my first time using the stihl ms 500i with a 25" bar was cutting up this hackberry tree. This is the worlds first electronically fuel injected chainsaw. I was really impressed with the saw and how light it felt. weighing 13 pounds but packing 79 cc gives the 500i great power to weight ratio

I have a 391 pulling a 20" bar & I love it. That 500i cuts like a monster though, wow!
Now that's a saw!! I have an old McCullough, she's temperamental but when she runs she's wicked. I would love to get a new 500! But I just can't justify right now. You definitely picked out a winner! Love your videos Brock!
Gotta love those long bars as long as you have the power to use them. Saves on the back when bucking logs...you don't have to bend over! I own a 391, but after watching this I may have to add another saw to my Big Tool Rack.

I really appreciate the review as dropping 1500 - 2200 on a saw I'm trying to do my homework before I take the plunge and buy one. I have heard a lot of bad things about the cheesy airfilter setup on the 500i but at least it can be corrected with a maxflow air filter. I'm looking for the lightest most powerful saw for doing firewood logs as I seldom fall trees. Thank you for taking the time to review this saw its much appreciated.
The best part about the saw is it starts every time and never ever floods. You push a small black button to release the compression and pull. Even when sitting for a few weeks, starts 2 or third pull every time cold and one pull when warm. No frustration as you get right to work. And what a fun saw to use with near instant acceleration and it just pulls it way through the big boys…Nice. I dropped the cash and long forgot about the transaction. Except I had to pull a few strings to get it in time for Valentines Day for my Wife. She loves it too.

Having used Stihl’s and husqvarna’s entire pro line, the 500i is an interesting saw. It’s between the 462 and 661. Muffler mod and better air filter give it the torque bump it needs to really shine. I’d recommend a 661 or bigger for milling and a 40:1 mix a bit rich on the high screw. Milling is much more demanding on a saw. I had the money and wanted to have a dead certainty about going long bars on a mill and got an 881. I also use the 881 to flush cut large oaks to minimize stump grinder wear, or material needing to be burned
It is a beast. Reliability remains to be seen.

I bought the MS500i when they first released in Australia over a year ago. I was the first to have the Limited Launch Edition (349 of 500) to have ported straight away and I got a custom WDC Bark Box Stainless Muffler. THING IS MENTAL, AND I RUN 30:1 ratio mix
The hat is pretty epic!
