Having the highest quality primary care is very important, and needs to be addressed more directly. Primary care is the core of where most people make contact with the health care system. While I think that it has gotten better over the years, there is always room for improvement. I think one of the most influential thing about primary care is that the doctors are always focused on beneficence. They have an obligation to help their patients, and normally they genuinely want to do so. Therapeutic relationships, empathy, and respecting autonomy are all important to creating beneficence and having high quality primary care. It is important to get patients home and still support them there. I agree that we definitely need more practice based research networks, and communication with other global health care systems to drive primary care to be the best quality it can in the future. Everyone has questions, and doctors don't always have the answers, but hopefully more research and information can be utilized and we can all continue to learn everyday to save more lives.

The idea of making medicine more personable is extremely important. Making sure each patient is treated like an individual, I believe, could really do wonders for healthcare, especially with research and diagnosing certain diseases or conditions. This idea of improving health care would almost take it back to the times of visiting physicians (hopefully the old practices don't follow), but I think that healthcare almost needs to be reinvented; it has become so impersonal as medicine has advanced and taken new leaps, yes, more people are getting the care they need, but most of it is diagnostic care. Having primary care physicians take on larger roles will increase preventative care and improve health. I think the best way it was said in the video was “innovate care where it actually happens.” This is so important for not only for the benefit of the patient, but also for the doctors as they become more involved to have better personable experiences with medicine and their patients.

This video points at some really great points that many don’t really think to look at when it comes to their health or their families health. For many doctors, nurses, or all healthcare professions to come together it will make a much bigger impact in the health community. It will be a lot greater for patients to feel as though they are being treated as individuals and not being operated on or towards based on their communities health problems as one. By combining with different countries we as our own country can see some things that we are doing differently, that could possibly be wrong. As well, vice versa they could learn a couple of things from us. No country is never too good to not still be able to learn more, to do better for their country. Primary care is also important because so many medical issues can be resolved my many of the professions. It doesn't have to be just one profession solely focusing on one thing. They can all come together and get things done efficiently and better.

Valid points are made in this video regarding the importance of quality Primary care. Today, primary care physicians are less frequent and can be harder for people to get involved with. In most rural, medically underserved communities, patient's will go to the hospital or a Med Express for treatment of their common cold, chronic pain, or diabetes/hypertension. Emergency care is easier access, will accept their insurance, and does not require regular checkups, so patient's may prefer to go there instead. This can lead to late diagnosis of certain diseases as well as an increase in higher acuity patient's because they do not have the resources to have an annual checkup with a physician. I think that before we can focus on improving our current primary care services, we need to find a way to make it more accessible to a majority of the population.

Primary care is an extremely important group in medicine. With the new concept of the "Patient Centered Medical Home" this enables primary care physicians to be the main source of care, sort of a team leader that out-sources to specialists if needed. Primary care is very important because there are a great deal of medical issues that can be taken care of by a PCP. PCP's are also very important in preventative education and continuing care for chronic illness. There is absolutely room for improvement in this field and a lot of great ideas were covered in this video. There is such a shortage of PCP's and they are very much needed and critical to the medical field. Hopefully if more physicians choose to specialize in primary care, there will be better access to people who are at a disadvantage.

For me personally, I completely agree that a primary care physician is crucial. Besides being more affordable, many times a patient will have a better relationship with the primary care physician and not be as intimidated. The patient can in many cases also trust that the best recommendations will be made to them. For a child I see this as especially true because they will begin to understand the physician is there to help them and is the one who makes them feel better. One of the problems a child might have with the physician is knowing that they need to get shots or something else that might hurt them. Hopefully in these cases the physician will do their best to make it a positive experience and build trust with the child. Specialists are definitely still hugely important, but i do feel that a quality care physician is the most important step for any situation.

Thank you D.J.R., building a relationship of trust over time with family physicians is what makes care provided in this setting efficient and effective. Other clinicians in primary care and specialists are very important for many problems but a large range of problems can be dealt with within normal consultations.

I believe primary healthcare is very important. Many feel uncomfortable when is comes to talking about their health but with primary healthcare patients have a way of building relationships and becoming comfortable.I also feel that looking at data from different countries can help improve ours.

Thank you, building relationships of trust that enable provisional decisions to be agreed and reviewed over time is indeed one of the key strengths of primary care.

I think that this video had some great ideas, by coordinating between a practitioner and researchers there will be better chances at finding solutions to the medical sciences and expand research. Plus sharing data between various countries with different healthcare systems can give us suggestions to improve our own. Whether its how to treat disease, ho to run our healthcare practices, reducing chronic disease, or even just different lines of treatment. These can be used to make the front-line of medicine more personal to the patient and improve their treatment care. We have a chance to innovate care before a patient shows up at the hospital if we could do more research and collaborate with other countries.

As a nursing major, it is important to me that primary healthcare is the best it can be. Dr. Mike Evans states, "Countries with the highest quality primary healthcare have the lowest mortality rates." This is a very crucial statement that validates improving our healthcare system will help lead to lower mortality rates. It is important that patients have a personal relationship with one doctor they truly trust with their health issues and personal beliefs. Roughly 60 million Americans lack adequate access to primary care. Making this one-on-one doctor patient relationship more readily available to
Americans is a huge step toward improving our system and decreasing mortality rates.

Why is primary care so important? Simple. It provides patients with preventative care. In other words, a doctor that will equip patients with information to keep them living a healthy lifestyle and prevent problems from arising down the road. Furthermore, patients get to choose who is caring for them, rather then an ER trip or hospital visit, AND they have a physician for life. Lastly, ERs don't always have all the information a primary care physician would, such as health history, family history, current medications and more. All in all, I am a very strong advocate for improving our primary healthcare system so more people have the opportunity to get treated by a physician fit for them.

+Elizabeth Guglielmi primary care is very important however I do believe that as I society changes attention needs to be focused on other distributions of care and treatment. In my onion focusing on things for example follow ups and preventive care is imperative. Looking at how our society has evolved people have more complex lives and health care is one of those things that health care providers have to connect into the lifestyles of patients. For example if we look at people with diabetes or high blood pressure, these are conditions that can be 100% preventable and treatment involves lifestyle changes such as exercise and dieting. We are living in a society where chronic disease are effecting majority of the population.

Studying Occupational Therapy, it is important that the standard due care of primary practice is important. It connects the primary physician with the patient on a primary level. Making medicine more personable will only increase our health care system and make the branches of health care that much more effective. I thought it was interesting that Dr. Evans stated "it is not the access of a MRI machine or fancy specialist, but the country with the higher primary care has the lowest mortality rate." The more access the patient has creates better flow within the health system and is not as costly to the patient. With the technological advancements of the 21st century, it is vital that we connect our networks to help provide the best primary care we possibly can. Not only will health care thrive but the standard of living and life expectancy of individuals will increase as well. The continuum of care has benefited from the networks and connections we have made will linking softwares to other primary care providers and academic researchers to answer top of the line questions. There are endless possibilities that can occur from the standard primary care.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. -Albert Einstein. It is wonderful that primary care physicians are now taking different measures to make the overall care for their patients better. With this concept there will be less hospital visits, less visits to specialists, and more time with your primary care doctors. It is quite insane for primary care doctors to continue to repeat steps like giving antibiotics for a sore throat or sending you to a specialist for a hurt ankle. Now with further research these physicians can take care of or even diagnose more issues right in their office by coordinating with medical researchers. This approach saves money for the patients and makes the primary care more effective.

The "drawing hand" is a major distraction. The short film would be so much better with minimal use of the "drawing hand". I'm part of a study which requires me to watch...the info is good and well presented...but the hand...the hand!
