People may not grasp the legend and mystery that is Miles Davis. This is how incredible and unique Miami Vice was 'back in the day'. It drew the most eclectic of personas.
During that week in 1985 when this episode aired, Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice Theme" would hit the #1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. No instrumental TV theme has done so since.
Considering the rather flamboyant comeback that Miles made during the early 80s it was naturally a perfect fit for him to be appearing in an episode of Miami Vice. Still, I would really like to know the back story. Unfortunately he doesn't mention it in his autobiography.
Unfortunate that we didn’t see Ivory Jones after this episode. Truly a really interesting character, would’ve been nice to see him as a recurring character like Lombard.
You skipped the back and forth between Switek and Zito in the van. Zito: Where's Tubbs wearing the mic? Switek: Don't ask. Zito: What's gonna happen when he takes his clothes off? Switek: I'm gonna burn my headphones. They were a great team just like Crockett and Tubbs ♥️
The actor playing Juan Carlos SIlva starting at the 7:05 mark is Jose Perez and I've always liked his work. It's a shame he never went further in his career than he did. He was in a 1984 sitcom called "Steambath" that should have been a hit & was instead canceled after 6 episodes. Was also in the 1985 film "Stick" with Burt Reynolds.
How nice, more vice, Miami! 🌴 "Gonna have to deal with monkey" I and I am jonesin' for thee old vice days.. Little by little. 😃 🌴 in my eye! Mikey from S FLA out.
Its a funny thing about skin complexion and how we perceive things. If you can, look at Miles not with dark skin tone but rather Caucasian fare skin tone. Keep all his physical features exactly the same just mentally change his flesh from black to white. And what you find is a very interesting fact that physically he has none of those often stereotypically defined 'African' features. as a whole he looks like the average southern white male. I've studied this phenomenon for decades as an artist. that our initial knee jerk response to what we perceive is often far off from the truth. And because societal bias towards African Americans especially those most polar opposite to the general ideals of what Caucasians define as beauty is more often than not found in everyone especially those they deem polar opposite. In the case of miles davis, what caucasian celebrities or notable figures does he resemble if he had Caucasian skin complexions. I immediately see some resemblence to Yul Brynner
Miles ain’t playin.
He’s for real.
Love it.
I remember watching this with my mom. She said “see that guy there? He’s a famous trumpet player.” Love my mom.
That was the most interesting story I've ever heard
I agree Duke. You da man!!! I’m a big fan.
I loved your mom a few times for a few minutes.
@@chrishouston3566 thanks bruh. I try

Miles was a surprisingly natural actor. I liked him in this one.

Cocaine will do that

Wow!!!
Jan hammer jammed tho
1992 TV show The Heights theme song hit number one on the charts for two weeks…. song How Do You Talk To An Angle….. not an instrumental though
Miles could have taken up acting in major films.
He was great in this.
Miles Davis playing a pimp, art imitating life. 😁
"I've made other plans" DAMN RIGHT! Aint trying to be fishing like Roberto.

That redhead right at the very beginning 😍
Miles proved he got acting chops as well....🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
What a legend
This is my favorite episode. Miles davis can act
4:14 They got a TRS-80 computer w/ Dual 5 1/4" Floppy Disk Drives. I remember those in my high school during the mid 1980s.
Omg do I look like a travel agent...burst out laughing when Miles said that line. Thanks 4 the clip
“Street Smart....the background ending score is a MASTERPIECE 👀🎷🎷🎷🎼
wow, what a screen presence...i've never seen Miles talk at length before, i just knew about the voice...he used it so well here 👏🏿
Miles Davis, the man who created “The Birth Of The Cool,” appearing on Miami Vice the coolest cop show ever.
Agreed. I 'm a huge Miles Davis fan and of course I have that album plus about thirty others.
He was one of a kind for sure. Wish I would have met him
Unfortunate that we didn’t see Ivory Jones after this episode. Truly a really interesting character, would’ve been nice to see him as a recurring character like Lombard.
Miles will always be cool!!!
Miami Vice was THEE best series of the 80s.
And omg, Sonny Crockett 😍
Thanks for keeping Vice alive!

There will never be another Miles.....
Cool show, cooolest dudes too.
Miles was perfect for the role of Ivory Jones. 👌🏽
ONE OF MY FAVORITE EPISODES... LOVE IT....
*LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOUDERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR,* please.
I'm surprised they were able to get him for that. He was always a pretty eccentric, anti social type.
Even in the 80s, Miami Vice was iconic. Appearing on an episode was as highly regarded as appearing in a Marvel movie, today.
This was Miami Vice, if you were there you’ll know how huge this was.
@@cqtaylor You wouldn‘t see Miles appear in a Marvel movie over his death though
❄️
I didn't know Miles did an episode of Miami Vice 😁
The point when he says we’re Vice”
Just minty!
Rebirth of the cool 😎
Nicely done miles Davis
When I was a kid, Miles Davis was on prime time TV.

When they said they were Miami Vice, he should have said "so what?"

Yeah he drove the van in Stick, I forgot the character's name but he was Ernest Stickly's longtime friend.
@@DarthVader-1701His character name in Stick was Rainy. I couldn't remember either, had to look it up.
That role was definitely made 4 Sir Miles.
MILES DAVIS! LEGEND OF LEGENDS...SALUTE!
I'm bingeing on Miles Davis clips and I'm incredulous at this -- he's a better actor than the rest of the cast.
They should of put Miles in more acting movies.
'Kind of Blue' colors feature prominently in this Episode guest-starring Miles Davis.
They should have played at least a bar of that "kind of blue" solo in those scenes
@@Bruce.-Wayne definitely agreed
A natural. His cast for this role is crazy perfect. Too bad he didn't take up more acting rols.
Coolest cat Miami Vice ever had
I did not recognize him in MV, wow.
Miles davis, the coolest mofo there ever was.

This is cooler than Greenland in December.
Tom Cruise Collateral 2004 Miles Davis 😈
He was cool enough to be persenaly realised by Castillo himself lol
When I saw his name in the credits and him on screen, I about shat myself.
MV's musician guest stars were often better than seasoned actors. Way better.
Why when don Johnson laughed just then, did it sound like tubs laugh?
Watch this evry nite on starz black neva seen this episode 🤔⁉️⁉️⁉️
This was the 2nd season of vice, Starz is been playing Vice for months now
07:05 So we need to ask from J.Lo where she got the time machine.
Ferrari with a GM key lol...
Kit Car..
Miles was Samuel Jackson cool long before Samuel Jackson himself.
Since nobody is bringing up 8:28 in the comments so I’m going to. Sonny… wtf 😭
😂
That portfolio of women was a nice touch at the beginning of the scene. If you pay close attention, it was real pictures of women
Miles Davis had the best cocaine on the planet
