I explored Manchester and the old homes of Man United (and Newton Heath); North Road & Bank Street.

watching them have a disaster of a season after signing the "GOAT" CR7 and then seeing them struggle to sign anyone this window (so far), including publicly chasing De Jong who DOESN'T WANT TO JOIN because Utd can't offer Champs league football for who knows how many seasons. Yep, this last season and this season coming should be pretty funny.

Great story, Man Utd to secure a future needs big time to rid itself of the Glazer ghouls before they bankrupt the club. On another note that I feel is only fair to mention, I do hope everyone associated with FC United of Manchester is at the beginning of a folklore success that will also make for a great story in time, what has been achieved so far by FC United is remarkable.

Excellent video. Glad you mentioned you are not a Man Utd fan, but interested in Football history and old stadia. I am a Liverpool fan, and old enough (68) to have visited the old grounds now long gone. I loved old those old grounds, such as Burnden Park (Bolton) , Roker Park (Sunderland), White Hart Lane (Spurs), Goodison Park soon to be added to the list. One old ground I never liked was Wembley. One of my students lived right next to Roker Park. His Mam would get tickets for the Sunderland v Liverpool games and the family always made me welcome, proper Wearsiders. Roker Park was a grand old ground. I have always liked Sunderland. Calvin Palmer , Sunderland left back in 1972, once put me and my dog up for the night, as we were hitchhiking down from Scotland. Sadly Calvin had left Sunderland by the following season when they beat Leeds Utd in the FA Cup Final. He was a good bloke, but tended to fall out with his managers. Probably cos he was smarter than them. He died in 2014, very sad.

well said, sir. as a united supporter i hate liverpool but i respect them. i have no respect for city. im not opposed to clubs making a name of course. not going to lie a little bit of me was rooting for leicester when they made their run. i want to see clubs earn it, not just buy it. clubs like united, liverpool, arsenal, ya they spend money. but they spent over a century building their club and seeing success most of the time. clubs like city really didnt do much but were just bought by super wealthy people.

At present The Old Trafford Stadium is still incomplete & needs is an upgrade of the SBC stand & East & West quadrant to be completed first before you can sort out the roof.
This Stadium has a lot of potential & can be one of the best stadium in Europe if not the world with the original design cos it has character & authentic with the potential capacity of at least 90K, all it needs is an refurbished & some TLC.
Take Note: The Stadium Must Not Exceed the rail way track!
Man Utd 's Old Trafford 'The Super Bowl of Stadiums known as 'The Theatre of Dreams' is unique & a Colossal of a stadium.

I corrected a RUclipsr recently who put United's formation date at 1902, unaware that they'd changed their name. If the club was given a winding up order then unless the company went into liquidation, like Rangers did, and the saviours stepped in at the last minute to save the club then it's the same club. It upsets a lot of Rangers fans when I tell them that the new Rangers is a phoenix club and doesn't actually have any legal ties to the old one. So, in all honesty, the trophies that it claims to have won were won by the old club, which is now defunct. Anyway, my one and only trip to Old Trafford was in 1978 when they were celebrating their Centenary. It was a friendly against Real Madrid. I bought a United centenary scarf. Had it for years but don't know what happened to it since. That was until earlier this year when I took my granddaughter to watch the women's game against Everton. She likes to think of herself as a female Ronaldo.

I grew up in Clayton and during the mid 90s to early 2000s me, my brother and our mates would walk to the velodrome (cycling centre) to play football during the summer holidays. Every year they'd have a football camp and all the local kids would go and play right next to to the spot where United's ground used to be. The football would either be set up in the car park, inside the velodrome or in Phillips park. Amazing memories, I hope that summer footie camp is still going strong 👍🏻

Man Utd's Old Trafford stadium that a bit of TLC won't cure.
All it needs is the Upgrade of the Sir Bobby Charlton's Stand with a 2nd tier to complete the original design & the removal of the 3rd tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson's Stand & replaced by TV Screens for all 4 corners.
We also want a levelled retractable new Roof + modern refurbishment of the rest of the stadium to warrant a 90K capacity in comfort.
    SBCS 25K +
    SAFS 25K +
    SES 20K +
    ES 20K = 90K.
Take Note: The expansion should not exceed the rail track.
Old Trafford known as 'The Theatre of Dreams' unique in style is the Super Bowl of stadiums & is potentially The best Stadium in the country, possibly the world.

Be careful what you wish for, a new ground to replace and improve the capacity would be best part of a billion add that to what the glazers have shackled us with, most of our stadium is less than 35 year old, probably the oldest section is k stand which was built in 72 , a lot clubs ran their stadium in to the ground, I remember speaking to a Bolton fan in the late 80s and said the ground needs new stands, he said they need to get it right on the green stuff before they invest in new concrete and plastic seats , that's the advice we need to be following at the moment

I don't know if the plaque was re-sited when the school was knocked down as part of the land clearance work to build the shiny offices there now. I live about 3 miles away from there. Northampton Rd is not far from FC United's new ground, Broadhurst Park, which incorporates a storey of large railway sleepers as a nod to the roots of Manchester football.

That's such an odd video. I went to Moston Brook High School for about a year in the late 80s and that was on Northampton Road. I remember PE teachers going bananas telling us that we were so lucky to be doing PE lessons on Uniteds old pitch! Not sure how true that is but they used to belt on about it at the school all the time (the school tie was the same as the official United tie...red with a white diagonal stripe bordered with black.)
Seeing the video is really mad as not only is there no sign of Newton Heaths old ground but every bit of what was there in the 80s has gone as well!

The first ground north road didn’t have changing rooms. They had a ten minute walk from a pub on Oldham road. You’re right though it was just sludge and they then moved. Bank street, I think the week before they left the main stand roof blew down. Also you mention Manchester central, they actually became a club based at belle vue. Was made up if ex city and united. They ended as united and city blocked their application to the league. A great way to see how clubs grew is to look at the local fa cup. Newton Heath ended up becoming the stronger club through winning it. Pretty much the same with a lot of clubs. You can find the results and Newton Heath weren’t the only team in Newton Heath. The other Newton Heath were based on ten acres where fc united nearly moved to. Fun fact with the eithad, United we’re felt out but no serious talks about taking it on. It was built for the common wealth games but Manchester had a failed Olympic bid for the 2000 games that Sydney won. Had Manchester won they would have built the Olympic stadium where the Trafford centre now is. I can’t see city ever braving to move that side of town, they have no support there at all. So had Manchester won the Olympic bid things would probably be very different for city. The velodrome built on the bank street site was for the Olympic bid.

The stand blew down the week after they left Bank St. Regarding the other Newton Heath team, United's keeper when they won Division 2 in 1935-36, John Hall, was my uncle. He had played for Newton Heath Loco before he was signed by United, playing for the Central League side then the first team. He was transferred to Spurs for 1936-37 for a world record fee. I have his United and Spurs contracts. By 1945-46 he was at Stalybridge Celtic, and still the most expensive goalkeeper in world football. I live next door to where he used to live in Failsworth. However, it's not the sort of house that a top footballer would live in these days.

Do Liverpool have a original ground? Not 100% sure but Liverpool were called Liverpool Ramblers and moved into Everton's old ground (Anfield). Did the original team have a ground before that? It's probably flat's lol

whats crazy is how big man united are. real madrid is probably the only club bigger. people care more about man uniteds ground a century ago than they do man city current grounds. man city is as their best in their history. united is at their worst. theres still a massive difference between the two clubs.

Kind of stuffs one in the face of City fans when they claim that United aren't in Manchester. They started out under the United name not far from where City are now.
