- If you think you want to try your hand at welding, then you need to think hard about the Miller Multimatic 215 multiprocess welder. For less than $2,000, you get a unit that can MIG, TIG and Stick (Arc) weld. In addition to being a multiprocess welder, the Miller Multimatic 215 also sets the best parameters for the user.
Without reading a manual, anyone that has any familiarity around welders can setup the Multimatic 215 in less than 5 minutes. With the automated LED panel, the operator trims out their wire-feed speed and voltage, hence creating the perfect MIG weld. Just select the process (MIG, TIG, or Stick), wire size (MIG), and metal thickness. The Miller Multimatic 215 takes it from here.
We were impressed with the quality of weld we ran, just straight out of the box, using the Multimatic suggested settings. A little tweaking for personal preferences, and the MIG bead was settling in very nice. For ease of transition from MIG to TIG, there are two separate Gas inputs on the rear of the Multimatic 215. The user can have their 75/25 (Argon/Co2) and the 100% Argon hooked up at the same time. With the TIG torch set, Miller includes an additional regulator as well, for Argon hookup.
The Miller Multimatic 215 multiprocess welder fits the beginner or novice very well. Depending on the work being performed, it may even fit the pro. We could see a bodyshop or mechanic using this as their sole machine. True fabricators are going stick with better single process machines.
We have no problem recommending the Miller Multimatic 215 for anyone in the market for a multiprocess unit, or for their first welder. For less than $1,500 you can get the Multimatic 215 with MIG and Stick. To get the TIG torch setup included, the system costs somewhere in the $1,800 range. Miller covers the Multimatic 215 with their TrueBlue warranty. This basically covers diodes and main power rectifiers for 5 years parts and 3 years labor.

Ive had one for about a year now. I Have used it on all processes to include the 150 spool gun, aluminum and steel. There is nothing wrong with it. The suggested "miller tig pedal" is junk though. I got a full sized aftermarket pedal, now its good. The autoset feature is pretty spot on with all processes. The arc on all processes is surprisingly good, real smooth and "fuzzy". I got this to replace my powcon mst 200 that finally took a dump. It will spray arc mig real nice with spoolgun or intrenal mig with 0.35 and 25/75 or pure argon gasses. Stick welds real sweet. No complaints.

@@JuanHernandez-ub3ez it'll take any torch thats hooked on a "gas through 35 dins". Arc zone makes good stuff. Their special hoses are very flexible, lite and durable. They are very helpful over rite phone and will make custom setups of any orientation You want. You ask whats the best torch, that's like asking what's the best music. You'll get 100 different answers to that question. Personally, I'm set up with a little bit of everything. Huge nozzles and tungsten for fat utility welds and smaller setups for delicate work. Gas shield and non shield of all nozzle and tungsten sizes. All weld joints and configurations have different reactions to different torch setups. Air cooled torches are what I'm using on this 215. I hang my hot torch in front of a fan in between welds when I'm doing production work.

@@JuanHernandez-ub3ez you can do good with the supplied 215 stuff. Ask your other welder friends what they're using and work from there. I was a welder,fabricator, machinist for many years in many shops. That exposure gave me a vast array of different equipment choices at my employers cost . So I'm able to draw from those experiences to cherry pick what I need in my shop. I know Not everyone has that luxury. But I found that the highest amp aircool torch and large gas lens setups will do everything you need to start your collection with. Then you can fine tune your collection when you come up short with the larger gas lens. Getting into tight confines will be your next challenge to make new choices in a tig torch assemblies. Non-gas lens nozzles tend to be very sensitive to breeze or working around corners. It's all about argon gas coverage without being wasteful on your flow cfh and not overworking your tungsten .
Oh...and get a (usaweld.com) replacement tig pedal for the 215. That toy pedal they supply is pure junk. It'll work, but it's too small and has too short of a throw for a fine tuned feeling between your booted foot and the arc. IMHO

My POS Harbor Freight welder needs to be up graded to this marvelous miller wonder welder . Plus plus plus the new tig welding feature is the greatest thing since the invention of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich !!!!
Yes, the multiprocess with the TIG is great to have all in one machine. The digital screen and easy user interface makes setup for different processes and jobs much easier.

I might add that if I needed a HD high production machine that runs at its max all day long, I wouldn't get this machine. For the hobbyist, car body, hvac, this is more than enough. I reached the duty cycle auto shutoff feature pretty quick when I stick welded 5/32... 7018.

I've read bad things about the MIG gun supplied with this unit! Hopefully, Miller has it sorted out by now. With the premium price I'm paying, I don't want a junk gun! Hobarts MIG guns are very nice, I only hope Miller's is as good or better.
We've ran many spools of wire thru the gun with no issues.
Aren't miller and Hobart same company
@@jetthelooter Miller owns Hobart. The only differences are quality control, price, and usually the screw threading on certain areas of expensive parts. For example, Hobart spool guns don't generally work on Miller welders.
I like the new screen as it's easy 2 c new settings. However, it appears as though this is a 211 with a tig/stick feature as an after thought. With no high frequency start it's a big downside unless ur already used 2 tig welding with a scratch or lift arc start.

duty cycle depends on how hot you run it. according to the manual, on the lower half of its power settings in 110V you pretty much have a 100% duty cycle.
How can we get the 215 to post gas when welding stainless steel and aluminum ?
The 215 should automatically post-flow 8-15 seconds, depending on Amp. Factory set to 1sec for every 10A, with a minimum of 8sec and maximum of 15sec.

It's optional, you can use a scratch start without the pedal.

My son now want’s this Miller 215 mp welder? I bought him a Miller 211 mig welder with spool 150 gun. I think he should just keep the 211 and ad a stick welder to it? Not sure from here what to do?

Does the tig torch have a solenoid valve for argon?
The machine has 2 gas ports that automatically switch depending upon which process you're welding with. The valve is not on the torch itself. Thanks for watching.

Does anybody know the difference between the 120 and 240 volts? What is the purpose for each?
Santiago Vazquez without writing a seven page essay it basically means you can get more amps out of your welder 240 is the best way to go cause you’ll get max amperage
110 or 120 v is standard household outlet, like for your lamp or toaster.
220 or 240 v is a different much heavier more powerful outlet, like for your stove or clothes dryer. 110 / 120 v = only enough power for very light welding eg. sheet metal
220 /240 = much more powerful for heavier commercial grade welding on heavier steel.
Most garages are only 110 v and need to be up graded to 220 by a qualified electrician. This can sometimes cost around $1000. Less if you are lucky.

@@gordjohnson70 you can do what I did I have central air conditioning so I put a 240 outlet parallel off the condenser disconnect. I leave the air conditioning off when I'm welding

miller vs lincoln which is better
Oh brother, you just opened up a can and backed me in a corner. If I answer this, half the world will hate me, no matter which I pick. lol. Really and truly, they both make great machines. It's really more about the welder (person) than the welder (machine). Personally, I prefer the Miller, but I typically stay on the consumer/hobbyist/light-fabricator end of the spectrum. More industrial fabricators, pipe fitters, and others may choose the Lincoln. Miller and Lincoln have done a great job of expanding their inverter style multi-process machines that help people weld better, which otherwise they'd probably never have tried it. Sorry for the long answer, and thanks for watching. Strike an arc and keep pushing yourself, that's the real difference.

A few hundred more is a few hundred more. You can step up to a better Miller for a few hundred more as well. The Miller Multimatic 215 hasn't failed us yet. It allows inexperienced welders to perform better jobs, much easier.
252i costs more and won't run on 120v. It's a completely different machine for a different customer with a different budget and different needs.
