    You quite often see Hexa chain on offer, I am running it all the time now as Stihl RS is more expensive. It is a really lovely saw James. I also add a bit more oil to my Aspen, I will be around with the 462!

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад +1

      Having run it more today I have to say I'm definitely coming round to the hexa. I can't wait for you to run this saw.. and I can't wait to run your 462!!

    So, for the reset stihl doesn’t mention it but if you make the cuts in a medium sized log it should be re tuned if your in a drastically different climate. You should also add the 460 bar plate because it’s thicker, and I’d get the oversized clutch cover and the large felling dogs, they are almost a must in my opinion. 40:1 is great as long as you use a high quality oil, and congratulations on your new saw man

    What a bit of kit, I want one, not got a use for a saw that big but it's got the cool factor for sure. The hour recorder needs to be standard across the board with all engines. 50 to 1 no go for me 40 to 1 in everything!! I still hear the old boys sware by 32 to 1 but that is too rich in my opinion. (Better fail a plug than score a barrel.)

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад +1

      Bette RTO foul a plug than score a barrel! I like that! Yeah those hour meters are universal, I'll be buying a few that's for sure. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

    Nice one James 👍loose the sticker before it discolours the plastic, just my pet hate when you clean your machine and there's a darker patch where the sticker has been.
    There is a thought that filling fuel 3/4 full will mean that you need to refuel before the bar oil runs out thus protecting that expensive bar and chain
    Just seen the chips all over the car lol😂

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад

      I kinda like the sticker.. but yeah I kinda hate those dark patches too! Be interesting to see how it oils, most modern saws don't seem to use anything like 1:1 with fuel.
      Yeah covered the truck and it was 6-8feet away!

    Hi James, I've just come across your channel, and it's awesome! The 500i is an absolute beast!!! 💪
    I've got one coming very soon and am thinking about changing the 2 stroke oil I use. I've always used stihl hp super in my saws and never had any issues, but like the look of that castrol power 1 which is currently on offer in halfords at just under £10. Do you think it's a good option for the 500i? Or are there any other options you'd recommend? Thanks

    • @walkerscountrylife

    A friend had a 500i and was told to use a bit leaner mix of fuel and the chain oiler had some problems with oiling and kept smoking and not cutting the wood 🫣😱😡

  • @bumpkinrocks
    @bumpkinrocks 7 месяцев назад +1

    You should put on a 460 inner bar plate it's twice as thick as the 500's otherwise before you know it they'll be case damage. And bigger dawgs will help save damage👍💪

    Congrats James - nice saw. I think you're right to run her at 40:1 with a good FD rated oil. What oil does Stihl use in their MotoMix? I'm not sold on the less than WOT to break it in - run it like you stole it in big wood. If you don't want her to 4 stroke - take a swipe or 2 off your rakers and load her up - she's got plenty of TQ to pull a hungry chain. Just my 2 cents...

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад +1

      Stihl uses HP Ultra in motomix. I was just being nice to it for the first few minutes.. she's been wide open a lot today.
      I think Stihl have changed the programming.. I was limbing some very small branches today with it and no hint of 4 stroking.

    • @902hand7
      @902hand7 7 месяцев назад

      @@walkerscountrylife Doesn't Stihl HP Ultra only have a Jaso rating of FB?

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад

      @@902hand7 yes.. it's very odd. Ultra is FD but has a fuel stabiliser. Super is FD but semi synthetic..

  • @elemental4rce

    personally think that buckins gripes with the 'four stroking' are ridiculous and nothing to be bothered by. Hope you get a chance to put it in some big wood soon!

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад +1

      I tend to agree buddy. Got her into some bigger stuff today.. but also did a fair bit of limbing.. it's a non issue as far as I'm concerned.. but I also think Stihl have done some software changes since the earlier saws. You're much more familiar with the 500 than me, but it's a hell of a tool.

      @walkerscountrylife yes i did think of that soon as I posted the comment, I'm looking for a new saw soon might try the 500 had husqvarna 572xp and 592xp but the 500 looks like a beast

    • @jasegazzard3743
      @jasegazzard3743 7 месяцев назад +1

      @walkerscountrylife the 592xp with 24 inch bar is awesome for the big old man pines and big Mac trees I do but it's heavy well is to me no shortage of power, I like the 572xp as it's a bit lighter think only around .7 of a kg but feels much lighter and can swing it all day also good power has only got 22 inch bar tho, I'm wanting something in between so the 500 is 80cc I believe? We haven't got the 585xp or whatever it is hear in New Zealand yet and I don't like getting any either so that's why I'm thinking of the 500

    • @walkerscountrylife
      @walkerscountrylife  7 месяцев назад

      @@jasegazzard3743 I think you'll find the 500 is close to the power of the 592 in a package lighter than a 572.. where in NZ are ya?
