    My husband got SMP done a year ago for his receding hairline and honestly it looks great! He keeps his hair cut low and you can’t even tell it’s not his actual hairline. He was very self conscious about his receding hairline but this gave him his confidence back! I would definitely recommend it, it has held up well over the past year.. and if need be he can easily get it touched up.

  • @FreeSpokenOne
    @FreeSpokenOne 2 года назад +29

    Interesting method and effective. Even if the hair starts returning to the scalp by some future miracle this will take a back seat and slowly fade away. My cousin’s husband has alopecia and I really didn’t notice it until told he did but I know people can be sensitive and some lack confidence from hair loss despite being reassured they look good like they are. Different does not mean lesser to me but society is judgmental and shallow to a large degree. Also, Dr. Linkov, you truly look great with or without hair and this being the only way I’ve seen you, it somewhat throws me to see you with it. How funny is that?

    • @MotoMiles
      @MotoMiles 2 года назад

      Definitely. I noticed when I had a hairpiece. guess you could call it a “man unit” it looked very natural it is even faded like a low fade into my head. I got compliments daily . I got flirted with constantly it was very different. And the second I just started walking around just with my head bald I noticed a automatic halt of some of that interaction out there. And I will admit it hurt my confidence because I thought maybe that it didn’t matter but I was a very drastic experience without it. So I think as many people say they like having a baldhead socially especially with some women they are not all into it. And I get lots of them on forums that they say that they are into it .. however out in the world I don’t see them as much.

      @@codename495 Actually gender is very much a factor. There are several studies that show women can tolerate a much higher rate of pain over a longer period of time then men. I've worked in chronic pain for 7yrs and my husband is a chronic pain specialist we see the differences everyday. It also only stands to reason women would need a higher tolerance in order to endure child birth. Not so long ago there were no pain meds for women giving birth and in some countries they still don't have what we have in the western world. Labor is the most intense pain known to man and the men I know are not ashamed to admit there is no way they could do it. It doesn't make them less of a man.

    I had this done as an alopecia areata patient. I regret it. The ink faded super fast, it was invisible in the sunlight. It was pretty easy to see the difference between ink and actual hair. The pics you see online are altered to make it look as good as possible with lighting and it will not look that way in the real world. Unless you live by the facility going for touchups is a hassle. Lastly it is crazy expensive. They want to make it seem medical so they can charge a ton when really it is just a tattoo. But, I learned later, when his wife joked about it that he came home after getting it done and apparently it was so noticeable that she grabbed "sand paper" and scrubbed his head for an extensive period of time to diminish the look. P.S., a loved one should never joke about things like this. While everyone might have a quick laugh about it, the person that had the procedure could likely suffer serious emotional trauma. I had SMP in 2018. For the most part: the result was undetectable to others, and it did restore my confidence initially, give me a sense of freedom. That said, I never quite felt comfortable with it. Fast forward to 2022, and you see a ton of guys with SMP in the gym. Your initial reaction is: “Oh his got a tattoo on his head.” I was a NW3 so whilst it did look more like a buzz cut rather than a bald head, in daylight I could definitley see a distinction between the SMP and my natural hair. Similarly, the SMP definitley does not look 3D once it wears off; I notice that the majority of promotional photos for SMP are taken immediately post the final session, and thus the scabbing gives it a 3D effect. After 2 weeks, however, this scabbing falls off. In the end I ended up adding human hair fibres to give my SMP areas a 3D look. This year I then underwent a hair transplant; whilst it’s still early days, I feel massively better with a hair transplant than I did with, what I considered to be, ‘a tattoo on my head’. I think SMP is useful to guys who can’t yet afford a transplant but just need a break from constantly worrying about their hair loss. Otherwise, in 2022, become far too common for SMP to look undetectable. Looking at the guys in the gym, and people you see on Instagram, its 100% easy to notice when someone has had this done. With it being so detectable, it defeats the object imo.

      @theeNellyD Год назад +1

      Your story sounds similar to mine, I had SMP done in Sept 2021 after much research on the procedure and prospective SMP studios. I'm also an NW3 but due to my receding hairline just wanted to frame my face again to regain a youthful appearance. Prior to having the procedure done, I only shaved my head one time and hated the appearance of not having hair but had to decide whether to shave it indefinitely with SMP or continue to have a complex over it falling out. In hindsight, I'm glad I went the SMP route although I totally agree about the 2D SMP and 3D hair growing so keeping it shaved is key. I've never razor shaved my head but use a trimmer that is as close to the skin as you can get but have to cut it daily. That being said, I've strongly considered having transplants as I have a healthy donor area but my biggest fear is that the results will not meet my expectations. I understand the hair transplant procedure is a lengthy process and am curious to know if you recommend having it done based on your results up to this point or if it's too early to tell?

    • @tyey25
      @tyey25 Год назад +2

      @@theeNellyD Totally appreciate where you're coming from; I, too, had those same concerns. It's something I strongly considered for a long time, but as I'd never spoken to anyone about my hair loss (the only person was the SMP artist), there was a major mental element to it, too. I decided I needed to just take the jump - now or never. It is still early days, however, thus far I couldn't be happier. It's liberating to wake up, leave the house and do ordinary things again - walking the dog in the wind/rain, showering at the gym, etcetera - without worrying about or being limited by my hair, hair fibres, or whether others can tell I have a hair tattoo. (There are a lot of guys who mention no one has said they have a hair tattoo, but the reality is: just become someone hasn't vocalised it, it doesn't mean they haven't noticed.) The hair transplant procedure still feels like one big blur. It's certainly not as painless as people make it out to be, but I'm glad I took the leap, and, as it stands, would recommend a hair transplant to anyone who, like yourself, has good donor hair and stabilised loss. As you've already had SMP, you may notice that the redness isn't as visible post-transplant. Definitely consider the pros and cons, but my advice would be to jump if it's something you think would add value to your life. I went in with minimal expectations, but currently my hairline looks better than it did at aged 16, so, in my case at least, expectations were exceeded.I find myself looking in the mirror and just smiling - that feeling is priceless. Hope it works out for you whatever you decide.

Most people have no idea what SMP is and even if they look closely they don't see the difference. And they don't care. To me it sounds better than being bald and better than stressing trying to maintain your real hair that don't even want to be there. Transplants, maintenance, heart and dick side effects from min and fin, stress if it's not working and you need a 2nd transplant. No thanks.

He had the procedure so when I went I told myself if I can see it as fake looking that I wasn't going to do it. I stared at his head up close and was very impressed. SMP requires that you keep your head shaved. It mimics a buzz cut. Before hair follicles become 3 D (SMP is 2 D), they will always appear as various shades of gray. Take a look the presenter's SMP in this video . Compare his scalp to his facial hair, and you can clearly see the SMP is a shade of gray.
      With that being said,the practitioner will decide the dilution level to determine which shade of gray is appropriate for the client.

    Thank you so much for this, I have been looking into SMP for ages, is it effective for women with thinning hair? Would have loved to see some results for the women

    I am age 63 and have hair like a wolf but wanted to try smp so I could discuss it with some validity. I cut my hair with a 1/16 guided razor and proceeded to the clinic and paid 2500 for a full smp just the top of the scalp. The idea was to then grow my hair back which I am doing.
    I notices a few interesting things.The real hair follicles at the hairline area may be a bit more shallow in the scalp and i think the smp needle hit them because a tiny area is growing back much slower then normal. For this reason a artist should go a bit more shallow along the front of a hairline not to damage any existing and growing hair follicles.
    Secondly, some of my hair grows back at a slightly different direction as if the ink blocked the normal exit of the hair through the scalp so the route the hair took was slightly altered. Same as you would drive your car around a road block to get where you are going.
    The smp process only took about 2 hours or less for 2500 so I imagine anyone in their right mind would want to be in this field because the training is not medical no degree needed but the profits are huge. This pay is higher per hour then most legal fees for a attorney !!!
    Lastly, I can now tell my kids that as a old dude I have more tattoos then them. Smiles...

    If there’s anything I could say to men…straight talk, one thing would be ‘DO NOT STRESS ABOUT THIN HAIR OR BALDING, DO NOT!’ Any and every man who is accepting and genuinely confidently owning his natural look is 💯 hot. 0% hair or 100% hair . I’ve had a bf who was very hairy, hairy back etc, and also had a bf with alopecia totalis. Both guys were genuinely accepting of their slightly unmainstream looks and that was HOT. Be different, be uniquely you 😍

      I agree. While I'm thinking of doing SMP, I've been shaving my head for 7 years (before I had hair loss), so once I noticed I was losing my hair it wasn't really a big deal. And getting jacked really helps pull off the shaved head look.

      @@marcus_ohreallyus definitely! Bald with the rest cropped on no.1 or 2 comb, good top to toe grooming, getting gym fit and healthy, even just lifting heavy stuff in your room or back yard is affordable or costs hardly anything, don’t even need to spends on a gym, plenty free RUclips workouts, seeing dentist reg, all those together is going to be making you feel good and look good, and that boosts confidence a lot anyway

      You shouldn't ever have any hair on your head...with the smp, you're essentially a bald man with a tattoo on top. You can't let whatever hair is left grow too much (prob 2 to 4 days for a bald man) or else the natural hair that's dense will overpower the tattoo smp

    I’ve been thinking about getting it done. Here in Canada plenty of salons/clinics offering it. I hear it’s “semi-permanent”, but I think for especially pale like me, probably good for ever. Here in the Lower Mainland I hear $2800 - $3500 (CAD) for a standard full treatment.

      I would check out Mark Allen from Creative Scalps, imho he is the best in the business atm regarding SMP, i believe he has even opened a studio in the U.S now, good luck with it.

      I had smp literally a month ago. Was skeptical but went ahead. Best decision I made. Did some research, checked reviews and found a top practitioner (UK).
      Gotto say, 1st session I was still skeptical, but my gut feeling was still to go ahead.

    The risk is for anyone who is allergic to the ink. Especially if the ink contains PPD. Same as Tattoos and hair dye.
