This was a period of the Doctor's life where he REALLY needed to be checked every so often. This was honestly one of his most healthy friendships. Donna did NOT let him get away with anything, and I think he seriously appreciated that.
exactly!!! She was exactly what he needed at this point
she didn’t put up with his shit
Tbf, it's often been shown in the new series that the doctor *always* needs companions to stay grounded. Doesn't matter the period, whenever he travels alone for too long, he loses touch and starts going bad. And it's implied that's even why River can't travel with him, because she couldn't be that stabilizing influence, or why he and Clara had to split ultimately because she too was becoming too similar to him instead of a standard companion, which was unhealthy.
The 10th Doctor, threatening another irredeemable alien race with total destruction they probably deserve: I am the last Time Lord, a God of this universe, you will kneel and beg for my mercy
Donna: Oh, a god now, is it? Mr "Trips over his own shoelaces because he's attempting to walk, and eat a banana at the same time"? That's godlike behaviour, is it? Supreme celestial being are you? Couldn't remember the word 'floor' last week, called it the 'bottomy-underneathy-thing' but you're all powerful and all knowing? Got emotional thinking about the concept of playgrounds yesterday but yes, you're truly merciless and unknowable. Didn't know I was in the presence of the Almighty, blimey, should've told me.
Doctor: ....
Donna: Yeah, that's what I thought. Prat.
Every so often, yes. That is the companion's whole purpose, but along with that, they are supposed to keep him believing in himself. It seemed to me, so much of the time, that Donna never passed up an opportunity to make the Doctor look or feel small. IMHO of course. There's a big gap between keeping the Doctor's overdrive in a lower gear and belittling him to make your insecure self feel better. Even Donna lovers have to admit she was written to be constantly insecure and lacking confidence in herself. But there are better ways to build self-confidence than doing so at someone else's expense. I liked Donna except when she did that.
Donna is the reason why I want pockets on my wedding dress. You never know when you’ll get teleported away.
Agreed. Any dress without pockets is dead to me.
My prom dress was eighty bucks and had pockets
My male brain doesn't understand this whole issue. Why don't all wedding dresses have pockets? Moreover, why do most women's jeans have fake pockets? WOMEN NEED TO HOLD THINGS.
@@nicholasbradshaw People assume women will always take a bag with them, but sometimes you don't want to lug a big bag around just for a few things. We need pockets too.
My mom's wedding dress has pockets! it's very lovely!
I love the way Donna admits the Doctor is pretty. The "...ehh" is exactly the way a friend would say basically "You are attractive physically, but not to me personally". It really fits their relationship.
It just occurred to me that Donna and 12th Doctor would be a proper explosive combination.
And Donna and Nine honestly lol
And Donna and Eleven lol
@@robertk2194 that just won’t be a fair fight😭
"You're Scottish now! We have SO many things to complain about."
Oof. Donna and 12? Proper terrifying. Daleks, Cybermen, and even the Master wouldn't stand a chance.
I love how she was someone who was genuinely impressed and in awe of the beauty of all of time and space, but realized other than the fact that hes an alien and the time machines driver, the doctor isnt any more special than she is. People come into the tardis and believe the Doctor is this timeless man who is almost like a God. But Donna knew he was just like anyone else, minus the two hearts and extra life span.
Exactly. And yet at the same time, because of her mother’s abusive behavior, she still didn’t think she was all that special. Not because the Doctor is more special than the whole of humanity, but because she felt she didn’t have anything worthwhile to give the way the Doctor did…. And she worked so hard at every turn while she was with him to prove her mettle. Still heartbroken that the one moment she finally gets to truly prove it to herself as the Doctor Donna, she loses it all almost immediately.
@@azureflametarotoh man. That ending for Donna hurt so much. I really hope she gets a better ending in the 60th anniversary episodes.
She felt very... real. a great audience surrogate.
@@lealu83So far, so good!
@@lealu83 you know what... they both have. It's really great.
I love the fact that Donna doesn't go fully "No romantic feelings or attraction" for 10, she admits he's pretty, at the very least, they're just not even remotely compatible romantically, which is good because as friends, they're the best!
you mean like.. friends?
@@spongmongler6760 I mean like none of the companions in new Who before Bill (I assume, haven't seen it all)
@@lidge1994 that relies on innacurate information such as definition of a companion, the nature of regenerating and just being wrong.
cptn jack was a mhore but other than that is the same as what you described.
Honestly I think the best part of it is that David Tennant and Catherine Tate's IRL friendship played a really big part with their on-screen chemistry. In a sense they really were just two best friends going on some crazy adventures and just having a blast. Also them being a team really made me love season 4 as a whole because I love Rose as a companion I liked Martha except her attraction for the doctor kind of threw me off and I'm still going through season 6 with Amy and Rory except for season 5 Amy which threw me off especially when she tried to do it with the doctor but it's why I love season 4 the most because they were the best duo in terms of just having fun and just being great friends.
I honestly think the reason she makes fun of him “being skinny” all the time is because she’s actually quite attracted to him, admits she thinks he’s handsome on a number of occasions, but he just lost Rose and she just got betrayed hardcore by the groom at her wedding (he was literally willing to feed her to a space spider woman thingy, from Donna’s perspective), and she doesn’t feel like she’s nearly as phenomenal and special as the Doctor. She knows deep down being human is special enough but I really think she always felt like she was afraid to get too close because she’d have her heart broken by this incredible man who couldn’t possibly see in her what she sees in him. So yes she humbles him when his ego gets too large and his rage too uncontrolled, which is healthy for him after having is ego inflated too much with Rose, but… those same fears he had with Rose (she couldn’t entirely accept he was regenerating timelord whose form would change and he’d outlive her by many many years), he feared Donna would reject the same thing. So they both had to be friends because they were both scared of getting too close, both for their own insecurities. When Donna finally became metacrisis Doctor Donna, she felt finally on the same level as him, she really did want to stay with him forever…. Who knows what their relationship could have become if they stayed together longer. Unfortunately because of the metacrisis, Donna’s time got cut short
Donna Noble was the only companion who called him on his nonsense. She wasn’t all starry eyed and following behind him holding his coattails. Noble kicked him in the rear and reminded him that her humanity trumped his Time Lord-ity.
Rory
Martha eventually
Nardole had a good sense of self-worth and doctor-judging. All the best companions did.
@@bitlost2809Rory is a character we're not supposed to take seriously though. Besides, the way the 11th is portrayed is like a fairytale character come to life. There's a lot of idolisation in his portrayal that Rory was never able to make a dent in.
I feel like Bill and Nardole did a bit. As a tag team they nearly matched Donna
"Tardis, time lord, yeah"
"Donna, human, no"
Takes me out every single time 😅
“STOP BLEEPIN’ ME”
@@BirdieNoodle OMG I SAW YOUR COMMENT THE EXACT MOMENT DONNA SAID THAT IN THE VIDEO LMAO
the amount of times that she leaves him SPEECHLESS from insult is amazing
he looks so freaking butthurt when she says "you've got a box, he's got a ferrari!"
one of my absolute favorite things about their dynamic is their strange dichotomy of being just a little too codependent while also being probably the most individual team up in the entire show. they’re two very independent and equal characters, yet at the same time donna would rather die than lose ten and when donna’s memory is wiped ten actually goes insane. it’s fascinating
This is such an accurate analysis and I love it (and I hate it at the same time😭)!
Ooooh I never thought about it like that!! Well said!
400th like
That's so accurate. They both became the best version of themselves thanks to the other, that's why the way they get separated is so tragic.
Their brother/sister vibe is something I desperately miss. I really think the Doctor needs another companion like this. Siblings, friends, and platonic soulmates.
Ruby and 15 have that dynamic imo, their chemistry has been so good since episode 1!
@@jaimie1938nah not enough, Ruby needs more teeth, hoping she’s have them next season
@@billiepotts1541we’ve already seen her save the world by herself, so she’s got teeth
The comedy bit about the mate is actually really good writting. We had just experienced two companions in a row with a romantic subplot with the Doctor, and they were also the only two since the reboot at this point. The bit with the mate communicate perfectly that no, that won't be the case this time, when some might have assumed so otherwise
Yep! Right from the first episode of her traveling with him :)
Absolutely!!
It was also a very clever play on words.
As someone with a moderate British dialect, I use "Wanna" as both "want to" and "want a" and hearing it taken the wrong way was f-kin’ *hilarious* !
I burst out into such ferocious laughter that I couldn’t even take the time to pause the show. It just kept playing as I sat there crying, laughing until my belly cramped.
I love the relationship between the the tenth doctor and donna noble! Two best friends travelling in the tardis, rescuing civilisations, defeating terrible creatures, and doing an awful lot of running! ❤️❤️😊😊
Couldn't agree more!
seriuosly there is an outrages amount of running
THE DOCTORDONNA
I love how both the characters and the actors complain about how much running they do
Meta-Crisis Doctor acting like Donna is by far the funniest thing ever. Wish we had more of Donna Noble. She was a blast and a half of a character.
Wish granted… soon. 😁
If you're looking for more Donna and Ten while we wait for the 60th anniversary I recommend the audio dramas, they're really good and have some great moments between the two of them, only downside is you have to buy them.

PFFT!
Yep! Put that quote on a shirt with Donna’s face.
Priceless.
"I-I'm not from mars" that line is always hilarious 😂
This is why Donna was my favourite companion for 10, he needed this.
Imagine 12th Doctor and Donna roasting each other.
Epic battle, far greater and more damaging to spacetime than time war itself.
Maybe that's where he got his personality 😮
@@YaoiAngel00 well his accent is Peter Capaldi's tribute to David Tenant so it makes sense that Peter would also play his Doctors personality as a tribute to Donna as well. 10 and Donna, The Doctor and Companion who where there during Peters first appearance on the show.
It literally is though. He chose that appearance because of Donna, remember? We had that nice little flashback to Pompeii. Volcano Day. "Just save someone. Anyone." The way things ended with 11, I think he really needed that reminder.
And Donna will make sure that he understands that "save someone" doesn't mean "make sure nobody's dead" so he won't be dealing with Lady Me.
a few episodes after she's gone and can't humble him anymore, he goes all Time Lord Victorious
Exactly. This is what he needed
Donna was SO important to be with the doctor at that time. He needed someone to balance him out and keep him in check.
The moment she left, boom, time lord victorious.
“She’s engaged you prawn” 😂 calling someone a prawn might be my new favourite friendly insult
"You've got a box, he's got a Ferrari!"
I love that line. The Doctor's TARDIS is easily the most powerful and wondrous spaceship in all of creation, with literally hordes of villains who would love to either have it for themselves or destroy it, but because it _looks_ unimpressive, Donna teases the Doctor about it being crap.
Donna rules. She is so unimpressed by the Doctor and his world. She's so brilliantly human.
Honestly, Donna and the Doctor had more chemistry than even Rose and the Doctor. They behave like an old married couple but also they should always stay friends, it fits their dynamic much better
Old married couple is such a vibe for them. I get why its not a thing plot wise, but they had such wonderful chemistry.
Eleven wouldn't last A DAY with her. She'd made him cry god bless
"you know what you are? great big outer space dunce!" is my favorite donna noble line lmfao
"What are you?"
"An idiot sandwich"
The Doctor deserves Donna’s confusion about the “mate” thing. He could have easily just said “friend” and completely avoided the misunderstanding.
2:24 isn’t really her humbling him. It’s Donna telling the Doctor that she fully believes he can be an amazing father and those feelings and longing for a family are still there inside him. It’s quite a lovely moment
Yeah I love that moment too! I put it in this video because a) she says it in kind of a tongue in cheek way and b) She's always helped ground him and I think this scene is a still a perfect example, abet in a different way/tone than the moments in the rest of the video, of her doing just that. She's once again telling him what he needs to hear, in a way that some of his other companions probably wouldn't argue with him on. He's making a sweeping statement about how he can never be the same as he was before he lost his children, can never be a good father to Jenny. Here she once again tells him that he can be better and it works. After this he accepts Jenny. Donna continuously makes him question his viewpoints for the better. Sure some of these moments of her "humbling him" are funny or her insulting him, but overall, her "humbling him" was forcing him to look at himself and his ways of doing things and reflect. After losing her is when he became Time Lord Victorious. Never would have happened if Donna was still at his side. The humbling, for me, was never a bad thing but something Ten really needed at this point in his tenure. Moments like this demonstrate perfectly why her presence was so good for him.
@@kcchameleonprodz And good for all of us as well, a lot of people loved Rose & Martha, but Donna was my fave and what you wrote above is all the reasons why.
Which episode is this scene from?
@@emilytylova3795 the doctors daughter
You. Are. **jazz hands** BONKERS!
No-one could have played Donna Noble as well as Catherine Tate did - what an icon.
This us why Donna was my favorite companion. She called him out on his bullshit and also managed to be a great friend. I also loved how they never forced a romance between her and the Doctor and that made their dynamic even more fun to watch.
*POCKETSSS*
such an iconic queen, donna noble
I think Donna was a good refresher. Like, most of the companions ended up liking the doctor romantically, but this is just pure plutonic awesomeness.
My favorite line of them is
“Oi Watch it space man”
“Oi Watch it earth girl”
Donna was my favorite companion for 10 for so many reasons
1. Catherine Tate and David Tennant exist on the same comedic wavelength, which really helped the BFF dynamic
2. Donna is so fundamentally human in that she does all the silly ignorant stuff that any human would do if they suddenly found themselves on an alien planet or another era in history, which is very relatable
3. there was never any romantic tension between them which was honestly kind of refreshing after Rose and Martha(don't get me wrong, I love those two, but the unrequited love thing has never been my favorite trope)
4. as 10 said, he just wanted a friend, and that's exactly what he needed at this time, after being rejected by or left by or being forced to give up his last few companions, I could really feel his loneliness and how he just needed someone to laugh with and experience the universe with, and Donna was perfect for that
Rewatching these scenes make me even more excited to see her and 14 in the 60th. Despite the Doctor having gone through a lot and grown so much since they parted, I hope she gets the opportunity to smack sense into him again. because he’s the Doctor and if 14 is gonna be keeping any characteristics from 10, plus being in a post-regeneration state, he’s DEFINITELY gonna need Donna’s no nonsense humbling.
Bring on the reunion of the space siblings! (and grandad ‘cause Wilf will be there too)
unfortunately the actor for wilf's character already passed away. :(
Hey have you seen the Specials?!?! What do you think?? 🤩
@@princessthyemis Still weeping. Probably never will stop.
‘You’re not mating with me, sunshine’….then of his 3 companions, he & Donna are the ones who produce offspring of a sort… the meta Doctor.
Kinda ironic.

@@SilentRaven8 no. talking about the meta crisis Doctor; born of an exchange of dna from her & his hand.( the stolen earth/journey’s end)

2:03 is the funniest thing i've ever seen. The way 10's pride was hurt and scratched the back of his head in embarrasment is too good
Yesss!!!!
i can't express how excited i am for the christmas special with these two
I ship these two platonically, I adore their chemistry and wish we got to see more of it, if I could lock these two characters in a jar and shake it around, I may consider it... I wouldn't actually do that though that would be very cruel.
1:00 This, Doctor, is why us north americans use the word "Friend".
Rose was 10’s heart, Martha was 10’s backbone… and Donna was the one who made sure 10 was THE Doctor
I think, especially compared to the arrogance of 11, Donna was one of the few companions I can think of that wholely kept the Doctor in check. Sure they all help ground him and help with perspective, but Donna is one of the only that consistently did not buy into the hype. He could do really clever things, but he can just as if not more often be a real dunce. Donna was a practical, no nonsense, independent, working class woman. While the Doctor is checking databases and looking at the whole world, she checks the time off folder to see no one ever took a sick day. Sure he can hack into what we're told is the most advanced yadda yadda in the universe with his magic sonic wand, but can you honestly say he would have thought to check that?
Catherine Tate is so fucking funny and one of the biggest tragedies is that she was only there for 1 season, and even then she wasn't all too many episodes for her to shine. Donna Noble is my favorite companion, because she truly felt like a friend. And friends make sure to call you out on your bullshit, which she always did
There was a period in my life where if anyone annoyed me I’d tell “ TO HELL WITH YOU” and then giggle like a maniac 🤣🤣
Donna is the irrefutable best companion of the NuWho era, and anyone who disagrees is objectively wrong and may personally fight me.
Bold words when Rory Pond exists
@@catp5759 He was Amy's companion, not The Doctor's. Doesn't count. But I'd have been willing to concede and call it a draw, if he were qualified to compete for the top spot.
I'd argue River Song is the best. Although that also depends on your definition of "companion"
I hated... HATED the idea of Catherine Tate being in Doctor Who.
I WAS SO GLAD I was wrong.. She became (and still is to this day) my favourite companion.
And the fact that she got to reprise her role AGAIN... Amazing..
"I just wanna mate"
"You want to mate?"
" you aint matin with me sunshine"
3:35 yknow, i wonder if the writers thought of this scene when they gave Matt Smith that wonderful line of “in all my hundreds of years I’ve never met someone who wasn’t important before.” Character development across two completely different versions of the same character. Simply brilliant
We all love the relationship between the Doctor and Donna because of the fact that we relate to it so much in our daily routine. Compared to previous companions who were there for the hangout for the most part, not to mention developing a platonic love relationship in the short term, Donna seemed like that one friend that would be presented to us in time of crisis, in a time where we actually needed help.
Best part about Donna is how she's so open and honest about how much she absolutely loves The Doctor, while also being honest about how he's 100% nit her type and she's grossed iut by the idea of them as anything more than friends
Donna was 10th perfect companion, just as the Ponds were for 11 and Clara for 12, as much as i loved each of them, if you had stuck the Ponds with 10 or Donna with 12 i don't think it would have worked out.
I don't know Donna with 12 could be interesting 😂😂🤔
The Ponds with 10 might've been actually lethal levels of sass. Especially if Tennant's Scottish roots bled through.
The concept of having companions who are married is interested, but...what did they add to 11??? I don't remember and I think that says something about how memorably--or not memorably--they were written, and I couldn't stand Amy. She was so rude and disrespectful, always chasing after the Doctor when she *was already married*! 😑
I love their dynamic so much. It was really refreshing to see two friends, it really reminds me of myself and my own best friend.
Loved Donna so much. She kept the Doctor grounded.
Oh how I miss his best friend. She was really everything.
You should've seen how I cried when the 60th stuff was all first revealed. Donna and the Doctor, at it again.
absolutely my favorite companion of all the ones ive seen so far, love her so much :]
I think the reason why i loved this pairing so much is cause she just treated him like a normal dude. Like an equal. She wasnt just some awestruck puppy following him around
They had the best chemistry like of anyone they are such a joy to watch on screen in every scene
This is a dynamic we need to see more often in doctor who, it’s so fun 😂
This is exactly what the doctor needs! I would take Donna Noble instead of a young simpering fool following them around like a lost "in love" puppy any day.
I can´t wait until november!. RTD better give her her happy ending instead of using her, again to give his new creator´s pet another happy ending.
I always see Donna and The Doctor as like siblings or at least half siblings and they act like siblings fighting when they sass each other 😭
This is the difference between a love interest and a best friend.
One of the few who understood the doctors pain behind the facade like when she pulled the lever too. Truely a strong companion
Doctor Who will never feel the same anymore, regardless of whether RTD is back as the showrunner.
There was just something magical about the 2005-10 era.
I love their friendship to the edge of a million universes and back
The 10th doctor was going through a very tough time and definitely needed Donna to keep him grounded and support him. Without Donna he would have crumbled just like he did after he had to wipe Donna’s memory in the episodes to follow.
They have *such* good chemistry together! They just sparkle!!
0:18 "Don't you ever change" This kills me 😂😂😂
Doctor Who is a cartoon character 😂😂😂
Great dynamic.😅
The best!
Doesn’t matter how smart the doctor is, Donna will make him seem like a raging idiot.
Mind you, Donna is also the one who said
“The on switch, you need three fingers!”
The doctor: “You have three fingers?”
“Oh yeah!”
Donna remains one of my all-time favourite Companions. She was so great. ❤
Donna will always be my favorite companion!
She was good for him, straightforward and blunt. She didn't let him get away with anything but still cared for him.
From the second I saw the title I was expecting Charity Martha
This is the best depiction of a platonic couple. The doctor is at least flirty with most of his companions. Especially the young ones. So Donna was a strong contrast. But if you think of most fictional attractive male and female duos of romantic compatibility (like age and stuff), there is always some romantic undertone. Mainly no writers write a male and female lead having romance in mind. But the doctor is almost always male and his primary companion is always female. He can't get romantic with all of them because neither he nor the companion stay for long. Only when Whitaker took over did she get multiple companions of equal companionness and the fact there was multiple and they came at the same time meant none stood out. Like Smyth had Amy Pond primarily and then Rory joined. I never watched past Whitaker's first season so I don't know if the rumour is true that she got with the police lady or not. It was only relatively recently that the companions were thought to be attractive human women. The doctor's first companions was his Galifrayan granddaughter and her human science and history teachers.
I'm looking forward to them reuniting ❤️
There has never been, and will never be, a better Dr. Who companion than Donna Noble. There, I've said it.
1:51 I hope that’s how they bring Donna back. Like her daughter is rummaging to find something and finds this single key that Donna kept for some reason
Donna was so wonderfully different to Rose and Martha.
I stopped watching dr who so many years ago but I miss these 2 so much that I might start rewatching
I love Donna so much and her character. She was the perfect kind of character to give the doctor because his ass needed to be checked CONSTANTLY.
Donna is the reason why wedding dresses now have pockets
Before Donna, I really didn't like Catherine Tate that much, but holy shit she blew it out of the park with her character and I'm so so excited to see her again
At the end: "She didn't mean it like that."
