank you for sharing this...Cupid & Psyche '85 was such an influential and important album for me growing up as a teenager, starting out as a Bassist. I hope in some way Green can come back to America with this, we need him and the band badly....Thank you again, peace.
I was the same age in NZ then when I heard his voice first time in a nightclub in 1985 no social media then I was hooked. Now in Sydney AUS late 1985 My son who is close to my age then was just playing this in his room. He has the tape & record albums. My husband has the Cupid & Psyche ‘85 Tee to date ❤🎙️8️⃣5️⃣
I have watched this several times now. Absolutely fantastic and sounds incredible live! Great song generally. Drummer and Keyboardist deserve a gold star!
Scritti Politti Nostaligic man and was born in The United Kingdom started in the 1985 famously known hit Perfect Way and 1988 Provision Boom there she was and he is legendary musician and his music amazes me .
I saw him in chicago years ago, and i got the set list and i took the bottle of water Green was drinking. I had forgotten he told us that he had the flu, and i finished the water. Green gave me the flu.
This sounds great. It’s got just enough pre-tracked elements that sit behind the great live performance to be truthfully live and full. I wondered if Green’s voice would sound a little different without the typical studio double tracking but I don’t notice the difference much. There could be some pre-tracked support vocals too but it doesn’t sound artificial. Certainly not compared to a lot of the mainstream pop acts that don’t sound live to any degree anymore. In other words, great job all. This song is ridiculously good and the arrangement is remarkable.
I always find it cool when men in their 50s and 60s still wear cool tennis shoes. It's really weird to see him with a beard though. I was expecting him to look exactly like he did in 1985.
I never knew who this song was by and i seriously thought it was a one one hit wonder done by a band that was all black no offense, it has a funky, hip hop sound.
Sounds GREAT....but I don't see a lot of actual live playing going on here, have to say. Green is understandably sheepish about striking anything on his guitar as the sounds appear to be 'triggered' somewhere else. This guy on the left MAY be playing those dampened clean guitar notes but I'm not wholly convinced. Also in the instrumental break he appears to join Green playing those big sweeping guitar strikes then goes back to playing the dampened guitar strikes without a change of pedal. What is this?? Top Of The Pops??? After all these years I would've LOVED to see four or five keyboard players working up a sweat playing all the parts with Green singing and consistently playing guitar parts where they come, not just arbitrarily. Still.....it's nice to see it happening in some shape or form nonetheless. It's just a shame that Scritti didn't 'take a risk' and actually play it in some form properly and completely live!!
@@oddities-whatnot Fair enough. As well as being a composer/songwriter I am a writer btw so I like to make a point. Plus I do indeed enjoy these performances like you but I'm also somewhat disappointed by them for the reasons given so I suppose I'm hoping to hear answers from those also technically oriented, not so much the average listener.
@@usernamevince1 Yep. Having loved the album since it came out and sometimes wondering what it would be like hearing the whole lot live one fine day, I see this as a missed opportunity to do something proper or at least creative with it. It sounds like Green and a backing tape (and may as well be!). Ah well.

I was 16. I wore out the album and the extended remixes! Good times. Sounds great still. Go, Green!
Amen to all of the above
I was 15 and I feel the same way. ❤️
Same -- I was 19. That year gave me a lot of the best memories of my life.

His voice hasn't lost any of it's sparkle! Lucky you! Nice upload
Exactly 💯... He sounds good.... 😋

This is one of those songs that I never get tired of.
I listen to it every morning to put a smile on my face!
No. It’s fking gorgeous
Not an easy song to sing live. Kudos.
How could this song NOT have been a hit in the 80's ?? 😀

Cupid & Psyche..and Prefab Sprout's Steve McQueen is pop perfection.

Green has aged like fine wine.
How many band can sound as good live as the studio albums almost 40 years after the fact this is incredible

Pete’s wife here loved this song and had huge crush on him in grade 8 in 1985 so happy I was a teen in 80’s
I have always liked this cool song and Green still sounds great!👍
This song came out when I was in my teen years, and oh boy, Green was sooooooo gorgeous!!! 😍

Love seeing this song performed live in 2021. May it long continue

this song still slaps and is a banger 40ish years later. one of my fave songs. l was only 4yrs old when this song came out on the radio. 💖
Great to hear he still has his voice. This song takes me back! I was 15 when it was first released. Can I go back to 1985? Simpler times for me.
OMG, did I just step out of my time machine? Love it, love it, love it. Well done gents.
What a treasure! Thank you for posting!!
He sounds great!!

I so hope the US will be graced with some live Scritti Politti someday soon. I’d be there, front and center.
I was lucky to see Scritti at the Roxy in LA in 2006 on their first-ever U.S. tour - a sublime evening
Awesome awesome awesome!! GREAT recording!!! I loved this song now just as much as when it first came out! Dude STILL has amazing pipes!

Big fan of Scritti Politti

he sings exactly like Darren Hayes of Savage Garden. Listen to their song "I Want You" to hear the similarity.
It should never ever of been this way.
Bravo 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍🙏😇👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ iloveyuo scrittipolitic bravo

Must have taken you ages to write all that. Personally I just prefer to enjoy the performance.
Agreed. Just sounds like he's singing over an instrumental track. 🤔
