Ah, it seems this I believe is a different take. Unfortunately TCRF didn't differentiate between a cut line and another take for this game. Sorry about that!
I remember Bill literally saying "husky unit: cover the base. Bulldog unit: don't let anything through." But there never was any hint on why there should be two different units. They all just looked the same in their ships. Now as taking a closer look at the endscene with General Pepper suddenly everything makes sense 😂 Thank you for that!
Those tutorial lines from Peppy where he tells you how to do various maneuvers were all replaced by other lines where he just advises you to perform certain actions and the controls are unspoken text in the box. As for the lines where the characters say they're going different directions, there are lines like them in Venom 1. Falco says 'I'll take the left', Peppy says 'I've got the right', and Slippy says 'I'm going left'.
The line that is related to Wolf at 10:49 has been used in the 3DS version of the game, but like you said, it was cut from the game before it was released the first time around, most likely for the reason to not trigger people at the time.

I had played Starwing (seriously, why wasn't it called Starwing 64 in the UK) but this game was so much better. It was my birthday present that year.
This is a very special game to me. The first time i saw a game in 3D. the N64 was the Christmas Present for me and my brother and we got Lylat Wars as well. I found it so impressive and immersive and it gave me a feeling that i can still remember to this day and that i will never forget. Since then i love Space. And also, it was and still is a very good game. one of my favorite of the N64 and still the best Starfox game i played. So i think it was good after all they canceled the SNES title, or we maybe would have gotten a very different game on the N64, or even no Starfox at all.
I imagine we still may have gotten SF64 but later on, like maybe 1999? But I imagine they would try to innovate further or add a new story to it at that point
should just released starfox 2 on snes. it would just hype it up more for when the 64 version finally came. smh. i dont think fans would be put off by it cuz snes was on its last legs and the new 32 bit poly hype which was happening. lots of ppl had snes and loved starfox so it would sold well. gave nintendo more time for starfox on 64.... oh well tho. also the beta elements look way better then the final. especially the hud and boost. also wish they kept the snes arwing design. lol. skinny ones. at least starfox 2 finally got released tho on mini.
The N64 was all about big, new experiences, so on paper, a distinctly arcade-style game that was straight up replicating gameplay from the previous gen sounds like it would have been destined to fail. But the cinematic experience (along with the most brutal rumbling of any game to this day, I'll never forget blowing the train up for the special exit to Macbeth) really was novel in the mid 90s. And we all had our minds blown when we discovered that on-foot multiplayer was real, and not just a recess legend
This was a wonderful video. Very well researched and I even learned a few new things. I hoped for more giga leak content though. I would have loved to see some of the beta levels found for example

More a reimagining of the SNES gane as the level design is different, but yeah we essencially have seen the same story 3 times. I do wish they would just move forward with the story from either Star Fox Zero or the 64 timeline
14:25 there's something weirdly unsettling to hear some enthusiastic voice relay controls to you that you already know how to do like it's supposed to be helpful. I doubt anyone gets what I mean but it feels that way to me. Probably because the element of desperation that SF64 has near the end of the game makes it feel like "this is all up to you"
I've noticed that while N64 early Alphas/Betas like StarFox or Mario Kark R lack detail compared to final titles, they bo appear to run on Highter Screen Resolution than final -versions. It might be difficult to spot on old VCR tapes, but may be Nintendo had games running on Expansion Pack even before N64 was on sale, but games were likely less than 64mbit games on Alpha, hence the lack of detail. So they did go for more detail and speed rather than resolution at the end of the day.
7:51 Not sure if the final design was what was always intended, but that shade of green definitely makes the prototype version look like a Zaku from Gundam, so I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it for legal reasons.
