"The maze is made up of a 16×16 grid of cells, each 180 mm square with walls 50 mm high. The mice are completely autonomous robots that must find their way from a predetermined starting position to the central area of the maze unaided. The mouse needs to keep track of where it is, discover walls as it explores, map out the maze and detect when it has reached the goal. Having reached the goal, the mouse will typically perform additional searches of the maze until it has found an optimal route from the start to the finish. Once the optimal route has been found, the mouse will run that route in the shortest possible time."

It's a competition where a pre programed algorithm is put into the mouse for it find it's way to the middle. I did this during my middle school days and our mouse usually take a minute. 7 seconds is hella impressive.
@@papercranexz1235 I'm somewhat interested, does the mouse have a pre-existing map of the maze or does it record what route it has taken? also, do they program it to stop before hitting the wall (which would be awesome)? I'm not that good at coding only playing.
@@Sturdim the map of the maze is not given to the competitors. In the program, we see the map as made up of squares. For instance, a 25 by 25 squares map. We then set for each square the movement priority, for example, in a particular square we can set priority for forward, right, left, then backwards. Base on this, if the mouse detects a wall forward, it'll try to turn right, if a wall is there as well, it will try to turn left and so on. So the main objective of this is to program every single square, put it into the maze and hope for your mouse to find the path to the middle fast.
This video is so underrated. That is simply Incredible. The way it just fine tunes it's movements down to such an exact science, it didn't bother with 98% of the Maze and still somehow found the Target that quickly. Amazing.
It's something like 4th run; on the first run or two the mouse would search the maze and find the optimal path (in addition, the mouse can also search the maze on the return run), which it would then use on the subsequent runs. (I believe that the mouse has five attempts, and the fastest run counts; plus there's a time limit on the total amount of time.)
