Hi Liam think you need to reconsider Pete's name...no longer E bay if his clubs cost 2k + We should be looking more at practice and technique rather than what a club does ! We're in the new release season and every manufacturer claims to produce longer straighter and more forgiving clubs What is interesting is that Pete persists with Callaway XR 16 fairway woods.....nearly 6 years old Ive got a 4 and 7 XR 16 which I keep on going back to. Similarly vokey sm6s which I wouldnt change. Both OMP and Pete seem to have stuck with their 2 ball putters......if it aint broke ! Suggest you think about mini vlogs......my favourite club and why its stayed in my bag Good luck for 2022
In future it would be interesting to just change one variable, so in this case, use different clubs, but the same type of ball. The way you've done it we aren't sure if it's the clubs, the balls, or a bit of both that are making the difference. Great video though!!
It amazes me the cast of characters you pulled together for your show over the years. It says a lot that you are able to surround yourself with so many strong personalities. Happy New Year - and looking forward to more Golf Mates in 2022!
Really like this-- getting back to your roots Liam. When you started this channel 4 years ago you did this sort of thing a lot; its what got me hooked on GolfMates. Cheers from Texas
Many thanks for the great video. The course record at Whitsand Bay Golf Club in Cornwall is 62,posted by Max Faulkener in 1947.You can just imagine the quality of the clubs & balls back then.
Yep - the V100 balls are horrendous. Actually, up until about 6 months ago (when Slazenger changed them) the V300s were really good value and way softer and nicer to play with, particularly if you are a learner and lose a lot of balls!
As an Amateur the ball is very much the most important part of your equipment, last time I bought the Kirkland balls from Costco they worked out at a bit more than a £1 per ball, unbeatable value in my view.....Happy New Year to all the Golf Mates & stay safe
I believe you play with 1. What you can afford. 2. What your ability allows. Golf is an extremely expensive sport if you want it to be, or equally inexpensive. Ability will make a difference, however, I couldn’t justify paying 1000’s for clubs (I play off 11) when I think money better spent on lessons. The test showed there wasn’t much between the clubs, as Pete said, the shots were down to him, not the equipment. I see players with expensive clubs and not a clue what to do with them. What is it they say? All the gear and no idea. I play with Ping g400 irons, and at £500 I still had to think about it. Give me a set of clubs and some balls and I’m happy.
The M2 seems to be the Driver that holds its money well, many think its the best driver by Taylor Made. iStill have my Bridgestone super whooper driver and Nike forged blade irons, 20+ years old and never felt better using anything made since them. distance and accuracy, they still out perform newer clubs. Ebay is striking the ball well at the moment so perfect time for this test. i truely think a player needs to get to a certain level before clubs start making adifference to their game. the best times i had was between 14 and 9 on my handicap. anything since( play off 8) is all a bit to serious to get my handicap even lower. takes a little fun away i find.
I myself only started playing golf this time last year, and bought the V300 set from sports direct. Irons work amazingly for me, and as a student, the price couldn’t be better. I also enjoy using the hybrid, and have bought another, lower loft Slazenger Hybrid since, all working amazingly
Great video,so is there a case for the first step in the upgrade program.start with a much better ball before changing your clubs.certainly less expensive.
Still using my titleist 710 AP2 irons 5-pw. KBS C-taper lite 110 stiff. 2’ up. 21 degree titleist 909 hybrid. Voodoo stiff. Epic flash sub zero driver. Diamana whiteboard 70g s x5ct Epic flash 3+ wood. Project x 7B3 6.5 tip stiff. Epic flash sub zero 5 wood. Project x 8A4 7.0 tip x-stiff. Callaway jaws wedges 52/56/60. Dynamic gold wedge flex Mizuno Mcraft ll putter 33’ and a Scotty Cameron Newport 1.5 as backup. Vice Pro or Snell MTB black are my balls of choice. Good to see Pete striking the ball well. Great vid guys.
Nice one, Liam. Pete’s pretty much nailed it, as the quality gaps are more pronounced in the woods & putter. And…any golfer will/should easily ‘feel the difference’.
Happy New Year Golf Mates - You can see Pete's improvements since his lessons with Dave, very consistent considering he's a 15 handicapper. The cheap set are what they are, they do a job, but when first getting into the game they are perfectly acceptable, you would just need to get a better ball once you stop losing those cheap ones!
I think you need a professional golfer with consistency to judge different clubs and balls to show any results, not being critical but I think with normal clubs club players wouldn't no the difference until they played at least a couple of rounds
Good piece of advice there Pete, I think I'll take that on-board "just give it a bash" might take the swing thoughts out of my head 👍 You're playing really nicely too, definitely single figures golf.
I think you can play cheap irons and not loose much but you need a good driver , wedges and putter. I play the Wilson Profile XD with senior shafts the driver cracked after 2 years replaced with Mizuno ST190HL Senior shaft I gained 20+ yards added 2 Vokey SM* wedges, and a Tommy Armour Impact putter. Average 29 putts per 18 holes I shot par 72 several times this last year. I think the cheap irons don't penalize you as much as the driver, wedges, and putter. I turn 69 on Sunday January 9. I'm sure better iron might drop a stroke or 2 or give more consistency you can save money with inexpensive irons! Pete is spot on!
Cobra F9 driver, F8 3 wood, Radspeed 5 wood, Ping G25 irons, Cleveland 50/56/60 degree RTX-3 wedges, Taylor Made Ardmore 2 putter, Srixon Z-Star ball. So if I play like crap it's all on me. After watching Pete's improvement we could all use a lesson with Dave. I think Dave teaches golf and one-liners.
I have a set of Nike Sling Shot Irons that I really love! They have a regular steel shaft that is 1.5" longer than standard, 3° Upright and 3° bent stronger....mid size grip! I have a 13.5° 3 wood, a 5 & 7 wood. I saw these new Wilson Staff DUO Soft+ golf balls at Wal-Mart and purchased a dozen for playing in the cooler temperatures! As soon as my orthopedic doctor figures out a treatment plan for my bad back...severe sciatica pain that is making me almost unable to walk, since the pain is in both of my legs...I at least want to go to the putting green at our apartment complex has, and try them out! Liam, I know you have suffered from lower back pain...so I know you will understand!
Great video and fantastic review 👍🏻 see if you can do a video with the drivers against each over but with the same ball. I think there won’t be much in it tbh. Keep the vids coming guys 👍🏻
Cobra driver, 3 , 7 wood and 4 hibrid, 5 to 9 irons are Ping, wedges are Kirkland and putter is Scotty Cameron..all second hand.....think I might do better with the Slazenger at the moment 😀...joking aside I had some Hippo irons before these 5 to SW paid £99 brand new and loved them, used them for 2 years still in the garage. Great video Liam and I totally agree you don't have to pay a lot of money..I use Srixon Z Star balls 🤗❤
Love Ebay Pete, I am currently using Adams Tight Lies irons BUT I have bought a set of TaylorMade Rocketbladez and look forward to playing them this year
You could run the same tests 10 times over with the same player, and the results will swap and change and there wont be any consistency with the data! The reason being, is that (in my opinion) if you are an amateur golfer with a mid to high handicap, the type of make of clubs will not make a slight bit of difference at all to your game. At that level we are just not able to exploit the potential of expensive clubs, so it's simply not worth shelling out for expensive clubs! :)
Loved the equipment review. I play with. Callaway epic speed driver Callaway epic speed max 3 wood Taylormade p790 udi 2 X2hot 4 hybrid Callaway apex 19 irons 5-pw Cleveland RTX4 wedges 50,56,60 Cleveland huntington beach soft putter TP5 x pix ball You guys are awesome keep up the great work all of you.
Great Video as always and I agree with Barnaby'e earlier review. In the summer I play with Cobra Forged irons and use either the Titleist Soft or Callaway Soft golf balls. I naturally play with a low ball flight to get the ball running. However, in the winter to increase carry, I have a cheap set of old copper beryllium irons with increased loft and I use Slazenger V300 Soft golf balls. The ball flight is higher and it increases my enjoyment in the mud, when bombing the greens.😄
Is that the slazenger v300 soft ball or the standard v300? I like a nice ball to hit, I generally use a titleist or a taylormade and tbh I don't really mind the v300 soft in the winter. It's not a pro v1 but it's deff not a topfilght lol
I've got an epic max ls driver, epic speed 3 wood, mavrik pro hybrid, apex pro 2021 irons 4-AW, and Jaws Full Toe Raw Face Chrome wedges in 55 and 60, and a Scotty Cameron Phantom X 12.5 putter
Pete's swing since his lesson looks superb I'm doing a bag overhaul this year (rescue wood to 3 iron, new irons and wedges are getting replaced - the wedges are from when I got a bag so I'm changing them to suit my game better)
Good vlog and the result I was basically expecting. The Slazenger balls are a bit naff but can be ok for warming up in the nets before a game. How long before eBay Pete regularly uses the irons I wonder? Cheers
H ello Liam, just watched video, great content, I play with King Cobra mk 2, their about 15-20 yrs old and I would'nt change them. All the very best for the future.
I love the channel and EBay Pete seems to be a great guy! I play with Cobra driver and irons. Cleveland wedges and Scotty Cameron putter. I mostly use Snell golf balls.
Great review. I have been using a set of slazenger irons I bought off ebay about 4 years ago for £16. They get the ball from A-B eventually but as an amateur player of roughly 18 handicap, I'll play good shots and bad shots whatever I use! Great clubs for an intro player without breaking the bank 💪🏼
Great to see captain Ebay swinging well, The V100 are horrendous however the V300 are a different kettle of fish, quite soft come off the putter well and at £20 for 24 balls cheap as chips great winter ball
I would have liked to see Pete's good club's against the cheap ball.🤔 love seeing these sort of test situations, very interesting to people who can't afford to spend a lot on gear.😍
Great video as always golf mates ! I recently found 2 of the those slazenger balls in the same rough last week and pocketed them, which i rarely do if its not a top of the range ball. On the 18th par 3 at my home course Padeswood and Buckley (its a gem) I struggle to reach the uphill green with my 5 iron as i did that round. So I pulled these 2 balls out of my pocket and hit the green with both of them! Still never going to use them. Keep up the good work and come visit next time in north wales
Nice video, as always with co-presenter Captain Pete…only thing I would say and I’ve seen a few say already, if you truly wanted to go club vs club, you should probably use a premium ball with both sets (or two terrible ones, I guess). That slazenger driver might only be 5 yards behind the taylormade instead of 20 with a good ball, who knows??
As always enjoy any video with EBay who is playing well, especially when you consider it is mid-winter conditions. Agree with Lee's comment below about changing only one variable below. Well done video though by all involved!
I have a right assortment in my bag EXS 220h irons 6+GW MD golf lob wedge and a SBlade putter and I use titleist DT solo balls but use Spalding Control balls in the winter and any finders I pick up. First two round of 2022 83&83 49 points Stablrford playing off 27 a true banditt at the moment
It shows a good golfer can play with any clubs and ball but it does make a difference having decent balls and clubs I've just brought callaway rogues and after a couple of rounds I really like them they are very forgiving and given a couple more rounds I'm sure they will make a big difference to my game
I've got Taylor made m6 irons titliest ts2 driver Wilson 3 & 5 Wood big Bertha 7 wood ping encore putter. I did try the slazenger driver but couldn't get away with the feel
Golf ball does sound horrendous. Always question whether or not to upgrade my clubs. Play with TaylorMade JetSpeed/SpeedBlades Driver, 3Wood, 3H,4H 5i-PW, 50, 55 & 60 w/ Oddysey Putter & Callaway Softball currently 18HCP and improving.
I think it’s more about what you can afford with cheap ones you can still have a game not everybody is as well off as the housewives choice but a good comparison ball makes a bigger difference for me my irons mx 23 ORKA driver only one wedge T zoid I had given too me great video guys 👍👏
Makes sense. I got a cheap starter bag and the irons were fine, blade putter was ok but nothing special. Woods were useless, went gratifyingly far but so hard to hit straight. Shaft had so much twist in it you couldn’t find consistency.
No one ever seems to use the V300 balls in these tests. The V100 Is poor as is the decathlon budget cheap ball. The V300 balls are actually very good and great value. Would love to see someone do a proper test with these.
The Best Cheap Golfball is the Srixon Distance red box.... 15.00 and spins and long.... a little clicky but for the Price ,....The Best!!! I play the Bridgestone Tour B-SX love them
I get wanting to test the Slazenger clubs with the Slazenger ball Liam but if you were wanting to test the Slazenger/cheaper clubs against Pete's own more expensive clubs, then perhaps it would have been better you use the Kirkland ball with both sets of clubs or the Slazenger ball will both.
totally enjoyed the the comparison test as i play with the v100, it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to my golf if i hit a tennis ball instead...
Well done lads and happy new year 🥳. Hopefully next test is the cheap clubs , but with a decent Golf Ball v the more expensive clubs and cheap ball 😝👍🎣
Great video Liam, would be interesting to see Ebay play the Slazenger Irons and his own other clubswith either the Kirkland ball or maybe an Inesis 100 or 500 ball to see the results🤔👍
Pete proved you can get round the golf course with any clubs and enjoy it. When you’re new to the game you won’t know much difference between feel and sound. And what’s the chances you’ll be hitting out the middle every shot? If you play more, maybe spend a bit more. If you don’t play much, only spend what you can afford to have sat in the garage for weeks at a time not being used? 🤷🏻♂️Happy New Year Golf Mates 👍🏻
For someone who is just getting into the game and doesnt want to spend a fortune, maybe the clubs are suitable. They are going to get you well and truly into the game. Mine's a built bag with Taylormade SIM Max Driver, 3W, 5W, 3H all Ventus Blue std shafts, Rapier ERA Y2K carbon std shaft 4-9 iron cavity back ( old but suits me ), Prosimmon 52, 56, 60 wedges stiff steel shafts ( or the Rapier PW and SW which i can swap in or out ), and a crappy blade putter which i will replace when i can afford it. I am able to release many balls back into the wild with them. I seem to get reasonable results, when i can find the fairway, with Kirkland Signatures.
A fair test would have been to use the premium ball with both sets. then you would ld have a real comparison between them. Currently using Cobra, However when Ping pull their finger out will have the Ping 924 I ordered 3 months ago.
I had a cheap catalogue set to start with and struggled to improve. Now I have Callaway mavriks and have knocked 8 shots off my handicap. Cheap clubs for fun no good if you're more serious though. Nice to see ebay hitting the ball so well . Well done Dave Mac.👍👍
Love Ebay, he's a natural co-presenter 😊 I've got a set of Wilson D7 irons and still have my old Wilson Fat shaft irons. I might take them down to the range & compare them now. Great video again lads
Good challenge like others have said use the same ball maybe have a 9 hole match next 1 using the v300 and the other using the inesis 100 decathlon cheap set.
Great video. Couldn’t really hear the difference in the balls. It’s all about the feel and if it feels good to yourself. Once you get a feel and sound you like, you don’t normally change.
Please consider subscribing if you enjoyed the video! 🔥 If you're feeling extra nice, you can share the video to your friends! 😊
Hi Liam think you need to reconsider Pete's name...no longer E bay if his clubs cost 2k +
We should be looking more at practice and technique rather than what a club does !
We're in the new release season and every manufacturer claims to produce longer straighter and more forgiving clubs
What is interesting is that Pete persists with Callaway XR 16 fairway woods.....nearly 6 years old
Ive got a 4 and 7 XR 16 which I keep on going back to. Similarly vokey sm6s which I wouldnt change.
Both OMP and Pete seem to have stuck with their 2 ball putters......if it aint broke !
Suggest you think about mini vlogs......my favourite club and why its stayed in my bag
Good luck for 2022
In future it would be interesting to just change one variable, so in this case, use different clubs, but the same type of ball. The way you've done it we aren't sure if it's the clubs, the balls, or a bit of both that are making the difference. Great video though!!
Good point!
Agree 100% - great video but how much of it was the ball and not the clubs?
I just wrote pretty much the same thing.
I agree - same ball, different clubs 100%
!00% agree. Keep the same ball then the only variable is the clubs, and the golfer of course
eBay Pete really is swinging and playing well. His golf game has definitely improved, well done Pete!
Being a pauper I use very cheap clubs ...I've often wondered how much further I could hook and slice the ball out of bounds with decent clubs!!!!
😃🤣
I have Wilson D200 irons but i have uniflex shafts. Callaway Razr Driver and 3 wood.
Cheers from Texas
cheers pa!
Always enjoy Pete's equipment reviews. Speaks to most of us here in golfmates land.
agreed!
Those slazenger v300 irons are actually pretty decent, nice profile and almost no offset
Many thanks for the great video. The course record at Whitsand Bay Golf Club in Cornwall is 62,posted by Max Faulkener in 1947.You can just imagine the quality of the clubs & balls back then.

Many thanks Pete, it is great to see a genuine ‘proper’ golfer we can relate to rather than the big banging pros that we cannot aspire to be.
Whatever the clubs and ball Pete still hits it really well ! Love the videos guys. Happy New Year from across the pond! 🇨🇦
Same to you!
I believe you play with 1. What you can afford. 2. What your ability allows. Golf is an extremely expensive sport if you want it to be, or equally inexpensive. I play with Ping g400 irons, and at £500 I still had to think about it.
Give me a set of clubs and some balls and I’m happy.
Ģreat video ,interesting how yourself and Pete thought the Slazenger irons play alright but the Driver not so well.

I enjoyed the video but you should have used slazenger v300 soft golf balls as I use them and think they are great.

I believe, for £20/club with a bag aswell, ideal for beginners
I have the Slazenger clubs and can’t hit the driver straight but love the irons. Great vids lads! Keep it up!
Great video,so is there a case for the first step in the upgrade program.start with a much better ball before changing your clubs.certainly less expensive.
cheers pal!
Great video but I agree with Lee M in the comments below about using the same golf ball for a proper comparison of the clubs. Keep up the great work.
Love Pete’s golf swing . None of this straight lead arm nonsense ,well done
agreed
Great video. I'm a high handicapper playing with Big Bertha irons bought in the late 'nineties. Our pro says they're absolutely fine - for me!

Pete has proved to me anyway about 80% is the skill of the golfer and 20% equipment, and Pete is a pretty good golfer.
It’s more like 98% golfer 2.% gear
Is that the slazenger v300 soft ball or the standard v300?
I like a nice ball to hit, I generally use a titleist or a taylormade and tbh I don't really mind the v300 soft in the winter. It's not a pro v1 but it's deff not a topfilght lol

Best review I’ve seen today! And that’s saying something
Nice review. Top feedback from Pete. I think using same ball could have given a true comparison of how the clubs compared.
Pete's swing since his lesson looks superb
I'm doing a bag overhaul this year (rescue wood to 3 iron, new irons and wedges are getting replaced - the wedges are from when I got a bag so I'm changing them to suit my game better)
Happy New Year Golfmates. I love my Golfmates merchandise.
Once again brilliant video, did not want that to finish👊🏻
EBay Pete played very good with both sets well done mate.
Good vlog and the result I was basically expecting. The Slazenger balls are a bit naff but can be ok for warming up in the nets before a game.

H ello Liam, just watched video, great content, I play with King Cobra mk 2, their about 15-20 yrs old and I would'nt change them.
All the very best for the future.
Excellent demonstration. Enjoyed watching gentlemen.
Glad you enjoyed it
I love the channel and EBay Pete seems to be a great guy! I play with Cobra driver and irons. Cleveland wedges and Scotty Cameron putter. I mostly use Snell golf balls.
Great review. I have been using a set of slazenger irons I bought off ebay about 4 years ago for £16. 100% agree with Pete. Loving these videos. Thank you so much.
Great to see captain Ebay swinging well, The V100 are horrendous however the V300 are a different kettle of fish, quite soft come off the putter well and at £20 for 24 balls cheap as chips great winter ball
I just got a set of Taylormade M6 for Christmas haven played them yet but I can’t wait. Bridgestone JGX driver 48° gap wedge 58° wedge 60° wedge
wow!!
I would have liked to see Pete's good club's against the cheap ball.🤔 love seeing these sort of test situations, very interesting to people who can't afford to spend a lot on gear.😍

Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video, as always with co-presenter Captain Pete…only thing I would say and I’ve seen a few say already, if you truly wanted to go club vs club, you should probably use a premium ball with both sets (or two terrible ones, I guess). That slazenger driver might only be 5 yards behind the taylormade instead of 20 with a good ball, who knows??
Did you get a Christmas card from slazenger? Enjoying the time with Pete.
hahah no lol
eBays practice swing is just a thing of real beauty!!! Keep up the good work Captain 👍🏻
Enjoyed that. Would be good to see the cheap clubs with a good ball
Fun video! So much about the bad ball. How much would a decent ball help the cheap clubs?
As always enjoy any video with EBay who is playing well, especially when you consider it is mid-winter conditions. Agree with Lee's comment below about changing only one variable below. Well done video though by all involved!
Well said!
Very informational video!! I learned a lot! Most of all, I AM STEVE BARLOWS NUMBER ONE FAN! THE ROCK OF CULLEN BARMY ARMY
Well done liam and Pete is swinging very well 👏 👍 😀 wonder what omp would make of em ha 😉
Thanks 👍
Still pointing right at set up Pete. so both shots ended up well right on the last green.
Brilliant idea! 🐊🏌🇵🇷🦅❤
Liked the video Liam and Ebay Pete I play with taylormade m 2 irons
Golf is not as much about the clubs as it is the golfer. The right skill set could use those and beat anyone. Fun video. Cheers.
INESIS clubs from Decathlon are a decent low budget option worth giving a try!
To get a proper club challenge, sould use the same ball?otherwise it could be the ball effecting the club performance ???
probably yes!
Calloway big berthas 2nd set love them, going to change them to Mavericks me thinks
Dodgy putt otherwise could have been all square. But definite tinny sound on the slazenger. I play Callaway xr's
agreed
Great video Liam, would be interesting to see Ebay play the Slazenger Irons and his own other clubswith either the Kirkland ball or maybe an Inesis 100 or 500 ball to see the results🤔👍
Pete proved you can get round the golf course with any clubs and enjoy it. When you’re new to the game you won’t know much difference between feel and sound. And what’s the chances you’ll be hitting out the middle every shot? If you play more, maybe spend a bit more. If you don’t play much, only spend what you can afford to have sat in the garage for weeks at a time not being used? 🤷🏻♂️Happy New Year Golf Mates 👍🏻
cheers happy new year
For someone who is just getting into the game and doesnt want to spend a fortune, maybe the clubs are suitable.
A fair test would have been to use the premium ball with both sets. then you would
ld have a real comparison between them. Currently using Cobra, However when Ping pull their finger out will have the Ping 924 I ordered 3 months ago.
Dont feel bad pete. Mr barlow is also a little bit heavy
I had a cheap catalogue set to start with and struggled to improve. Now I have Callaway mavriks and have knocked 8 shots off my handicap. Cheap clubs for fun no good if you're more serious though.
Nice to see ebay hitting the ball so well . Well done Dave Mac.👍👍
agreed!
King cobra tour irons 5-pw, ping wedge set and cobra f8 driver , 3 wood , 5 wood , and 7 wood. Putter solid brass roll face with 2 thumb grip
Good stuff
I have cobra forged tec in copper are golf mates they are mustard 🏌♂️
Yes. Need to keep the ball the same. Love the content.
Love Ebay, he's a natural co-presenter 😊
I've got a set of Wilson D7 irons and still have my old Wilson Fat shaft irons. I might take them down to the range & compare them now.
Great video again lads
haha he is !
It’s all about what’s on the score card !!
Good challenge like others have said use the same ball maybe have a 9 hole match next 1 using the v300 and the other using the inesis 100 decathlon cheap set.
cheers
Great video. Couldn’t really hear the difference in the balls. It’s all about the feel and if it feels good to yourself. Once you get a feel and sound you like, you don’t normally change.
I've got cheep hybrids. Olimar Stratos 4-pw. Older but better woods. Cobra 7 hybid and 5 wood. TaylorMade Burner driver
not bad, joe uses burner driver
Can you try get a cack handed golfer if you know one on the channel. I'm a cack handed golfer and would love tips
The only way to compare clubs is with the same ball. It'd be interesting to see what Pete thought about his own set while using that Slazenger brick.
