The only problem with this design is that because you wrapped the chain around the wheel well, the gear ratio is much larger, so you gain less distance when you petal. You would spend alot more energy riding this bike than any other bike. Other than that, the design is really futuristic, it gives me a Tron vibe. Great work.

The other issue is bearing noise. The metal on metal sound of the wheel on the bearings. Also didn't see him shift gears or go off road. I imagine mud if ridden off-road is a issue too. At first I was concerned about the lack of brakes, but then noticed the brake disc on the intermediate layshaft / gear set, because after some thought, it was exactly where I expected to see it.
What I still can't work out is the attachment of the large rear sprocket wheel [ presumably another custom cut part ] to the rear wheel rim, and why that fat tyre doesn't rub against the chain, & push it off the sprocket.
Any ideas, or working hypotheses greatly appreciated.

Great creativity of this mechanic! I watched the reconstruction of this bike with great interest. The analyzes of the presented material show that only a specific rim is suitable for making a spokeless wheel. Its construction must be quite resistant to lateral and internal loads, because this is where the bearings are mounted. The total rolling resistance is higher than in the standard version. It is important that effective performance, congratulations, greetings 😀.

@@XIskandarX I don't know mechanics well but I would ask myself. How durable and resistant to break it is - you have high forces in one point. If someone more sturdy uses it might just break on the first curb. Chains are very tense and power transmission - you would need to calculate how energy efficient it is. Also, there is a loud music as background so you can hear how ball bearings act. Next, for me it's just to many parts - consider something breaks. I think there lots of other things that people who know mechanical engineering would point out. ( @always eatinpotatos is mentioning more in the comments in other thread)

So what fascinated me the most by this build is that huge sprocket on the rear wheel. Could that be modified to fit the rim of a regular tire? Like in addition to its regular gears. Because with the right gear ratio and an ac generator, that would make an excellent restorative charging system for e-bikes, to utilize some of the momentum of the bike or energy spent peddling, to help recharge some of the battery reserves. Obviously its not free energy, as the generator will be taking energy from the over all system of the movement. But if your were able to engage and disengage it as needed, you could utilize coasting down hills as a way to get a quick recharge as needed. Or opt to peddle a bit harder to charge the battery, while you still aren't tired, so you could take a break later. But with the right gear ratio, like this one, I don't think it would take a significant amount of effort to gain back some charge.

edit: this is mainly to point out the pros without hitting the con straight on the nose as respect to the amount work put in. The guy only had the gears, chain/pedal gear and cassette/cog from a normal bike to work with. Otherwise I would imagine he can make a bike with much better gear ratio and maybe even ability to change gear, depends on resources and design. (for those curious, hub is just the round pipe thing at center of the gear circle/wheel. In this version, the hub is moved and is no longer spin in a 1:1 ratio to the wheel (conventional bike). So it is hubless if you just focus on the wheel, but still has a hub over all, it just moved to elsewhere.

The object inside should not be delicate or else it will break and it also should not be heavy, because it will spoil the flow of cycling.

Yes, that compartment can be used to store battery and turn the bicycle in to ebike.

Honestly, I _did not_ expect such a thin pair of steel plates to be able to keep the pressure.
I've found this because I'm currently contemplating building one myself - and my idea was more along the lines of a thick aluminium plate which doubles as a gear in the inner wheel.
Have you found any unexpected issues over the years of use?

I saw someone do that with a drone flying through the frame of a BMX bike. It was really quite epic. Now how about attaching a camera to the inside of the rim lens pointing at the phantom hub?

Sir you earned yourself a subscription, people debate over gear ratios etc the question i have is how much to plasma cut custom parts needed for the build and other parts can be used to improve design to make it fast and cool possibly electric with motorcycle sprocket thick rear wheel sprocket same design on the rear wheel and custom driving sprocket (where you peddle from) to adapt to the thickness, cut slits 1/4 throughout the design with reinforcement to prevent warping keep strength possibly make it stronger (washers but custom made out of thicker stronger material) to keep strength with a foggy plexi glass inserts in the 1/4 in slits and led behind the plexi that changes color piggybacked on the electric idea you sir got a tron bicycle and sign me up! if you make one send me one for the extra ideas, take it to car/bike shows and you will rule the streets with a bicycle.

Connect a smaller gear to your rear wheel gear. The chains can link up to the smaller gear and make it theoretically more efficient.

What are the advantages over the conventional wheels? Is it low cost to own and maintain, is it energy efficient or more comfortable?

Nothing like reinventing the wheel, you would certainly hear this bike coming down the street.
