  • NOTE: I will delete all Martha or other companion hate!!
    They were all great companions and I don't want companion hate on my Videos!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
    ANOTHER NOTE: I am aware that I forgot the "You had companions who could absorb the time vortex", "Not if you're blonde" and "Everyone but Rose" scenes!! THANK YOU. And I didn't mention the easter eggs in season 4 because we SAW her. It is a video about MENTIONING her. (Well, apart from the "Give me someone I like" scene. But it was just too cute!)
    Clips are from:
    3x00 - The Runaway Bride

    It always makes me so sad how little 11 mentions Rose... It's like the 50th anniversary. The one who regrets... and the one who forgets.

      ... Maybe it's the fact that I can't move on from Rose that makes me want the Doctor to never move on. Donna's the only other companion I've loved as much as Rose (haven't seen the classics yet).

      It's because Moffat wanted to move on and tell his own stories. RTD was kinda selfish in the way he wrote Rose.

    he was in love with rose. it has been confirmed by the writers and the actors themselves. there's a long meta-analysis about the extent to which the doctor relied on rose. the tenth doctor is the most "human" doctor because he was born out of rose's humanity. rose represents the tenth doctor's compassion, humanity, and happiness. he needed her too much. when he loses her, he starts to lose that humanity he had gained and becomes darker. season 3 - the end of time is the tenth doctor learning how to live without her. when he meets her again in season 4, he's in a healthier mental place, and he is able to let her go with the acceptance that she would be happy. it was the combined loss of all his companions that brought him to his own downfall. it's very interesting and very deep.

    I didn't like Donna at first because she kept bringing up Rose & hurting the Doctor's hearts but then she grew on me & now she's one of my favorite companions. Martha was ok; I don't love her 'cause she kept trying to make the Doctor love her when it was obviously not going to happen, but I don't hate her 'cause she was pretty bad ass and being bad ass always earns points in my book.

      It's hard not to love Donna, she was badass. The only one outside of Nardole and River that could kick the Doctor's ass. And the whole "I could sort out the Universe in 5 minutes, if I had more time" thing was just heartbreaking.
      I understand why they couldn't bring her back instead of Clara with that Time Lord moment-stopping-thingy, it would end the series right there, but logically they should have. She became more powerful than Rasillon himself!

      When I was watching the first episode with Donna I kept thinking "please, don't make her his new companion" because it looked like an obvious thing to happen but I really didn't like her, probably partially because of how much I liked Rose. But when she came back after Martha it was so good. That whole pantomime between Doctor and Donna right in the middle of spying on possibly dangerous people is just amazing and now Donna is one of my favorites ❤️

    There's also a scene in A Christmas Carol where Kazran asks the Doctor 'If you could spend one last day with your beloved, what day would you chose?' that correlates to his last day as 10, when he chose New Year, 2005, and went to see Rose.

      That's true, however the parallel being drawn was with a man and his lover. Also 'with your beloed,' rather than 'with your most loved,' or something. Beloved tends to mean 'in love with', rather than a loved one.

      ***** but thing is rose and 9 really showed the love. But soon as be regenerated. In the special she thinks 10 is just a stranger who replaced the doctor (sorta what the fans always think they judge every new fucking doctor and hate. Its annoying just cause he fucking changes doesn't mean hes not the doctor hes always the doctor no matter what)and then 10 had to basically reset the relationship with rose. But it would work with 11 too. Why? Not cause the personality its jsut him thats it. And also cause it started with 9. He left. Relationship continues with a new 10

    @gabbytaruc7441 10 лет назад +116

    I don't know, I think the reason why Ten was 'mistreating' Martha (pertaining to one of the comments on here) is because Rose has been there since the *first season* of the non-classic doctor, the one we learned to love. She's been such a significant part in the doctor's long life that she's one of the most loved companions by the doctor and she's gone now. Of course if you loved someone, you wouldn't forget her after two episodes of her gone, now would you? Of course the Doctor would keep his distance at first to Martha, since his hearts were basically torn apart after having to leave Rose in another dimension, and he (i think) can't cope with the fact that Rose is gone, so instead of crying and being like a human being, he pushes everyone away o conceal his emotions.
    Martha seemed really jealous of the Doctor and Rose's relationship, I didn't really like that about her but she was a good companion nonetheless.
    But I agree, she was good in season 3, but her in season four was quite terrible to say the least.

    1:06 That is an important piece of dialogue there, when he reflects on when he first spent Christmas with the Tylers (and Mickey)... Because nowdays he does this all the time, the Ponds had him over for real family situations and by s8, he practically lives in Clara's appartment and workplace... and that's what it's been like for most of the new series with him getting to meet most of the families... but Rose was the one who first "domesticated" him.
    Although in part, it's because most of the classic companions didn't have that many ties to their places of origin, they usually either had no families or were glad to get away from them.
    It was a telling little moment in DotD when the War Doctor, despite having already done plenty of gavillating around on places on Earth, was the only one of the three who had no idea what a cup-a-soup was, because, of course he didn't, that sort of thing you use on busy, boring days that aren't worth cooking properly? When'd he need one of these before, say, some day when he happened to be stuck at Jackie's or Sylvia's while they chatted with their daughter and got hungry XD

    If you look hard enough then you will see that there are tons of really descret mentions of Rose in seasons 5 and 6. Donna nearly killed me in the first episode with her. When we first meet her and she asked about Rose, I cried my eyes out and screamed at her, but I like her now! And I don't hate Martha. She was just..... different.

Martha was too busy being in love with The doctor and the doctor was too busy being lovesick about rose. He started to mention rose less in season 4 because Donna was a really good mate and she don't take any bullshit. She just sass him back! Martha's season was kinda a season to let the doctor heal from his loss

    Whenever they do a 'love' with the Doctor, we all compare it to Rose because that's the only love story with him we've seen. River we were only 'told' he loves her, and then they snogged a lot and had a shotgun wedding. We didn't see it develope or why he would love her. The Master he loves like a very hated brother. And everyone else he is good friends/mentor/brother/sister-like with. So... Yes. Rose is it.

      I get your point about 11 and River, that's why I don't really buy their relationship - it's just so seemingly random, just like River herself with her appearances in the show. And not everyone else is a friend, student or sort-of sibling to him. Explain the explosive yet simmering romance that 11 had with Clara. Clearly the best love story for the re-boot.

    Personally, I get neither this idea of Martha as a shallow, jealous resentful person, nor the notion that the Doctor somehow mistreated her. It was all a sad misunderstatement, really.
    Wether you're attracted to someone or not depends on a lot of factors in your life story and biochemical responses; It's neither a judgement on the other person's worth nor in any way an act of throwing one's self-respect away or having shallow ulterior motives; Sometimes it just happens and sometimes it doesn't.
    So just because she dares to have the hots for someone, (especially someone rather good-looking, funny and charming) she gets dismissed as a silly fangirl with no life? Seriously, Martha spends the whole season showing us what an independent, level-headed, badass and self-respecting person she is. Just see her reactions to the Master belittling her or Joan doubting that she could be a medical student; She showed those guys up and laughed in their faces. She could totally handle herself, think quickly and make herself supremely useful. Forwardly going to get what she wants with a guy and feeling annoyed when he keeps going on about someone else is just part of that; You have to keep in mind that she's a college student, not a young girl who just recently reached adulthood. She was a very patient, supportive and loyal friend who supported him a way different from Rose (Without either being "better" than the other - Though Rose could very much tell him to his face when she disagreed with him, the aesthetic employed was different, it was mainly played for her being pure and empathetic even toward a Dalek or something or offering a different POV) For example, Rose never found out what his home planet was called, knowing that it was a sore spot; Martha extracted an elaborate description from him because she wouldn't take bullshit/ felt she deserved that he be open and honest with her, and that was exactly what he needed at the time, someone who'd reach in and pull him from his shell wether he wanted to or not, who'd be like, "Stop the emo wannabe loner routine, either you give me a key and let me come with you for good, or don't."
    She was that sort of supportive friend you can always phone and depend on, and who'll tell you to get your shit together for your own good. Which was why he talked to her about Rose in the first place, because what does anyone do when they lose their girlfriend? Yes, go to their pals for support, which, of course, can backfire when they secretly have a crush on you that you're too dense to notice. But that she was able to partially put that aside and still gave him the support he needed should really speak for Martha's credentials as an unselfish supportive friend, not diminish them.
    She and Rose just came from very different backgrounds, (Rose with her pennyless single mother that taught her humility and empathy, and Martha with her large, noisy complicated family that taught her to take responsibility early on, she didn't have her parents all to herself) and therefore had different streghts; Not that Rose was in any way stupid, she made good use of the thinking capaity she had, but usually, her contribution to the episode would be to emphasize with, comfort, or get information out of the locals; Her cooler moments mainly accentuated her courage. With Martha, you could immediately tell that she's much more intelligent and able to come-up with strategies, and it was her ability to remain calm and function by herself that got to shine, although she did get scenes where she supports some local ladies, it was more in her usual function.
    And it's good that they're different, because if I wanted to see smeone like Rose again, I'd just go and rewatch s1 and s2 again. Trying new things keeps it interesting and varied.
    If Martha had not come in right when he was still all distraught, he probably would have been more receptive to her advances, although judging by the kind of things that frustrated her, Martha was probably looking for a different type of man anyways; Someone more proactive who'd show their feelings more openly.
    For all his charms, the Doctor's a socially inept, awkward/ oblivious guy with his head full of other concerns and a tendency to gloss over difficult things of that sort rather than talk them out, and if you wanna be with him, you sort of have to deal, which the various ladies have done in differing ways. Rose seemed to just accept it and seemed perfectly satisfied with their progression/ like it suited her as much as him, just as it was (although one could perfectly picture them winding up engaged eventually they hadn't been separated when they were, especially with the "I want to stay with you forever" line and the very next episode featuring a Wedding; The subject would just have come up in conversation.) River basically compensated by supplying the aggression that wasn't comming from his end by herself and since she's not the type to be tied down or owned by anyone, or otherwise plays by the rules, she doesn't expect that of him, either. And Clara just learned to read his little cues very well and which buttons she has to push to get the reactions she wants, although she doesn't always suceed... but, often enough; Although she has the advantage of thinking a lot like him to begin with.

    • @Meangrl19
      @Meangrl19 9 лет назад +2

      Actually, he did deliberately mistreat her and push her away. Even David Tennant and RTD confirmed these things. He wasn't much of a friend to her like he was with the others and that's where their season is more of an emo sob fest than the seasons he had with Rose or Donna. There was a purpose to it through that is lost on quite a few people. Martha got him to get past it and overcome that time in his life where he pushed people away because he was tried of caring about people and losing them-not only Rose, but Gallifrey, his companions, everything...so he needed someone but pushed Martha away so he wouldn't care about her and in the end he ended up caring about her either, but it was worse losing her because he never got to really know her and have good times with her like he did with Donna and Rose. Those sweet, heartwarming moments to comfort him in his dark times. However, this character change in his brought out a lot of great stuff for season 3. There was great character development because of this. Martha and him had this student-teacher relationship with her having a crush on the teacher type of thing and it lead to Martha struggling to constantly better herself which lead to her being an awesome companion and she helped the Doctor to move on from Rose without even realizing it. Season 3 is very complex with this storyline and the characters. It's worth the rewatch to go back and catch these things about their story. In the end, it all worked out for the best. Martha might have had to suffer, but it's those who suffer who get the opportunity to learn and become stronger and she certainly did. That's why the music when she leaves is called Martha Victorious. The Doctor is the one we should feel sorry for in the end-not getting to know his savior. Who saves him many times psychically and emotionally. But Martha, while mistreated, made it out better and kinder than everyone. She's not the one to feel sorry for. She got out of Rose's and the Doctor's shadow and proved she could be just as great as them.

    • @KendrixTermina
      @KendrixTermina 9 лет назад

      Meangrl19 I'd like to see links to the actual quotes; There's a lot of a difference between just having a hard time coming out of your shell/ opeing up to people after yet another dissapointment (which I never disputed) and anything you could call "deliberate mistreatment", with actual meaness or carelesness to it. Never blame on malice what you can explain with ineptitude.
      That they never had any good times at all and that there was nothing more than a pot of toxicity for her to overcome seems overly negative/ not fair to what we actually see in the episodes.
      Sure, there were some things about the situation that she wasn't okay with, or, she was just generally there to explore the scenario of a person who might certainly have an enriching experience and gush about the cool places she got to see, but might not necessarily want to do this her whole life/ want a break from the danger involved especially after that huge debacle with her family getting targeted (While Jackie couldn't stand our dear protagonist at all in the beginning and he didn't make much of an effort to get along with her and Mickey, things eventually worked out - but they might not have, and Martha got to get unlucky in that respect)
      Of course, Martha generally came from a background where she always had to put the needs of her large diffucult family before her own, and even though she saw a chance to take a break from that, she ended up in a bit of a similar dynamic anyways and had to learn to think of herself a little, too, and extricate herself from a situation when she felt it was just making her unhappy, or when she simply had enough upheaval/ hardship for a while.
      Personally, I didn't see anything that would steer anything in the direction of "teacher/student" either/ don't get where this idea comes from, he doesn't like, give her life lesson speeches or show her how to do stuff; Out of the new series companions Martha's probably the one who does the least in terms of aquiring skills or qualities simply because she already brought a lot of those with her, it just seems like a random label to slap onto it, it was more of, just more generically friends or at least 'comerade' or partners-in-crime, from the beginning she was like, "You gotta earn that title as far as I'm concerned", not, like, settling into any situation/dynamic where he'd be the authority in any way.

    • @Meangrl19
      @Meangrl19 9 лет назад

      When I find it, I'll send it your way. As far as the teacher/student dynamic, while he doesn't necessarily go out of his way to teach her things, she learns by watching him and applies it to how she saves people. It can't be denied that Martha had to stand on her own and save herself more than the others. That's not to say Rose and Donna did not at all, but Martha had more times where she had to stand up and be the Doctor and actually grow to be able to stand in his place and fill his shoes so to speak. Martha wasn't so perfect when she stepped in the tardis. To put it simply she had the book smarts but not the street smarts. Sure, she was clever and knew things Rose Tyler didn't like how to save someones life medically and what made a human body function, but that's about it. She had not grown up like Rose. She was shut out of the world by her mother, while Jackie let Rose run a lot more freely, as Rose was more of the adult in that dynamic[no offense to Jackie], Martha wasn't allowed to experience life the way Rose did, like having a serious boyfriend or be able to live dangerously with her mother around blocking her at every turn. She was not allowed to experience life first hand and that's what the Doctor gave her. The ability to finally live her life and explore and takes risks. She grew in that sense. Even though Rose was bored with her life, she had those chances in the past to make her own way in life and do things her way and take respsonsibly for herself ext, which Martha didn't have the opportunity to do till now. She also grew because she often had to stand alone in situations and think quickly to save herself or others. Which is a way that all of the companions grew, but Martha had to stand alone more without the Doctor guiding her or coming in quickly to save the day. She became the Doctor in her own right in that season, being able to save herself and the Doctor and that's why I say she way like the student becoming the teacher in her run as a companion. She was able to get out of Rose's and the Doctor's shadow. Also Martha suffered all this cruelty[I am referring to others not labelling the Doctor as being cruel] and it only made her kinder. It spurred her on to be better and fight them as the Doctor would. The Doctor did put her down and often didn't give her a chance to. For example, Shakespeare code when he told her you're a novice nevermind ill take you back home tomorrow. While calling someone a novice/new wasn't rude, especially since it was true, it was rude how he implied that Rose would know but since Martha was new she wouldn't. Didn't even give her a chance before blowing her off and then told her he was taking her back home. He also held off on giving her the tardis key for a while that's why Martha was in awe of it when she finally got it. He was always telling her he was going to take her back home/pushing her away. he didn't constantly do that to other companions like Rose and Donna. I understand why he did it and I feel for him, but he did treat Martha badly compared to the others. I want to be clear: I do not mean that he abused her or was violent with her; I simply mean he pushed her away and ignored her a lot more than the others. I understand why he did it, but that doesn't make it all right and he did have a lot less friendship scenes with her than with the others. Martha's season was a lot more emotional than Rose or Donna's because there wasn't constantly drama coming from both of them. I'm not complaining it made the story deeper, but still, it was a lot more emotional. It had to be for Martha to get him to open up about his feelings and get him to move on though. That's another way the student became the teacher. Martha got him to open up and move on from Rose[not get over her]just move on and she also taught him[unintentionally] not to take another companion for granted. I want to be clear that I don't mean the Doctor was abusing her, they just had less fun/silly times together. Then again, what makes a friend? Having fun silly times together or having those deep talks like how the Doctor felt about Gallifrey. Sorry, my ramblings lead to realizations sometimes. I guess Martha and him are only equally as close as the others are with him because she was his support and a bit of his therapist that season getting him to move on from things, but their friendship was based on that, their drama, instead of being giggly together like he was with Rose and Donna. When the Doctor looked back on his times with his companions, he could have those giggly playful moments to look back on with Rose and Donna, but not with Martha.

    I kept wishing that David would be the doctor for ever (no more reincarnations) and that rose would be with him and their love would grow stronger and blah blah blah. But the show must go on and it is after all a scifi series and not a romantic drama. But David Tennant will always be "the" doctor to me.

      Suspect it means some Timelords rather than companions, I think Galifreys not going to make an appearance til series 9 but the Timelords probably will. Allot of people myself included reckon Missy is the Master in a female regeneration.

    there was one small scene missing, but it's okay
    it was the one from series 4, "Midnight", where while he's testing the abilities of the creature that possessed that woman he says: "Bang! Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, TARDIS"

    Doesn't anyone else want to know what Rose and Doctor 2 do in the parallel universe? Do they both start working for Torchwood or just running off doing their own thing? I really want to know cause now the Doctor (even if he is half-human) is stuck on one planet (which hasn't happened since his UNIT days) and he's probably gonna get bored unless he finds something.

      There was a cut scene, when Rose and Doctor 2 were left in the parallel universe. I the scene 10 game Doctor 2 a piece of the TARDIS to grow a new one. The scene was cut due to not fitting the tone. The cut scene is someone here on RUclips.

    that episode, The Family of Blood 3:59 ..it was well thought of but i hate the fact that in that episode the doctor became human (he forgot everything about being a timelord, everything) and fell inlove with a woman whom he saw his future with. he saw himself marrying her, having kids and even getting old. like, when he became a timelord again, he asked her to come with him and be his companion. i mean, come on if she said yes, what about martha? glad she did not. and although i love rose more than anyone, i felt pretty sad for martha in that episode i even cried.

      I think he felt guilty about giving her hope, that they could live happily together so he felt obligated to ask her to come with him if nothing else.

    Something I’ve noticed is that a lot of people really hate Rose, mostly due to the romantic aspect of her and the Doctor’s relationship. Which sucks for me, because I only fell in love with the show recently, (around the same time the coronapocalypse hit,) and I found her to be an incredibly well thought out character. She relates to the audience enough so that we can empathize with her and see this universe through her eyes, plus, because I wasn’t able to start with Classic Who, I was introduced with Eccleston, and didn’t see anything wrong with the Doctor falling in love. So as I found out after exploring the fandom, that this absolutely adorable relationship that I’d been rooting for, and watching grow, and change, and eventually fall away, was DESPISED by many fans.
    Then again, I also really like Whittaker, so maybe I’ll just enjoy anything.

      I know this is a relatively old comment, but I feel like a lot of people were bothered by Rose because they thought it was unrealistic for the Doctor to fall for a 19-year-old human. Which... I understand. But at the same time, I always liked their relationship. I thought it made sense in context. The Doctor at that point in history was broken, and the pain of having, as he perceived it, destroyed his entire people, weighed heavily on him. Rose and her family made him feel like he had a place to belong, if only for a while. But he also knew that it couldn't last, and so it gave their relationship kind of a poignant twist. Being with her made him long for the one thing he believed he could never have --- a home to return to.
      While I wouldn't consider myself a HUGE fan of the Eleven era, I always found it kind of fitting that he found Rory and Amy and River. They actually DID become his family and helped to at least somewhat fill a gaping hole in his heart for many years.

    that was 8 minutes of pain I was not ready for. the agony of him, in the runaway bride, lost her seconds before and its there, every second, barely even speak about her and looks like he might breakdown any second. and poor Martha, always seemed to be in her shadow despite the fact she very clearly was obsessed with him. that last scene though, just Donna telling him to tell her himself and he turns and sees her, we don't see her but he does and its beautiful

    In series 4 on the episode Midnight,if you look on the background of the television you can see rose trying to get the doctors attention but fails to get it
