    A good bed, shower, and toilet! Ed is right, they make all the difference and we learned the hard way.
    When designing our current vehicle we only had experience with trips of 2 weeks or less and we thought we would be happy going without many comforts because we were fine without them on our 2 week trips, but traveling fulltime for over a year now, we have so many ideas to improve our next build and it will include a toilet, shower, and a more comfortable bed for sure.

    Andrew St Pierre White pointed out a problem with these extremely large rigs is that if go out side of the U.S.A. it will be difficult if not impossible to drive these rigs in the back country of Africa or Australia. In my opinion it will be hard to drive these in North America.

    • @Christian76S
      @Christian76S 7 лет назад +5

      why exactly, because of its width? these are standard trucks here in germany for construction works and road maintenance. europe is quite densly populated and roads are way more narrow than in the US or Australia, or any other country or continent with more space, hence I don't see any reason why it might be difficult to drive them there, if it is about their width. any other reason?

    • @Tedterranova
      @Tedterranova 7 лет назад +1

      ttnova this rig is build for desert and jungle. would be sad to see this in regular camp grounds :D

    • @Tedterranova
      @Tedterranova 7 лет назад +1

      LOL, yeah didn't mean regular U.S. type campground. In the video Andrew St. Pierre was touring some part of Africa and he mentioned the restrictions on the vehicle size. I believe it was country by country and maybe it was national parks? Some of the camps/parks allow better access to the animals/wildlife and are pretty much like large reserves so not being able to access them sounded like it would really limit your ability to explore and film much of the better wildlife areas. I think even here in the US the national parks limit your vehicle size to certain areas. Though with this rig I'm sure you could just blaze your own trail into the park and avoid the main gate access :)

I travel all over the world for oil exploration and have seen guys drive across the kalahari desert in a rear wheel drive 70's Mercedes sedan. seen guys driving the death roads in Chile in vw bus. seen many drive across the outback of Australia in a 2x4 toyota pickup, some on a moped. we were way up in the Yukon last summer in the bush and crossed paths with a guy from Colorado driving a toyota prius, he was going to drive it to the barrow at the top of Alaska. with a little common sense and the gumption to get out there. you can overland almost anything

    I think the creature comforts are cool but...boondocking for a long time now has taught me one thing. Heavy veeheckles 😊 in wet sand are like using a rock for a life preserver. The plus I guess is after spending the day getting out of washes the hot shower is nice.
    I know I love hitting my solar shower after four wheeling into the back country hiking and biking the trails. But showering off winch grease and sweat doesn't have the appeal. And four-wheeler's can attest to this. Those tires would be extremely hard to change. You don't get a flat on level ground Murphy picks the worst place for you. Some people may like the idea of driving the equivalent of the Titanic off road but look at serious off road truck's they skeletonize as much as they can.
    Because getting there is fun but getting back is awesome!

      K Simpson the standard maximum side angle of the original truck is about 45 degrees and that box does shift the center of gravity up, so i would guess it's somewhere between 25 and 35 degrees, possibly up to 40.
