The deep is her natural voice, she is a very rare Dramatic Contralto, very few women are Contraltos. The thing with her though is that she also has a huge range upwards, so the low is her natural comfortable range and she has to put extra effort to do the highs. What you see in this video is not her full range though, she can reach lower than that and she can go a lot higher too, she is a monster of a vocalist that has no equal on this world.
I was in a relationship with a contralto for many years. What most people don't know about them is that they have great difficulty with going from their lower register to their higher because, for them, there is a distinct separation between those parts of the voice. One of the reasons why that voice type is so rare. What Diana has done is to marry those parts of her voice like a shotgun wedding. Whether they like it or not, they're going to be active at the same time. They don't share harmonic tuning with each other, but let it be heard anyway! What this has resulted in is the ability to sing polyphonically. If you listen long enough to her, your ear might start to detect that more than one note is coming out of her at a time. This is an inevitable result of forcing those seperate harmonic registers to work together and its truly amazing. She has a tender and vulnerable biography that's worth taking the time to get to know as well. From an abusive father to going abandoned and then later taking up singing while no one thought she could pull it off. When she was finally taken in by a decent family they got her one of the best teachers in the world. And normally, anyone who knows what they're doing with voice would have tried to shut down what she was doing and tell her it's bad for her voice, but clearly she is motivated beyond any persuasion to pull it off her way. And that must be what the teacher used to bring this power house of a performer out of her.

The producers of this Russian show set it up for Diana to win, and you knew it was all scripted when the judges were told they had to vote for other people after they all went gaga over this first performance. Diana is a natural *Dramatic Contralto* so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she has increased her range even more since this. You need a little back story to understand what helped "create" this unique phenomenon:- Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! I would HIGHLY recommend watching her performances (maybe once you've gotten a few more of her songs under your belt) on the show "the masked singer" its a show where the singers must disguise themselves and their voices as best they can and the audience and judges have to guess who they are. She's mindblowing in that! She also has a short cover of "take on me" by Aha, and another more improv cover of Michael Buble's "feeling good" (she was on a live stream with another woman named Sasha Kapustina and someone requested that they sing that, so they did on the spot with NO preparation. It's an amazing performance in my opinion!)
Her rich polyphonic deep contralto stand up very well to big loud speakers. Be sure to play it loud in a big room to have a full body immersion in the quality of her timbre. Then do it again with her treatment of the Dune soundtrack. Mind boggling
I know what you're thinking and it is not what you think it is she is 100% pure woman and her voice is not being altered to sound like that if you continue to react to other performances she has done you will then understand that is her voice and it is considered basically the rarest voice
Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. In 2017 when she was 13 years old, Diana’s vocal range was first measured and her vocal range then was measured from a low of D3 (lower alto range) to a high of A5 (upper alto range), which was unusually low for a 13 year old girl. During this “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, her vocal range was again measured and Diana’s functional vocal range now goes from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range), so she had defiantly improved her upper vocal range. No, she's not trans. 😆 I saw that confusion. She is just VERY rare. She is a contralto, which is the lowest female voice. Cher is another example of a contralto, but she isn't as low. As you can see, Diana's mouth/throat is big. This is an advantage to her, it helps with the manipulation of the sound. 😊 (She has also had vocal training)
The deep is her natural voice, she is a very rare Dramatic Contralto, very few women are Contraltos.
The thing with her though is that she also has a huge range upwards, so the low is her natural comfortable range and she has to put extra effort to do the highs.
What you see in this video is not her full range though, she can reach lower than that and she can go a lot higher too, she is a monster of a vocalist that has no equal on this world.
I was in a relationship with a contralto for many years. What most people don't know about them is that they have great difficulty with going from their lower register to their higher because, for them, there is a distinct separation between those parts of the voice. One of the reasons why that voice type is so rare. What Diana has done is to marry those parts of her voice like a shotgun wedding. Whether they like it or not, they're going to be active at the same time. They don't share harmonic tuning with each other, but let it be heard anyway! What this has resulted in is the ability to sing polyphonically. If you listen long enough to her, your ear might start to detect that more than one note is coming out of her at a time. This is an inevitable result of forcing those seperate harmonic registers to work together and its truly amazing. She has a tender and vulnerable biography that's worth taking the time to get to know as well. From an abusive father to going abandoned and then later taking up singing while no one thought she could pull it off. When she was finally taken in by a decent family they got her one of the best teachers in the world. And normally, anyone who knows what they're doing with voice would have tried to shut down what she was doing and tell her it's bad for her voice, but clearly she is motivated beyond any persuasion to pull it off her way. And that must be what the teacher used to bring this power house of a performer out of her.
And just so everyone has a familiar frame of reference, Cher is probably the most famous example we have in music history of this contralto type.

Greetings from Scotland! Diana was18yo here and 21yo currently but I've been following her career since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural *Dramatic Contralto* so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she has increased her range even more since this. She also naturally sings with *polyphonic overtones* so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Any song, any genre, in any language, Diana can sing it and improve it! You need a little back story to understand what helped "create" this unique phenomenon:-
Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage!
This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. She has performed songs and six different languages including Russian, English, French, Spanish, Arabic, German. I would HIGHLY recommend watching her performances (maybe once you've gotten a few more of her songs under your belt) on the show "the masked singer" its a show where the singers must disguise themselves and their voices as best they can and the audience and judges have to guess who they are. She's mindblowing in that! She also has a short cover of "take on me" by Aha, and another more improv cover of Michael Buble's "feeling good" (she was on a live stream with another woman named Sasha Kapustina and someone requested that they sing that, so they did on the spot with NO preparation. It's an amazing performance in my opinion!)
Her rich polyphonic deep contralto stand up very well to big loud speakers. Be sure to play it loud in a big room to have a full body immersion in the quality of her timbre. Then do it again with her treatment of the Dune soundtrack. Mind boggling

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. This performance took place during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!” that started when Diana Ankudinova was 18, on September 25, 2021. She turned 20 years old on May 31, 2023, For this new “ShowMaskGoOn” competition Diana first round performance was her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”.
Early in her carrier, Diana has said she was unhappy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and that lack kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies, so along with her voice teacher she decided to concentrate extensively on improving and developing her upper vocal range because a female singers vocal range helps to determine and define her voice type. In 2017 when she was 13 years old, Diana’s vocal range was first measured and her vocal range then was measured from a low of D3 (lower alto range) to a high of A5 (upper alto range), which was unusually low for a 13 year old girl. During this “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, her vocal range was again measured and Diana’s functional vocal range now goes from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range), so she had defiantly improved her upper vocal range.
One of the most commonly asked questions regarding Diana’s unique voice is, how does she do it? How does such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, profound, and resonant sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to physically see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning Diana was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx, (voice box), likewise appears to be larger and similarly her laryngopharynx, (throat), also appears to be larger than the vast majority of female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity (mouth). It looks like it’s this combination of unique vocal anatomical structure that gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds she is known for, but without actually scoping her vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure.
For this new the “ShowMaskGoOn!” competition, Diana’s first performance was her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”. Lyric: The lyric contralto voice is lighter than a dramatic contralto but not capable of the ornamentation and leaps of a coloratura contralto. This class of contralto is lighter in timbre than the others. Dramatic: The dramatic contralto is the deepest, darkest, and heaviest contralto voice, and usually having a heavier tone and more power than the others. Singers in this classification are very rare.

Finally, the full depth and power of Diana’s voice during the final section define her as not just a Contralto, but as a “Dramatic Contralto” voice type. Her Dramatic Contralto has the low, deep, dark, rich sound and it is the most powerful of the contralto voice types and is the rarest of the very rare Contralto voice types. At the end of this performance, the full power of her Dramatic Contralto voice is on full display for everyone to hear. But it’s not just how low she can go, it’s in the exceptional quality of her tone in her upper range but especially in her lower range that makes her so very special. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound, along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance.
Diana Ankudinova has also mastered a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing. Mastering the polyphonic singing technique gives Diana the ability to create one, and sometimes two different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and can sound an octave above, or an octave and ½ above. During the “ShowMaskGoOn” Diana was competing against 8 other professional singers, Diana being the 9th competitor. Diana and the other singer's also doubled as judges for this competition which was televised over nine weeks, and each singer performed one song per week for the entirety of the 9 weeks. Diana and the other professional singers/judges were competing against each other, and based on their individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. Each week a different singer took center stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks using a different genre of music, and a different style for each song performed.
The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, the judge on the top row who was the first to stand is a well known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan, who, was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this inaugural competition. At the end of Diana's performance she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is also a well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia was in the center row, and dressed in in red, and looks totally lost at the end of Diana's performance. She puts both hands on top of her head, and looks totally shocked, lost and bewildered. Finally, The Show Must Go On competition concluded with Diana Ankudinova being awarded the most judging points over the total of 9 weeks, and was declared the competition winner!

When Ankudinova first came to broader attention in 2017, her range was measured as D3 to A5. As of September 2021, her functional range was measured as C3 to B♭5.Together with her tessitura, it identifies her potential voice type as dramatic contralto, the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice. As of August 2023 her upper range reached C3 to D6 in the song "The Day You..."

At age 18, she is performing for the first time in a contest with 8 other well known and established singing professionals. But,to truly understand her musical prowess, you might want to look back to her performances in the "You Are Super" series, an contest for underprivileged children who lived as orphans (as she did) for part of their lives. All are under 16. She entered at age 14 and swept the competition, as well as the "Champions" season the following year. One video of Diana's, in my sight, is a total masterpiece the like of which I don't remember ever seeing before in my long life. It's a must see for anyone that loves singing with unending emotion. The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life. She's the real deal with an incredible voice! She was sent to a Russian orphanage as a little girl after her alcoholic mother abused her. That's not a very nice place for a child, but she was adopted by a single mom and Diana's NEW LIFE began. She had very poor speech and her speech pathologist recommended singing as part of her therapy. Diana took to singing like duck to water. A Star was Born!

She is just VERY rare. She is a contralto, which is the lowest female voice. Cher is another example of a contralto, but she isn't as low. As you can see, Diana's mouth/throat is big. This is an advantage to her, it helps with the manipulation of the sound. 😊 (She has also had vocal training)
