I luckily did get to experience it in the theatre and saw all the SciFi channel docs beforehand. It had me going for a bit. Til i realized before going to see it that there is no way in hell that the families of the dead kids would allow their children's last moments to be used in such a way. But it was still creepy and effective. One time only really tho.

I loved this film as a kid. It genuinely scared the crap out of me because everyone i knew thought it was real, including me.
I also didn't mind that the film never showed the creature. That made it scarier. The final scene was one of the most disturbing things i've ever seen. I'll never forget seeing one of the people just standing there in the corner.

      @raphaelcalado4335 Год назад

@Joshua you are entitled to your opinion. Regardless The Blair Witch Project revolutionary contribution to the horror genre still can be felt today.
You can criticize the plot for its simplicity, but it just shows how shallow was your interpretation of it.
The tension and how it was built is something that few movies could evoke.
But of course, TBWP is a divisive movie, there are people how love it and people who are wrong about it.
I love the guerrila style filming, I love the tension, The visuals and the sense of danger the forest immersed us in.
The act was on point and natural as it should be. The conflict never felt forced and it compounded to the stress of their situation.
The way we never saw the witch, we don’t even know who is the antagonist and this again compound to the stress and fear.
But then again, you can have your opinion , but it is just as worth to me as nothing. And certainly the same applies to you and how you feel about my opinion, that being said your childish behavior just didn’t contribute to accomplish anything, so your last answer at least brought your pov and while I disagree with you, it is better than single sucks .

I have to do that often, many of my friends just can't take any horror movie seriously and question why I watch them..
Luckily my girlfriend likes horrors more than my friends do so I watch them with her, still though... She doesn't ALWAYS get why I find certain movies so good.
And she doesn't appreciate dated special effects like I do, I love and appreciate films as old as films get, I don't care if it's in black and white, silent, color, a different language, uses stop motion, uses real animals and stuff with a green screen, rubber suits, puppets, CGI.. I really don't give a crap, they're all equally entertaining to me (although I do feel that CGI is definitely the least interesting) , where as she will watch black and white movies, won't watch any silent movies, likes some stop motion like Ray Harryhausen stuff but thinks classics like King Kong 1933 looks like shit! 😡 And overall she just prefers it when everything uses CGI over any practical effects, and it's hard for her to ever get into the atmosphere of a horror movie without stupid f*cking jump scares.. 🤦‍♂️.... But still, she watches most movies I want to watch with her and likes most of them, I love her to bits and wouldn't want to watch these films with anyone else over her.... Even if she doesn't appreciate the art of film, film making and special effects quite like I do..
And my favourite movie of all time, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974, she does like the film as has watched it multiple times with me, but she still doesn't quite get why I find it so unsettling and amazing, like the scene when the girl is in the room full of bone furniture and stuff, I'm like "wow, the camera angles, the sound effects, the constant creepy noises repeated like the sound of the chicken and stuff.. It builds so much atmosphere, like it's tormenting you, and not to mention that many of these props were made using real bones! How this film is shot really feels real!" and she's just like "ooohhhh it's a spooky chicken in a cage.. scary.." 🤦‍♂️.. But oh well! What am I gonna do haha. :)

@@cookiesontoast9981 Your girlfriend sounds like one of my exes, who would ask me why I have such an expensive home theater and audio equipment to watch movies/listen to music, when you could do the same in a cheap small TV. I gave up trying to explain these things to her very quickly, as it's a difference in values, mostly. She just didn't see any real value in art.

Just wanted you to know that you inspired me and my girlfriend to watch this movie last night. It’s been a few years. Anyway, I’ve always sung this movies praises. It’s one of those rare horror movies where I genuinely feel bad for what’s happening to the characters. It’s also kinda amazing that there really isn’t anything in it that announces itself as being “theatrical” I’ve never understood the “nothing happens” argument. To me, this movie did an excellent job of showing the psychological effects of going through a situation like that. Just watching these three people slowly unravel under the stress was incredibly creepy and heartbreaking. And of course the fact that’s there’s so much lore built in is incredibly impressive. They made like FIVE movies worth of fake backstory for their movie and all of it really adds to the experience of watching it. I spent about an hour just reading all the extra lore to my girlfriend. We had just as much fun discussing that as we did watching the movie. So yeah, for many many reasons this will always be one of my favorite psychological suspense flicks. All of it feels incredibly authentic, I genuinely felt great sympathy for the characters and the whole movie just leaves you with this hopeless and cold feeling after it’s done. It’s a misunderstood and criminally under appreciated masterpiece.

They've just been trained to salivate whenever they see/hear a jumpscare or the monster shows up onscreen, and are so devoid of intelligence, creativity and ability to think for themselves that they hate movies who leave stuff to their imagination... because they have none.

Blair witch project is without a doubt one of the greatest horror films of all time. it shows how to blend perfectly the idea of realism and horror, you're not sure what is real and what isn't. Despite it creating the subgenre of found-footage in the modern era of horror, the one thing that it did that every other horror film and found footage styles fails at is it doesn't look clean at all it literally looks like it was made with handheld cameras because it was. There's no movie magic or Hollywood makeup or anything. Anyone who wants to become an indie filmmaker or actor should watch this film!

It's one of the best horror movies ever honestly. The horror is in the lore and what the viewer thought, not what they saw. The line "I'm scared to close my eyes, and I'm scared to open them" to me is the best line in horror movie history. That's a level of fear that, unless you've experienced it, you'll never know how horrible that is.

I like it for being a modern ghost story that was assembled (obviously convincingly well) where a ghost story did not actually exist before, and had new aspects to it while also carrying ghost story traditions. Does it completely make sense? No. Then again, how many old folklore ghost stories, or even urban legends completely make sense? From what I gather, Burkittsville does have ghost stories (due to Civil War conflict in the area), but nothing about a witch. Wooded areas there are, apparently, not even deep or dense enough to lose sight of a road before you would emerge into a clear area again on any side. Being an extremely small, obscure town, the filmmakers pretty much had carte blanche to embellish it with a Seneca State Park scale wooded area, and whatever history.

This movie is fucking great. I didn't realize so many people liked to shit on it. Even knowing the whole story is fake doesn't really detract from how well-made it was. The atmosphere of the movie is incredible. The creepy items in the woods are used perfectly, from random sticks and rocks they stumble across to slowly becoming sinisterly-placed objects they can't escape from.
The build-up is really solid and well-paced. The "final day" before the climax of the film, you can literally feel their hopelessness and desperation through the screen, which is a testament to both the actors and the screenwriter. And then the climax itself is very well done. It's dark, mysterious, and perhaps the best use of the found-footage technique in the entire film.
And I LOVE the fact that it never shows the Blair Witch onscreen. Leaving it to the imagination worked to perfection for that particular story in that particular genre. And the ending with the guy standing in the corner, with nothing to follow but screaming in the background and the camera hitting the floor....fucking chefs kiss.
That movie was awesome. For me it's a top 10 of the horror genre.

The director of cannibal holocaust made the actors sign a contract to stay out of the public eye for a while and because the content of the movie look too realistic, rumours started that the cast supposedly died in the movie and therefore the director was sent to court on allegations of making a snuff movie, he had to break the contract with the actors to appear in court to prove otherwise and explain how certain effects were done in order for the charges to be dropped.
Thats what happens when a marketing gimmick gone wrong, whereas with this movie it worked well.

If you were to ask me, the only time we ever got as CLOSE to the “realistic shock” that Blair Witch had back in the day is the Marble Hornets online series of videos. Admittedly it IS using an already established lore of Slenderman but they take liberties with it to make it MORE scarier than the original source.
While I do enjoy the TRUE Blair Witch followup up a few years ago, they REALLY should’ve taken notes from that webseries since that’s as close to a TRUE Blair Witch Project successor as you’ll ever get.

Just watched the BWP a year ago in a theater with a full house. Oddly, the movie seems to fly by now. It's only 86 minutes or so and if you're focused, you really feel the dread of the actors as they get sucked further and further into the abyss of the story. It really does hold up quite well, as this excellent review points out.

Still works for me. Watched it for the first time last year and loved it. Always heard about it of course and my parents talked about it being one of those movies based on a true story but I really didn't know anything going into it and it worked for me 100%. Definitely important and definitely a classic.

    Nothing jumpscare.
    Nothing activity.

I saw it on tv, so it was already well known it wasn't real and all the hype had died down. Maybe cause it was on tv, the video footage worked better, but I loved it. I was completely creeped out. It's scarier than movies with big budgets with gore and make up effects.

Honestly, I believe that when it comes to horror movies you have to absolutely be sure as to what kind of theme you're going with. In my opinion, the Blair Witch Project does a decent attempt to do what it tried to do with it's previously unknown genre, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite horror movie.
