Cawl has been getting a lot of grief about "well if he had these legions, why didn't he unleash them earlier when the galaxy was threatened", but that isn't how science works. Cawl would have had to spend the majority of that time picking apart the gene seeds and experimenting with different changes to see what effect they would have. Supposing he only had the 25,000 on his ships, he wouldn't have been ready. Even with a very liberal estimate, the prepared marines he unveils on the ship would have had to be quite young in comparison.

He's fully aware that the Mechanicus would escalate into a full-scale civil war extremely quickly if it would even be rumoured that he could get the position.

He even shielded his existence from the more fanatical part of the imperium even when he realized the stagnation the church had brought upon the imperium. He also employed a warsmith to work on his personal beacon in the imperium secundus. His disapproval of the use of the traitor gene must be partially politically motivated. To be fair 10,000 years is a long time so Cawl probably was not lacking for bodies but then you have to think about the over 1000 chapters of space marines there are in the galaxy and how each of them would be brought back to a thousand marines strong much less the new chapters that were created in the Ultima founding from all the marines left over. I know 40k is all about stupidly huge scales of time and numbers but it’s one of those things I like to think about even if it places no really part in playing the game or painting the models.

Ok so on the idea of Guilliman renauncing the 1000 marines per chapter thing and going back to legion strength thing. Did anyone notice the squad number on the reviewed heavy intercessors in last saturday's review. It was XI or 11 and as far as I remember each company had up to ten squads each? Or am I wrong? If not thats a big tell that old Roberto might be going back to bigger chapters at least.

The warhammer wiki confirms the numbers of squads as 6 - 10 man battlleline, 2 - 10 man close support and 2 - heavy support squads for each battle company (which the second is) so I might be on to something. Or it might be nothing. Comment what you guys think

I can’t help but wonder who’s evolution of the astartes was better. Belasarius’ or Corax’s version not tainted by the Alpha Legion.

There are members of the AdMech who refer to the Emperor as the Omnissiah (and vice versa). While we know a shard of the Void Dragon was buried on Mars eons ago, and is likely where they reverse engineered a lot of their tech and began to worship, they revere and fear the Emperor, and he can somehow communicate with them through the machine. Crazy relationship going on there. Add in Cawl's multiple consciousness personalities...

Trayzn & Cawl have to be working together behind the scenes... I'm telling you! Hahaha

I wish that in older books there were allusions to Cawl building the Primaris Legions like AdMech forces being mysteriously found on SM recruitment worlds taking some of potential aspirants with them.

No he may think that his brilliance can overshadow anything. But he does not wish to be the head of the mechanicum. That's actually a copy of his that wants to place him as the head. There is a bit of lore where he learns of his copies request to Guilliman that he be made the head of the mechanicum. At which point he decides that it is a flaw and makes plans to look into it. There's also another bit of lore where he is talking to the emperor. The emperor tells him that though he may think that he is betraying the emperor and Imperium he has and is not but instead is still working for the emperor under his Direction. After of which Belisarius immediately forgets the conversation ever happened.

I desperately want Jaghatai Khan to return so that he could help Gulliman. Jaghatai always been catious and distant to other primarchs. Him, bounding with Gulliman would be a nice touch to his character arc. We would get to see Jaghatais human side that he only showed to Sanguinius just slightly. Just imagine if Lion woke up too. Gulliman as the administrator, Lion as the enforcer, Jaghatai as the general. man that would be cool af.

One thing I’ve never seen an answer for (because primarchs disappear) is how do each chapter respond to their gene-father. Do chapters all fall in line under command of their gene-father? If so, then codex astartes is redundant.
