- In this wholesome final scene, Casper gets his one true wish and is transformed into a human, just in time to ask Kat for a final dance before the halloween party ends.
Caspar (1995): Seeing is believing when everyone’s favorite friendly ghost stars in this charming, live-action adventure from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. “Ghost therapist” Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman) and his daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci), have been hired by Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty) and her partner-in-slime, Dibs (Eric Idle), to get rid of the spirits at drafty, old Whipstaff Manor. Sure enough, the place is haunted by The Ghostly Trio - Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso - who don’t believe “fleshies” should come anywhere near their haunted domain. But Kat soon meets another, very different kind of spirit: Casper, a good-natured ghost who's just looking for a friend. Can they all learn to live with each other? With dazzling special effects and undeniable humor, it’s a family friendly adventure that’s ghostly fun for everyone!

Bro child actors from back then had real talent. You could feel the chemistry bursting out from the screen
They also have major trauma lol Hollywood is an abuse machine
They also have major trauma lmao children shouldn’t be actors. Especially considering Hollywood is a P-word machine
Christina Ricci was great in Adams Family also.
I had such a crush on Devon Sawa when I was younger! I first saw him in Little Giants and I thought he was so good looking!

I just can’t get over that “Can I keep you?” line. So good.
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
...I tried that line on a girl once....didn't work.

The person who sent me that message it's okay just be yourself 😊
@@Burner-Adventure-Chronicles Well, worked for me, although to be fair , I knew Casper was one of her favorite childhood movies .
So when I slipped the ring on her fingers as we danced at her family Halloween party , I knew using the line instead of the normal "will you marry me?" was going to work .
Her mother and I worked hard on setting it all up, she even planted the idea in my better half's head that her and me should dress like Cat and "Human" Casper AND made the costumes. 🙂
I feel really bad for Casper. He brought Kat's dad back, and he only gets a short period of being human in return. Not even "till midnight" just because he was 12 years old.
and he's technically not 12 yrs old. 😅
12 is such a young age to die poor casper 😢
The movie came out in 1995 and the trailer stated that for “100 years, he’s wondered the halls of Whipstaff Manor”. He would have been born in 1883 and died in 1895
yet all the othe rkids would be there till midnight if he didn't turn to a ghost.
@Jaegar19Ultima The SLAD story reminded me a bit at the movie CITIZEN KANE Everything ahd changed for Kane after he had treid out his slad, of the ROSEBUD -brand, And at the end the Slad became burned in the Heater while the reporter gave up looking for the meaning of the term ROSEBUD.
I went crazy when I saw this scene, even as an adult when I saw this movie. The boy was so cute and you feel so bad for poor Casper. Why would anyone want to be stuck like that?
Ah, but he DIDN'T want to be stuck like that. He just didn't have a choice.
😢
Ele não tinha opção deve ser assunto mau acabado ou aqueles outros fantasma não deixaram ele sair
So I wouldn't be an issue if you thought he was ugly? You made his attractiveness a factor
@@moxiemaxie3543 The idea of everyone being in aww of him was because of his looks... not simply because he walked down some stairs. he was handsome and he played it increadably well. The idea of pulling this moment off with someone out sides the mold of "attractive" wouldn't make any sense
After turning to be human again for a short while, Casper should have been allowed to proceed to the afterlife and be reunited with his father.
Maybe, he stayed to protect the two from his crazy ghost buddies! Haha! Though, didn't the dad bond with them while he was a ghost?
His unfinished business was his friendship......
Maybe when Cat dies they'll ascend together
Or better yet, remain alive permanently
@cybermystic9397 I think after helping kats dad he was content with being a ghost
4 years old me thought this is the most romantic shit in the cinematic history
It was
It still is😂
Its still pretty solid lets be real.
You could say that it is indeed a better love story than twilight.
Casper boy was my first crush, and watching this scene as a 30 year old confirms this is one hell of a romance piece. These were my standards lmaoooo
One of the best scenes ever! Romantic and bittersweet, in a family friendly way. I love this movie!
😊😊😊😊 this movie was very good 😊 and sad and lovely story 😊

Where I can watch this movie?
I can't believe this film is 28 years old. Lovely scene by the way.
Its been that long already I remember when this came out on vhs and watching it with my sister's geez I thought getting old would take longer seems just like yesterday.
Almost 30
"Can I keep you?" I'm 42 and don't remember feeling so strong emotions about these scenes like now when I watched this 30 years ago. Such a pleasure watching 90's movies now...

Always felt so bad for Casper, man. 🥺Poor dude went through all that, and only got one short dance and a single kiss with his best friend/crush before he had to go back to ghost form...
Seriously, Kat's mom, that was the best you could do?
Noobs never seen a ghost before🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This scene is pretty much a masterclass is composition, blocking, and camera movement. Apart from the way the girls on the dance floor, who damn well look to be in their early 30s, gawk and leer at what is supposed to be a freaking 12-year-old boy, the sequence is just amazing -- the way the actors move as the camera travels through the crowd, the slow burn of the characters walking to the dance floor, and not revealing Casper's face until the viewer can't take it anymore with a perfectly choreographed turn. It's a nice scene on its own merits, the Jordan Hill song fits perfectly, and Christina Ricci totally nails her role, but from a filmmaking perspective, it's very well done, too.
Shares a lot of similarities to Romeo + Juliet when they meet on either side of the fish tank. Just really beautifully done
I will never forget this scene! I was only 11 then and giggled so much my older brother threw a hair brush on me. 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
😂😂😂hahahahha
😂😂
I love Casper's personality so much he really shows not all ghosts are evil and I love how Kat's mom can grant wishes as a angel, I want to write Casper and Kat fanfics and am looking back at the movie for ideas
Casper really was a sweetheart! Just a lonely ghost who wanted company
welp ghosts are not real demons are.
I'd love to help you write this fiction or roleplay it😊
A majority of ghosts aren't evil at all and don't intend to scare folks, they merely want to be noticed, relay a message, among other things.
@@dbzgal04 don't go mess with the "other world" believing it's a nice old lady instead of demons who pretend to be good 😊 cuz that's how they get your trust.
Cat helped Casper reach his…Final Destination
🥁Ba dum tss!

Well Devon Sawa who played the human form of Caspar was in the first Final Destination.
@@Matsuna13Thanks for explaining the joke. Ffs
At least he didn’t do a Stan and her with him
As a child the moment they dance and the way he looked at her I melted! And was so sad for him too.
I love this film. I'm 43 and I still watch it from time to time but sometimes it makes me cry because it has a level of sadness which can touch the coldest of hearts ❤❤❤❤
So your the same age as the actress.
This remains one of my favourite scenes from childhood! I had such a crush on Human Casper
Oh child! So did I!

lol same but i forgot until this video appeared on my home page! and i was like hey this is familiar…
Omg same!!
Same, i grew up having crush on him
Was already a grown up when I saw this movie, loved the Casper cartoons as a kid, knew what ghosts were... but it had never occured to me that Casper was a dead child. Got me. Still gets me.
Little Casper is ADORABLE! Sweet, charming, kind!❤
This scene has always stuck with me. He was a handsome little fellow
“Cinderella wasn’t 12 years old.” That sounds like a mom thing to say
Cinderella didn't just save your husband's life, you ungrateful sow.
Actually if you look at the old newspaper clippings ( when Kat and Casper are in the attic)there’s one that says “McFadden Youth Dies” and it reads “Pneumonia claims life of 11 year old boy.” Casper was 11 when he died.
I remember seeing this when I was little, this felt magical. Truly loved the atmosphere of this scene. Sadly I wish it was a little bit longer.
I'm glad Christina Ricci and Devon Sawa grew up well in Hollywood. Today, Christina appears in Wednesday and Devon appears in Chucky!
Right , a lot of youngsters becoming movie stars in early age either get in serious trouble or even commit suicide like Jonathan Brandis who had won some fame with SEAQUEST DSV
You do know about Devon's serious trouble with addiction when he was in his 20's right.? I mean he had a wake up call when it was almost too late.
She is Also in “yellowjackets”
@@rogerlynch5279 we don’t really know if Hollywood trauma had anything to do with it. In fact there are more testimonies that say it’s because role were drying up. It’s also been said that it was supposed to be a cry for help/stunt that went bad
Love them both!
It's easy to forget that Casper was the spirit of a dead child. As children watching him we never bothered to wonder, or it never occurred to us, what he was like when he was living. Who was he? How did he die? This scene is great because it gives us a small glimpse into him as a living person.
That's why I've always viewed him with a certain amount of sadness.
this scene literally changed the entire trajectory of my life in some unexplainable way when i was 11
Man, I had such a crush on Devon Sawa (human Casper).
Im so glad you clarified it was the human casper as id be concerned if it was the ghost

My first crush💀
At those times I wasn't thinking about it , but now I see, how pure and innocent our childhood was. Sitting in front of the TV with such happiness and expecting to watch Casper once again, even if you knew each and every line and episode .. 😊😊😊 there is nothing more beautiful than our childhood ❤
I watched this movie with my first crush in high school. First guy I dated. I’ll always consider this “Our” movie. We stayed good friends throughout. I went to college and he joined the army. Unfortunately, he lost his life due to 9/11. I wear his ashes around my neck. This scene brings me to tears. I miss you Paul. ❤️🩹
what an incredibly emotional and cinematic reveal. The casting of the boy to play real life Casper was PERFECT.
He couldn't even see his dad one last time. That always broke my heart. Sure he got a message from him, but still. Imagine if Casper got to speak with his dad, so they tell each other how much they loved and missed each other, and how much his dad's heart broke knowing how lonely and abused he's been all these years, and how proud he is of his dear son.
My favorite part of the movie is near the beginning when Dan Aykroyd's character from Ghostbusters randomly shows up and says "Who you gonna call? Someone else!"
That scene at the end where he danced with her and kissed her was so heartrendingly sweet and touching It made me cry at how sad it was for both of them.
It comes to a question that does Casper look better in his human form or ghost form. I would like to say human form, I love this moment between Casper and Kat. 😊❤
I agree Casper does look better in Human Form and Devon Sawa was 16/17 years old when he started playing the Human Casper. and Devon is a funny name for him. because Devon is a county in South West England where i came from and Devon is famous for Cream Tea's by the way

90’s kids movie were amazing: Casper (1 and 2), Tom and Jerry movie... they were able to speak about several topics such as child abuse, death, mental illness.

There are more Casper movies?
@@juliocabral6949 The 1st live action casper movie was Casper, the 2nd one was Casper: A spirited beginning and the 3rd one was Casper meets wendy but only Casper’s Haunted Christmas (2000)
Casper’s Scare School (2008) were animated.
Tom and Jerry movie is amazing. We used to watch that on repeat and it still hilds up as an adult.
Technically the 2nd major motion picture Casper was canceled. The sequels you see are more like low budget knock offs. It would have been amazing to have a sequel, but honestly... I think this movie perfectly addressed death, grief, loving someone without them loving you in return, the meaning of treasure and value to people, and doing the right thing even if it prevents you from coming back from death.... This movie will always hold a place in my 9 year old boys heart. I watch it around Halloween every year. Christina Ricci literally looked just like my sister. "Can I keep you?" is the way I tell my wife I love you sometimes. wish the true sequel had worked out, but at least this movie exists. And the special effects have aged so well its a rarity in 90s GCI

I used to watch this movie when i was a kid...(I'm a 90s kid) i think it's time to rewatch it! Thank you for posting this!
Spielberg is awesome. And knows how to place the emotions at our hearts. I've seen three of his Universial Studios films that made me cry. The sad parts and happy ending of "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story" (soon to be 30 years, this Thanksgiving) where we learn about Louie and Cecilia's parents and their love for each other and their parental reconciliation. And this story about Casper and Kat showing no matter how different we are we can have a lot in common and be friends to the end. And (sorry this one is not family friendly) "Schindler's List" (a true story one too), which I watched all the way through despite it being hard and shows that there's still good individuals who will do the right thing for the lives of others even when most of society won't. I love Steven Spielberg. And of course a bonus: I didn't fully see this one, but Balto (1995) is a great cartoon of a true Wolf/Dog for humintarian aid. Even though I was born at the very end of the 1990s I want to thank Mr. Spielberg for exposing me to these films and showing that there's always good that can happen for all good people no matter who it is or where ever they are.
Editor is Brad Silberling, not Steven Spielberg ))) But in any case, movie is amazing. I miss that golden age of American cinema, today's Hollywood don't release movies like this.
@WeltSchmerz1349 Yeah, they do. We just don't watch it.
@@WeltSchmerz1349 Spielberg is executive producer for this. This is an Amblin movie for Universal Studios. Plus the director of "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story was the cartoon storyboard artist for this with Casper and his uncles with the live action inputs.
@WeltSchmerz1349 90s truly was the height of cinema. Real camera reels, practical effects blemded perfectly with CGI touch ups, no streaming or same day video releases - you had to go to the cinema at midnight premieres or catch the early matinee the next day, and every scene was shot by a cinematographer, every prop bought or custom made... It was just a perfect time before GCI, digital cameras, and computers made it all feel cheap cause it was designed to be cheaper
I remember watching this clip for the first time when I was about 8 years old but without the part with Kat's mom. As soon as I saw him, I had a huge crush on human Casper but at the time I didn't know that he was a ghost and I remember being so shocked and disappointed when he turned back into a ghost 😂
this scene, backed by Jordan Hill's "Remember Me This Way", still hits me in the feels hard even today. I'm not afraid to admit it brings a grown man to tears.
This is such a great scene!
The can I keep you line is beautiful and haunting. A ghost asking human can he keep her means…she was gonna die and go to ghost land with her. And both Casper form are adorable
“Cinderella wasn’t 12 years old” she’s 14 but she gets midnight??!!
Plus Casper gave up his one chance to be human again. What did Cinderella do?
@@brianbanville781 She didn't do anything as she was forced to become a servant like Casper sort of is with his Uncles who did not have to make him do those things
The living kids weren't putting their coats on and getting ready to leave for bed at 10, the party was still in full swing and obviously going to continue well past 10. It was downright cruel that Casper wasn't even allowed to be a real kid until the end of the party.
What Cat's mother did is enough, there are rules even in paranormal things and only God can allow angels to perform miracles, here Kat's mother is doing this on her own although that breaks the rules since reliving is prohibited. to the dead 😷
4:19 (whispering) This is the part where you run away.
Casper's human form was my sexual awakening 😂
You posted that on here, on a page where little kids will frequent, and said "Yeah, I'm glad I wrote that."
Yeah ngl you could um maybe phrase that a little different? It's a bit weird when referencing a child actor at the time as well 😬
Casper is 12 years old. This is the minimum age of sexual consent. And the actor was 17 years old.
Well.. it is Devon Sawa after all. 😂
@@sg39ghow u are right, the actor was 17 in this! He looked way younger

This movie is based upon the classic cartoon series, Casper the Friendly Ghost. So, he's like an old friend who I could never be afraid of.
Every time I watched this scene when I was little I felt so heartbroken they couldn't live together as humans.
I wish more movies could stick the landing and have an ending as heartfelt and memorable as this one. There is one part of the film where Casper recalls his own death in such an innocence but sad way from the view of a child which makes the scene even more dark and heartbreaking 💔
What makes it even sadder is as they die and become ghosts there humanity slowly slips away and they start to forget there previous life or who they were and even the circumstances of their own death.
Chokes me up each time as it’s so sad but well acted and scripted. I really love ❤️ this film.
The 1980s were not the only decade for amazing movies, this proves it

Haha, I watched it on theaters in the Philippines. My female cousin's friend came to our house and passed out little pics of the human Casper boy. And I asked if I can have one too, and she reluctantly gave me one 🤣

Kat can't really go back to public school again. After she was making out with Casper after he became a ghost they will never unsee that. She will probably be homeschooled till college
I've always loved the piano piece starting at 3:29
Heard it back then, and still hum or whistle it today
I used to imagine Casper finding his father’s serum ingredients with Kat. Working through trial and error to make the perfect last serum for Casper to become permanently human.
Honestly they probably wouldn't even need to do that. Casper's dad was a scientist, he'd have kept detailed notes on his creations. The formula for the Lazarus Elixir and the exact process used to make it should be somewhere in his lab.
Damn, that one last wish music really hits me in the feels even after nearly 30 years 😢 remember going to see this movie in Woodall Spa Kinima when i was 10 years old
