I knew a guy who worked for Mercedes, he was tasked to deliver a Unimog to an airport for aircraft tug work, when it was serviced they couldn't work out why it had a twisted chassis. During the delivery trip he fell asleep at the wheel, left the motorway plunged down an embankment into a farmers field, cool as mustard rejoined the motorway, washed down the vehicle delivered the vehicle no-one the wiser. Really enjoyed this video.
Michael is a very cool guy & the vehicle is beautifully set up. I really appreciate the time taken to explain to us & show us. The unimog is set up very differently to how I imagine I would prepare one for overland adventures....but that is what makes this clip so interesting.
I've spent more time camping and living outside than in a house. I could easily sell everything(except guns) and love inn that beautiful beast. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
That was great! My old conceptual physics teacher from highschool was into Unimogs, I think he had 2 or maybe 3 at one time. He had his running off bio diesel he made himself
Cool, I drove a Unimog many years in the armed as my mechanic truck. Think it is the loudest vehicle I ever driven. But I never got stuck in a mudd hole.
My Dream vehicle learned to drive a tractor first then got to drive one been a dream motor but not usable on our roads here in the UK thank you for taking your time and sharing you need to see the latest amg unimog black edition/Unimog BRABUS U500 Black Edition.
Great video! I love Unimog's, almost bought one in 2004. Just the base machine started @90k in my estimation worth every penny but till you got done with attachments and options it was more like 120k. I would of had to sell to many of my other toys and decided against it. Older used Mog's can be had for around 20k. They are the king of cool! I appreciate all your video's. Thanks, Dave
This one had a very Overland Bound kind of vibe to it. Very cool, super informative. And I like that you included that blooper of forgetting to record toward the end lol
I have a 1982 1300 L Unimog that is upgraded in many ways and is turned in to an expedition truck. It's standing on a piece of land in Spain, because of the stupid panic that governements all over the world have put in sheeplles minds, that stop driving vehicles will turn back the ever changing climate of this planet. I live off grid in it and building at the moment a 10 meter tiny house on a semi trailer. One of the items that I have custom builded myself are freewheels on the front axle to save feul and the reductions in that front axle. Turbo, better engine cooling etc... The living unit is one piece polyester reinforced glassfiber and not mounted sandwich panels. Sleeping above the cabin with a roof there that moves up 25 cm to stay close to 2,5 m hight. Because a Unimog cabin has to tilt forward to work on the engine etc. the living unit tilt backwords as dumptrucks do.... Oeps, dump the old trucks..... what's comming out of those exhaust's gives you a dirty noose, the newest engines give fine dust that go's deep in your lungs. I'm 70 now and arguing about what ever with guy's who know everything is a waste of time. In the EU we have summer and winter time, means that twice a year the clock's have to move one houre back or forward. After more then 40 years finally , the EU governement accepts the realety that the dessison then taken , was wrong. Maybe in 40 years from now, driving my Unimog will be accepted again... :-) . No problem, a Unimog will do it even much later....
I have a 406 1975 Case unimog My mog is used for weed control it has spray booms on the front, a 500 gal tank on back I remove passenger door for visibility, I use RR guide wheels when I spray on RR tracks, the spay booms are operated by hydraulic from the cab, boom moves up down and side to side. I run a Royer brush shredder on the front or a 8' hammer knife on the rear for mowing weeds. transmission 20 speeds forward 8 speeds reverse top speed 45mph, not near as nice as the Doka, that on your video.
IVECO 4x4 truck in Canada used from Canadian Army also with the portal axles, probably better mpg than your 4Runner today loaded. There are also a few Unimogs for sale in Canada cause they used them in the Prairie farms and forestry industry. I have the Unimog 2017 catalog here if needed cause it took me 6 months to get it from Germany in snail mail.
Jason Koertge VERY reliable, this weekend I'll send you my brochures for Unimogs, you can only buy a 20 year old one for use in North America unless you buy one else where and register it as a less than one six month in a year use for traveling.
great video, Jason! You DID look a little cramped in the DOKA's cab, lol. Btw, how tall are you? Just wondering for a point of reference (I'm 6'2"). They are amazing machines!
Check out Container Locks - nothing anyway special, used everywhere on the world for carrying.... exactly Just thinking out the the US box: there is more than pickups. Bigger trucks CARRY stuff, not tow. Like containers e.g.
Yes, the older Unimogs (round fronts) are not made for taller people. The square box units (from 1979 on) were considerably more comfortable and head room can certainly accommodate you. In typical weird Mercedes style both types of Unimog were built at the same time so it is a little confusing.
Dude, flashing words on the video really needs to be there more than a millisecond. I had to rewind 3 times to read the words...frustrating! Otherwise great video as usual.
First off, great video! Been following for a couple months now. Binged watched videos 1-38 in like three days. If memory serves me correct, when editing, just stretch the word overlay across how many seconds you want it stay on the screen.
The Unimog has a verry flexible chassis that keeps the wheels always on the ground tougheter with the long traveling springs; you can put a 50 cm high block under the left front wheel and one under the right back wheel and it's still on four. Try that with a tractor or utillety truck. BUT, indeed, the Unimog is not made for the high-way but for all kinds of(f) raods, what makes it 99,99999999 % of the earth surface . ( if the snorkel is high enough, water is also not a problem, mine has a bit of over-pressure in axles, lights etc from the moment the 4x4 is ingaged, so that the water never gets inside those items )
Needs a YETI lith-Ion pack on the solar...Fridge? On a round the world trip bit of a 1st world luxury but not the most practical option. When you are stuck you cannot go forward, because of that frontbox.
"If this truck gets stuck, trust me you dont want to go forward." This comment made me loose all respect for this guy. He seemed very reasonable and experienced but all of a sudden he seemed like someone who built the truck to take to overland shows. If your going in and you get stuck and you want to go back out, yes you only need a rear winch but if your going out and get stuck (having to go up a hill you went down/mud hole that is easier going in than going out/dry going in, wet going out) if you have no front winch, you are going to have to winch out of the situation, turn around and winch through the obstacle backwards to get home. Makes no sense to anyone who has actually done any real off roading.
That is the biggest load of crap unimog. My 4runner has more purpose than that thing. No camper, way too much storage and not even a proper roof top tent. Seriously how much equipment do you freakin need. $80-100k into the build did he even think to add a $1500 proper tent?

I passed this Unimog last night on the NYS Thruway near the Junius Ponds Service Area. Looks like Michael is on another adventure.
Sweet unimog. Lot of custom work ....love it. And the fully engineered $2 tent strapped on to the roof. The best part.
Try more like $500+

see He could just make meth and buy whole unimog dept from mercedes, but he chose to invent bio diesel recipe..
Man you have the end of the time machine, very cool truck for traveled around the world
Cool, I drove a Unimog many years in the armed as my mechanic truck. Think it is the loudest vehicle I ever driven. But I never got stuck in a mudd hole.

Just finished bingeing on all your videos, keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next one
Love how Mercedes uses super flexy c channel and domestic use super stiff boxed frame. Way to go Mercedes

That’s a lush truck. No problem with video length
Good video, thanks for sharing!
Nice job done on your unimog dok a . Bravo !

Stephen Bradley wow! Those look awesome! Pretty reliable?
Jason Koertge VERY reliable, this weekend I'll send you my brochures for Unimogs, you can only buy a 20 year old one for use in North America unless you buy one else where and register it as a less than one six month in a year use for traveling.
1/10th scale unimog, CR-01 Tamiya, sweet
Another great video!
I hope you done a video on the red van next to you guys
Awesome thanks
You can get those Unimogs military surplus. I really want one.
This guy is pretty cool
great video, Jason! You DID look a little cramped in the DOKA's cab, lol. Btw, how tall are you? Just wondering for a point of reference (I'm 6'2"). They are amazing machines!
Cool beans!
Today I’m going to interview safety sally....
Check out Container Locks - nothing anyway special, used everywhere on the world for carrying.... exactly
Just thinking out the the US box: there is more than pickups. Bigger trucks CARRY stuff, not tow. Like containers e.g.
Unimog!!
Hanx Heez Unimog!!
Should have taken that on the course and see how it would do.
This thing is so mean looking and HUGH to bad I'm 6'3. This would be awesome to own.
Does anyone know when they started using electronics in the Unimog? The last pre-computer modules year?
Nice Belikin bottle opener.
Picked that up on my way through Belize one time. Cheers!
Unimog, according to me, would supersede Landover. It May have already.....
Those are 'user required' features!
Rooftop solar panels, 🚿 units etc.
Man I’m still trying to find that Easter egg
J Smitty pretty sure he forgot to put it in
So you start the interview off by looking at your watch after the first question?
Diesel is way better for over landing and 4wdriving in general
front approach angle is ? well is there any now?
Could you tell us your and Micheal's height so we can get a gist of the cab size?
I (Michael) am 5' 10"
Well as I am 6'3" I think the vehicle would be hell. :) Thanks for replying.

Here's why it has been Gerät. Gadget or aperatus.
Dude, flashing words on the video really needs to be there more than a millisecond. I had to rewind 3 times to read the words...frustrating! Otherwise great video as usual.
Yes please!
Sorry! Haven’t been able to figure out how to keep it on there longer!
Lol I think it’s funny

Why do yanks hate diesel
"I wasnt to sure where Africa was" -ask ur great great great grandpappy 😂
The differentials though.
First time out, the luggage carrier in the front would be ripped away by god knows what if it was mine.
The FC shown was actually a Volvo TGB11
Similar to the Volvo, but that truck was a 1976 Land Rover 101. I picked it up in the UK and shipped it to the States. Had it for about 10 years.
Drive The Globe pause the video at 5:01 it's a TGB11. Not a FC.
Here is a Volvo, which is very similar: westcountyexplorersclub.com/2011/11/27/spotted-volvo-tgb-11-for-sale/
Actually it means Universal Motorized Device.
Well! If a pilot uses the Unimog, dynamic features are inevitable to be installed. That's what happened here!
I counted 7 on the bike with the sidecar
You take a farm tractor and a utility truck and put them together. That is a unimog
The Unimog has a verry flexible chassis that keeps the wheels always on the ground tougheter with the long traveling springs; you can put a 50 cm high block under the left front wheel and one under the right back wheel and it's still on four. i found the easter egg, but it just says congratulations with 0's and 1's....am i missing something?
Jonathan Ng ahh that’s all part of the fun!
Jason Koertge I like your style!
Jonathan Ng I’m going to have to make them more difficult!
Jason Koertge challenge accepted!

I would run a diesel engine over a gas anyday.
Lol even race day?
The electric motor is instant power and economic and quieter.
Electric motor is my choice
Like get one if I could afford it.
Oh, the sweet smell of diesel fuel... I love it every 450-500 miles when I refuel my car! :-)
Diesel smells even better with peat moss. The smell of a Cat while working in muskeg is something I miss a lot.
10:00 to skip narcissistic dude
What Easter Egg!?
Did this guy just ask if it's hot in Africa?
Ok so it has a V8 right?.. No it has a straight 6.. ok so tell me more about your boat, it is a boat right?..
Autotrader.ca used Trucks in Canada.
Horrible camera work while inside the cab.
Agreed. Just awful
very peculiar style of interview
sounds like you were at a border patrol interrogating
Its a doka not unimog
soooo you pay out the ass for a unimog and still sleep in a tent, heh?
Depends; ... there ARE manufacturers that build full overland vehicle setups (bed, stove, shower, etc.) on unimogs (still paying out the ass for it)
Immediately frustrated when people who make informative videos can't pronounce Daimler properly...or Bilstein or Porsche for that matter
Please find a merc Benz Zetros and show us poor folks what the inside looks like. 🙌🏼
It's makes me sad when adult men do not know what a P.T.O. is. Stop looking at your watch.
What is a P.T.O.
Oh, well that sorts out that question then ffs.
it's a spinnamathing!
Jason Brigham I
This interviewer should do his homework before asking some of those questions...
This and that tractor made by Lamborghini have got to be the worst tractors ever made, you want a tractor you’re better off with a John Deere.
That is the biggest load of crap unimog. My 4runner has more purpose than that thing. No camper, way too much storage and not even a proper roof top tent. Seriously how much equipment do you freakin need. $80-100k into the build did he even think to add a $1500 proper tent?
jisezer did you even watch the video? You completely missed the point of the unimog. 🤔😳
wow, the walkaround part doesnt even feature what its called werido
