From the way he is describing the experience, I suspect he is truly seeing primary colors. For example, stop signs are not brown anymore and highway signs are green rather than gray. At one point in the video he mentions that the gray shirt is what green used to be for him. Rose bushes have been a big deal, he can now see the colors of the flowers and they no longer blend in with the leaves.
About half the people who are colorblind don't completely lose the cones that sense the colors they're blind to. The glasses change the light spectrum by damping down the other colors and enhancing the ones in their blind range. The brain takes over and rebalances its processing of the spectrum, but now since all the color signals are correct, the person sees color properly.
Very true, a unique and apt way to think about it. Now I have normal color vision, but my father has what is called tetrachromacy. Basically in stead of 3 color cones like you and me, he was born with 4. Basically people with 4 cones see shades of color far better then you or me. Two color pallets identical to us are obviously different to them. It kind of give you a picture of what it would be like to be color blind when, in a sense we are compared to a person with tetrachromacy.
@@stephanginther9051 Isn't that extremely rare for a man? I heard it's rare but that women have it much more than men. I wonder what a Monet painting looks like with that type of vision.
@@jimmyfortrue3741 Yes it is, actually its pretty interesting. All good genetic dispositions related to color eyesight are more common in women, and all bad are more common in men. Women typically have better color vision then men just in general. Also if either parent has the color blindness gene a male child can get it, but a girl can only get it if both parents have the gene. How sweet! I am so happy that he can see color. It is a gift that most of us take for granted. I hope he has been able to enjoy it for the rest of his life.
@@maryannedelaney Thank you. I also worry that if given this gift my family would be disappointed in my reaction. They would be looking for something similar to what is in the video. I'm perfectly happy with what I see. I spend a lot of time outdoors and I find what I see amazing and beautiful. I have failed every color blind test ever given and I'm perfectly fine with it. I'm now 48 years old and love life. If only you all could see what I see.
You see, this is a company that really changes lives, this is really making an impact. They don't need to make advertisements, they can just use videos like these, this is what real happiness is.
Sorry to tell you... This kind of videos are their advertisements. Most of them are scripted marketing videos. Yeah, hard to believe but i think you must know it.
well, but give at least some credit to the scientists who spent ten years developing the technology for these eyeglasses. If I had to choose where my charity dollar goes, it'd go to this kind of research instead of to a church.
As a colourblind person, Wen I saw colours first time, I thot the glasses were broken or smth. I LOVED orange before because I hardly ever got that colour wrongly but after wearing it, orange was ugly and red seemed pink. I finally understood why people sad red looked like pink. And also, the worst part... people looked so BLAND. Like I saw why people were multicoloured. Everybody used to look kinda green.
@ I assure you, now 3.5 years later, he absolutely CAN see colors he never saw before. No we didn't make him take a color blind test, because this was a surprise. And we've witnessed him not seeing red or green our entire lives, there was no question he was colorblind. And we have piles of hunting and shooting glasses, none of them ever had an even remotely similar result as Enchroma.
This is so cool. I had my husband take the test on Enchroma's site because I've always thought he might be slightly color blind & sure enough, he is. Now I want to get him these glasses
Loorou I saw one of these vids and the big reveal was in an ugly parking lot with no particular colours, the balloons were still in the box and the other people were wearing drab colours.🤷♀️ The guy was still blown away though.
Such a beautiful thing to share as a family! Something most of us take for granted, I can't imagine the wonder he must feel!! Thanks for sharing this with the world!!
That was the coolest video ever! What an awesome family! I am color blind but not as bad as some. I am so happy that he doesn't have to go another day without seeing in living color!
God-bless him! I'm glad he was alive to actually had the experience to see color for the first time. Sometimes, we as people with normal eyes, take it for granted that we can see everything.... I hope he enjoys his glasses for a long time! This is definitely a life changer! I thank the investors that discovered these glasses. ❤
That was a gift to my mother-in-law, she'll be very pleased you noticed. We found it at a local store where we live - lots of local craftsmen stuff. But you can probably find a retailer by googling "Wind Spinner".
Your title says he sees color for the first time but in the description you say he is red-green colorblind. i always thought you just cant tell the difference with that colorblindness

I almost wish I was always colour blind so I could experience this. It just seems so amazing I can't wrap my mind around it... I mean, can you even imagine seeing a new colour? Let alone all of them. It would feel like magic.
Lol.. I know this is coming super late after your comment. But I totally get what you mean about seeing strange colors. Thank God for the grace to see. Wish you well
