It was so hard to watch this movie again, as an adult. My son lost his best friend when they were in 3rd grade 😢, very suddenly from a virus. He was with him earlier in the day, same day he died. I remember the bus driver telling me my son was laying on the seat, his head where his friend used to sit next to him, crying to himself in silence. He refused to let any other kids sit with him. And when he would get sick with a typical virus himself, he thought he was going to die so I would sleep with him on the couch. He was somewhat of a hypochondriac growing up not only because of the sudden loss, but because the day his friend died the boy was complaining to my son about cramping in his hands. He replayed that day so many times thinking he could have saved him somehow. The boys fingers were stuck / cramped but they still did their secret handshake before departing that day not knowing it was their last moment together. The school counselor helped my son a little, but looking back I wish I could have done more for him.
I'm sorry I really hope your son is doing okay how is he doing? I lost my friend this year 😢 he had health issues he was 31 he was almost turning 32. He died just a few days after New year's Day. 4th of Jan. I found out on his birthday that he passed away 😢 I had a broken heart syndrome. I couldn't breathe when I was crying. And I feel like I have that too cuz I sometimes worry about being sick or having cancer. When I really don't.
I'm half a century old, have been on battlefields, was in law enforcement, was a fire fighter and First Responder, have seen many things tragic and beautiful, but I've never been able to watch these parts of this movie without tearing up 😢 The writing and acting in this was so well done and so realistic that it just hits you down to your soul.
@Dynamic Dave unfortunately I was going to need it, I come from a family where I wad born 15 years late, so I've had to watch lots of family pass on while I've been young. So this really set me up to bare a little bit better.
2:04 Dan Akroyd does an incredible job portraying this moment… you can see the bewilderment and the life sucked out of him hearing the news. I cried watching this as a kid and I cry as a grown man now
My Girl is a great example of a perfect 90's movie. Its just a wonderful film imo. I was 10 when this came out (Perfect age to relate to Thomas J and Vada) and I still remember this being the 1st movie I liked enough to see more than once at the theatre. Vada also was my 1st crush. This movie had a huge impact on me.
This whole scene has me in bits everytime 🥺😢 "he's okay isn't he? There were just too many of them" "where are his glasses? he can't see without his glasses. Put his glasses on" 💔 It was so heartbreaking for this special friendship to end after such a significant moment but such a sweet goodbye "vayda will you think of me. If you can't marry Mr Bixsler"
True friendship they have it’s so heartbreaking that Thomas J. passed away that really affected her until someone you love and spend so much time together it hits you so I relate to her.😢
I am annoyed 🤨. I have not seen this in a very long time, but here’s the thing- if you are allergic to wasps/hornets etc. you are hyper-aware of the sound they make. And kicking the nest?! Kid was smarter than that.
The saddest part about Thomas J. asking, “Will you think of me….?” is that it never got to happen. 😢😢 Also, assuming that Thomas J. went to the woods to find Vada’s ring immediately after asking if she would consider him if she couldn’t marry Mr. Bixler, Vada would have been the last person he saw before he died. So many details, large and small, made this movie a tear-jerker.
@@kevinmiller6380 Oh absolutely!! That’s probably why he asked Vada if she would think of him (if she couldn’t marry Mr. Bixler). Thomas J. & Vada may have only been 11, but he was the best example of unconditional love to her. It would not surprise me if Thomas J. envisioned his friendship with Vada blossoming into a romance, and the two of them marrying one day.
You can't blame her completely, as no one is forced to respond to someone, but the sadness over his death is something that leaves me distressed every time I watch it. 😢
This Part always gets me. when I was 9 my dad had to tell me my best friend had passed away. 3:28 to 3:45 so I can totally relate to Vada. it took me a lot of courage to go to my friend and say my final goodbye and then 29 years later my best friend in the world passed away and one of his support workers told me he had passed away. and at his funeral, it took me a lot of courage to walk up to him and say my final goodbye.

@Leanne0531 That's true. I was very sad too but, I guess in some ways, it was Thomas J.'s fault that he died since he kicked the beehive being unknown why he did it whether it was because he wanted to see if the mood ring was under it, or he kicked it to see if the bees were in there, or if he was just bullying them since he came up with the idea to knock the beehive off the tree branch. However, between Thomas J. and Vada's grandmother Gramoo, it should have been Gramoo being the one who passed away instead for one thing, she was very old who had Alzheimer's Disease and she was mostly a troublemaker on the film.

The last thing that was known was that Thomas J.'s mom asked Thomas J. if he made his bed before allowing Thomas J. go out and play with Vada.
Harry telling Vada what happened was done so well. As a parent, Telling your child that a close friend or family member has died is one of the hardest things to do.
After one of my best friends died when I was 22 and he was almost 27 from a rare form of cancer, I have NEVER been able to bring myself to watch this movie again because of these scenes. I was reacting so, so similarly to Veda. I knew he was gone but I just couldn't stop the crying, and the viewing was also the hardest part in my case, just like for Veda. I also lost another best friend to a shooting at w club, he was one of the bouncers. Didn't fully hit me until the memorial service, and I was a complete wreck. With my friend who died of cancer, we all knew it was coming. With my bouncer friend, it was so unexpected and sudden.I doubt I will ever watch this movie again.... Too big of a reminder of too many painful memories...
Such a bold movie, especially at the time. It's like it's specifically designed to be upsetting and that hadn't really been explored that much in mainstream media at that point in time. Scary, yes. Disturbing, yes. Upsetting moments in movies, yes, but not like this. This part of the movie IS the movie. It's all anyone thinks about when they hear the name. So I take my hat off to the writers for being so gutsy. Like it or not, it's brave.
As an adult i respect the film makers for making this decision and not giving us a happy ending but an ending that we will never forget and gets us thinking about life.
Can’t we just applaud Anna for nailing this amazing performance wow and I felt so bad for her made me cry losing her best friend I believe there was some love between them as well still it’s so heartbreaking when you lose someone broke my heart 😢am glad Shelly also came both in Vada and her dads life as well one of my all top favorite movies!

This must have disturbed a lot of kids seeing him die in the movie. Macaulay Culkin was a big star back then just coming off the success of "Home Alone".
When this movie came out, I was reading the reviews of it, and every movie critic said that if you take your kids to see this movie, they needed to be forewarned that Thomas dies in the movie
I remember watching this movie when I was 10 and had just moved far away from home where my best friend in the whole world lived. He was a boy I had known my whole life because our parents were friends, we grew up together and were inseparable. It was also that first puppy love, and losing him ripped my heart out. This scene in the movie really hurt. We stayed in touch during many years through letters and later sms, emails, but eventually went our separate ways and each got married. Although I love my husband, I feel a part of me died when I moved away because I lost my one true soulmate.
My sister lost her best friend at age 10 to an arson fire. This movie reminded me of her sorrow and horror that her friend had been so brutally taken. Nearly 60 years later, she has great difficulty talking about it.

Someone should of explained death and explained that it was only to say your good byes by seeing that person for the last time.
Veda's little heart was so crushed when Thomas J died the way be did and then became even more heartbroken when her favorite teacher announced that he was getting married because Veda was too young to understand that there were boundaries between teachers & students. By the way, that was a paper nest so those were white faced hornets that came after Thomas J. I wonder if any of the adult cast members from Home Alone 1 and 2 have seen this movie.
This just brakes my heart to see Vada's best friend Thomas Jay . Passing away from getting stung by bees. My mom passed away last year just 10 days before Christmas. My mom had ALS it was very hard for my stepfather and I. To see my mom suffering like that. God saw her crying so God called my mom home. My stepfather and I are getting counseling. To help with our griving. RIP Thomas Jay ☹️😭
Tell me about it. I started tearing up to but I like seeing a Strong, Grown Man cry over something other than a football game. Shows he’s not afraid to be vulnerable and allow himself to open up.
Vada losing her best friend so young is so heartbreaking. You know, Thomas J's parents could have said to Vada "He loved you you know. You know Thomas J never had much luck making friends. He said that if it wasn't for you. Vada you're the best friend he's ever had and we wanna thank you for that"
Thomas J's mom did talk to Vada later in the movie. She gave her the ring he had in his pocket when he died when he went back for it. She also told her that she was such a good friend to him.
I totally compare this to Bridge to Terabithia, because Thomas J.’s and Vada‘s friendship was a lot similar to Jess and Leslie‘s friendship. And when Vada was leaving on her bicycle, Thomas J. was looking at her the same way Jess was looking at Leslie when she was leaving. Those were the last times, Thomas J. and Jess saw Vada and Leslie, respectively. :(
@Kevin Miller That's correct. However, it should have been Vada's grandmother Gramoo being the one who passed away instead of Thomas J. since Gramoo was mostly a troublemaker and she was old having Alzheimer's Disease.
This is actually really terrifying that one day you’re out and about in lieu of a care when death strikes and you couldn’t even be mentally prepared, lest of all it happening to a child . . .
Even years before this film came out, I had a fear of bees. And I *STILL* do to this very day. Every time this scene comes on, I have to take the brace position (cover my face, close my eyes, look away from the TV screen, etc.). Hell, I remember when Animal Planet was showing a documentary of Asian Giant Hornets back in 2020, I noticed what they were talking about, and I could hear Zangief from the 1994 Street Fighter film saying, "QUICK! Change the channel!" in my head. And that I did.
I do largely because I nearly ended up like Thomas J. I once mowed over a hornet nest (I couldn't see it because it was an in-ground nest) I was lucky that a neighbor of mine was outside and rescued me when he did.
@@jonjahr3403 Are you allergic to bee stings? I've been stung three times by a bee (possibly a wasp), and haven't had an allergic reaction whatsoever. He died just a few days after New year's Day. 4th of Jan. I found out on his birthday that he passed away 😢 I had a broken heart syndrome. I couldn't breathe when I was crying. And I feel like I have that too cuz I sometimes worry about being sick or having cancer. When I really don't.
I'm so sorry! I wish I could give him a hug! I hope your son is doing well now. God bless you both!
Im.sorry
This is one of the saddest deaths in movie history. You get tears in your eyes when he dies.
Doesn’t compare to my dogs but your right it’s not cool what happened to him,It’s the worst part about life but one day we'll get our friends back
She not die bruh
This not real
Watch Bridge to Terrabithia
There were just too many of them 😢❤
No matter a story the loss of your child so real, so heartbreaking. God bless every parent who has suffered such.
I'm half a century old, have been on battlefields, was in law enforcement, was a fire fighter and First Responder, have seen many things tragic and beautiful, but I've never been able to watch these parts of this movie without tearing up 😢
The writing and acting in this was so well done and so realistic that it just hits you down to your soul.
fake and possibly gay
Same. It’s because it’s kids.
😂😂😂
I was a kid when this came out. It taught me a lot about life and death. Thank you.
I agree… this is one of the best movies to teach young ppl about life and death
@Dynamic Dave unfortunately I was going to need it, I come from a family where I wad born 15 years late, so I've had to watch lots of family pass on while I've been young. So this really set me up to bare a little bit better.
2:04 Dan Akroyd does an incredible job portraying this moment… you can see the bewilderment and the life sucked out of him hearing the news. I cried watching this as a kid and I cry as a grown man now
Me, too. Brilliant movie.
His acting can be something sometimes but I always forgot how much range he has, as well as being an Oscar nominee.
You are so weak. Who cries at some stupid movie 😂🤦♂️
I was 11 years old I know how it is to lose a friend like that at a young age still breaks my heart after 33 years
My Girl is a great example of a perfect 90's movie. Its just a wonderful film imo. I was 10 when this came out (Perfect age to relate to Thomas J and Vada) and I still remember this being the 1st movie I liked enough to see more than once at the theatre. Vada also was my 1st crush. This movie had a huge impact on me.
She really did some heavy lifting with her acting for such a young age.
@@kristinroelofson4152 Sounds to me like Thomas J. would have been open to marrying Vada; they were such close/good friends.
“There were just too many of them” 😭💔
3:41 you can see the pain in her eyes when she hears the news, and that’s what really tears me apart
You can't blame her completely, as no one is forced to respond to someone, but the sadness over his death is something that leaves me distressed every time I watch it. 😢
I’m jjiuhgyu
This Part always gets me. when I was 9 my dad had to tell me my best friend had passed away. 3:28 to 3:45 so I can totally relate to Vada. it took me a lot of courage to go to my friend and say my final goodbye and then 29 years later my best friend in the world passed away and one of his support workers told me he had passed away. and at his funeral, it took me a lot of courage to walk up to him and say my final goodbye.
Wow. I am so sorry for each one of your losses. At times when it seems like you don't feel you have the courage to do certain things just remember the courage you had when you had to attend these two funerals.
@@RaySchwarz. AW aw aw thank you so very much.
Am sorry very sorry this happened to you ❤️🙏🏻this happened to me as well death never easy it hits so hard we can relate to Vada big time!😢
@@selinaogorman8380 Aw aw Thank You. I am so sorry it happened to you too. yep, we can relate to Vada.
I am so very sorry for both your losses. May they both rest in peace
I have to say that the silent acting between the cop and Dan Ackroyd was brilliant.
Its not silent..... he actually tells him that they found Thomas J... I heard it while watching with headphones
@@MsUnderstood23thats not what he meant.
@@MsUnderstood23it’s silent because even if you were to watch the clip with no audio and no context you can still tell what the conversation was about. Receiving terrible news.
I heard the same thing especially the part where Thomas was killed and stepped in a beehive i knew it ever since watching that scene where the sherif tells Harry what happened to Thomas. @@MsUnderstood23
@@stevenrodriguez1394I definitely heard similar terrible news like that but after watching that I always ever since watching the movie how can anyone dile from bee stings mean it's not that the bees attacked his insides it was just his face that was stunged
I really hate they kill off Thomas J like that. They shouldn’t have done that.
Then the story wouldn't have had such a deep impact
He should've just stayed "home alone" 😔
Why ?
@@tylerjames7015 why what?
Tray Daniel I agree with you. These film producers and director are all alike they don't even know what's going on my goodness.
I cant evwr make it through this without breaking down........suberb scene, and very touching
I remember seeing this as a kid and cried so hard! In my opinion, this movie has really held up well. Still a classic
I lost my best friend 13 years ago. They say time heals all wounds. This scene is a reminder to me that it doesnt. 😢
@@kathleenmaclachlan1541 thank you. I really appreciate that.
I lost my brother ten years ago. It still hurts. It'll never stop hurting. My heart goes out to you.
I appreciate that. Bless you.@@AsydandAbsynth
It never heals. You just learn to live with the wound that lasts the rest of your life
@greyhairedphantom4038 I do think about him everyday. A piece of me died with him now 14 years ago.
Such a Sad ending but I admire how this movie made you really think about life and realizing everything wasn't all rainbows and flowers and sunshine.
This scene always makes me cry, it’s just so sad to see her best friend go so young.
Well, it happens. Go visit your local cemetery and you will find people of all ages buried there----even babies.
@afriendofbean She died before the sequel
@@afriendofbeannot really where were the parents and he didn’t know it was his time just sad what they could’ve been because the last thing they said to each other it’s sad and having a parent explain to her or try too..
@@janderson9477 I know, Thomas J. didn't know that he was going to die from the bees especially since the minister said at the funeral, "one thing that bothers me is why did God choose to take this boy from us but God has chosen Thomas J. for a good reason." The last thing that was known was that Thomas J.'s mom asked Thomas J. if he made his bed before allowing Thomas J. go out and play with Vada.
I lost my friend around the same age as Vada, this movie always brings me to tears when I watch it.
Sadly no matter how much you try you can’t shield people from death even at a young age life is going to come and this scene is so sad…
6:15. Sad man. I'm in tears. And for the dad to just say that he is gone was just cold.
7:29. Damn. Her world was ripped right out.
As an adult i respect the film makers for making this decision and not giving us a happy ending but an ending that we will never forget and gets us thinking about life.
It was so realistic. Really showed the true reaction of grief.
I cried like a baby the first time I watched this scene. Anna was such a talented child actor. And adorable. Perfectly cast.
Anna and Malcualy were great in the movie and it seemed that they were such close friends that Anna's Vada could feel Thomas' suffering.
Still one of the hardest Cinema movie scenes to watch 🥺
Did she get an academy award? She should have. This little girl brought it.
This and Stand By Me 😭 they get me every time!
The relationship they had that was lost so suddenly was such a tragedy it makes tears well in my eyes
Thank you for posting all of these scenes back to back.
I consider myself a tough man. But this makes me cry and is just so sad.
Then you aren't a tough man at all you are a weak man
When he in heaven, he can see everything without glasses
Most beautiful innocent love story of all. The funeral scene still breaks my heart. It is raw emotion to the core and extremely convincing.
I’ve only seen one younger person in a coffin, a friend of my daughters’. There’s no words.
Just take care of each other. Look out for friends and family. And try to love each other no matter what.
6:18 My heart hurts 😢
Her only friend. Not only did she have to endure her first loves death and her supposed first love breaking her heart but, she also had to endure that Thomas j was being worked on in her own house and his funeral was in her house also.. she was so young
This is one of my favourite movies since I was a little girl. My parents taped it when it was on television. I would watch it all the time when I got home from school
First time I ever cried in the cinema aged 12. This scene hits every time 😭 Anna Chlumsky was brilliant.
Very true &very 😔
and a crybaby
Makes me bawl my eyes out and think of my brother who passed away at 14 in an accident, and what he would’ve achieved and been if he was still alive… 😢
❤️
this scene NEVER stops hurting......
Anna Chlumsky was one of the best child actors I have ever seen.
Evelyn
Disturbed me. I too saw it in theaters because of Home Alone.
The Good Son from 1993 was when he played against type.
@@MrXabungle Yes, at the insistence his father.
This and the Weeping Willow poem at the end always makes me cry 💔
I'm 51 and still tearing up watching this just like when it was in the theater.
I just watched it again… 32 years later and being 45, I still cry, everytime😢.
same here
I can never look at the Thomas J funeral scene without tissue. Also, Vada won the stepmom lottery with Shelly. That woman really cared about her.
I haven't seen this movie in a long while and I couldn't even look at the scene where Thomas got stung by all of those bees I literally had to skip it
This is one of the most saddest endings in a film ever. What a phenomenal performance!
When i was a kid i cried my eyes out watching this movie. Nothing has changed. Im 41 now.
3:04 my gosh, that pretty little face got me everytime
Damn!! I can never get through this scene without crying. 😭😭 That was bold putting a child in a coffin. It was harsh..
Absolutely it tragic I been through this exactly like her I saw my passed away aunt way long ago it was so heartbreaking to me at that time I can relate to her so indeed no child ever should see this definitely out of respect keep the lid closed!😢
@Selina OGorman I know.. I lost my childhood friend to a car accident. He was 6 and his lil sister was 3. They were on their way to Sunday School in our small town full of snow. They tried to break, but the snow was slippy, and they drove directly into the train crossing. My family and I drove pass the accident and saw a horrific sight. I feel you. I am so sorry you went through that.
@@valentinogal781 I am so sorry for your loss. Life might not be easy to deal with when you lose your best friend or even a member of your family but I know you can make it through
@Taylor Perry Likewise.. I am sorry for your loss, too. I actually got to see the gruesome aftermath as we were driving by. It was traumatic. You got to see an open casket a such a small age. Someone should of explained death and explained that it was only to say your good byes by seeing that person for the last time.
What a that actor playing the dead boy had to get in the coffin ⚰️ and playing dead ? That part would creep me out.
That girl had a special talent. Put on a very convincing performance.
The drop of those glasses is pure pain for the audience.
I cried during this scene when the movie was in theaters. It still tears me apart.
I don’t care how tough a man is this scene will make him cry!
Tell me about it. I started tearing up to but I like seeing a Strong, Grown Man cry over something other than a football game. Shows he’s not afraid to be vulnerable and allow himself to open up.
Ha Ha! so true…..😀
Holy cow! I am not a man. Movies do not make me cry. They never did. Only music, alone, with no movie has ever made me cry. 🤔
Exactly I understand that she Lost Thomas j rest in peace
*From the very beginning it was evident from shy eyes of Thomas J.. what he felt about Vada*
Poor Vada. She was really broken up over losing her best friend. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
@Kevin Miller That's correct. However, it should have been Vada's grandmother Gramoo being the one who passed away instead of Thomas J. since Gramoo was mostly a troublemaker and she was old having Alzheimer's Disease.
That is saddening
This movie always made me cry as a kid
if you watched it now would you still cry. Lol I did.
@@treatwomenright33 probably my hormones are out of wack and I’d probably cry like a baby. 🤣

The fact this made me cry😭
This is actually really terrifying that one day you’re out and about in lieu of a care when death strikes and you couldn’t even be mentally prepared, lest of all it happening to a child . . .
Cried when I first watched this movie about 15 years ago, still cry to this day.💔
Even years before this film came out, I had a fear of bees.
I am the same way, I’ve been terrified of bees, wasps, since I was a kid, still am
However, I am allergic to amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic. No anaphylaxis, I had broke out in hives. Oh, and I'm assuming that "hornet nest" you mowed over was actually a yellow jacket's nest. @@DeadRaymanWalking Don't know, never been stung by a bee. However, the neighbor who rescued me said they were hornets and got a good look at them, and their in-ground nest. I eventually saw the nest myself after he killed them. And the doctor said it could well have killed me.
