    The way I'd always heard about purchasing WCW was that Vince McMahon had the right to match anyone else's offer to purchase WCW.
    For those of you familiar with the NFL, it's kind of like a player being a restricted free agent. They were free to peruse any sales arrangement they wanted, but before any offer was finalized Vince had the right to meet that exact offer to purchase WCW. Now given how little Vince paid for WCW,and the stories that claimed Vince was reluctant to even pay that, it's highly doubtful that Vince would have ever matched a legitimate offer to purchase WCW like Bischoff and his investors had put together.

    • @JetForceFive
      @JetForceFive 4 месяца назад +4

      For sure, I remember watching it live and thinking "DX already did this" - but the DX version was infinitely more entertaining. I think Hogan/Nash know they could have sold it better in the ring before actually doing the fingerpoke. Just choosing to do a fingerpoke was probably the major issue with it. They could have done that type of heel title flip in almost any other way and it would have been better. Just DX cross-running the ropes, doing the serious stretching, everything was sarcastic. By the time the change happened, the audience was already fully pissed or fully laughing.

    March 2001?
    Leaving aside the AOL/TW merger, WCW had been horribly mismanaged for years. I'd say late 1998 was actually the beginning of the end. They were in an unprecedented position of power and didn't strengthen. Instead they lost focus and became complacent. They let established and young midcard talent go(Giant, Jericho, X Pac, Radicalz, Raven, Bret, Hall etc)and never replaced them. They let the CW division go to pot. And they failed to invest in young talent and elevate them to main event level.
    Fast forward just 2 years later and their roster is a mess. The opening and midcard is dead, they have no wrestling backbone anymore. And the main event scene is a joke, full of broken down has-beens who had nothing left in the tank. By March 01 things had come to a natural end. The merger was the final nail, but the company was in free fall for years.

    it wasn't the end of wcw but a lot of casuals were turned off. watching it live was comparable to being at a cool party and then you hear sirens. people may attend the party again the next week but they'll be on their toes.

    Nash was white hot AT That time. I have 0 problem with goldberg losing. I do take issue with what they turned around & did after, making a joke of it. When Taker, (Brock didn't "need" the streak) graciously ended his' streak, Brock Crushed Cena. The birth of "suplex city", cuz if Cena kicksout at 3 1/3, Taker's streak means less. So Brock said he was on the phone w/Austin & he said U can't Just go over🤏🏼, it'd be disrespectful. "What if..."

    Bill Goldberg was a two pump chump, I don't mean gross, but he was like Warrior was only good for a minute or so in a wrestling match. The fact is he ended Bret's career. Do I think Bret needs to learn to let it go? Yes, I do. But I think Goldberg began to think of himself as he was the best thing since sliced bread. They really should've sicked Haku on him.

    To me WCW shutting down was the worst thing to happen in the history of wrestling. Without competition WWE got lazy and boring. Given time WCW could have gotten better if they stayed in business. WWE had down times too. Imagine if when Stone Cold left WWE and he went to WCW just to piss off Vince. It could have happened.

    • @KayFabe87
      @KayFabe87 4 месяца назад

      Maybe, but the fact of the matter is that after the merger, the AOL execs did not want the product and were content to let it die by taking it off the air and selling it for a pittance to McMahon. Even if WCW was still getting big ratings, it still would have been eliminated because the wrestling audience was just not as valuable to advertisers no matter how many people were watching.

    It's crazy how dumb or clueless people actually are, a billion dollar business sold one of its assets and the new owner absorbed it... plain and simple. Saying bischoff, hogan and russo destroyed wcw is like saying the 1st mate, chef and butler sank the titanic. Brain damage is cumulative, if Bret has brain damage than it's from 20+ years of wrestling... not 1 kick.

    I probably watched more bad WCW than good WCW. It was a nice break from the WWE. For as good as WWE was they had a lot of bad segments too but made up for it with the main event talent but that midcard was weak.

    Me personally with Goldberg and bret hart would be two talents shouldn’t be in a ring together Goldberg shouldn’t of been in the ring at this point since he was still green at this point I wouldn’t say it was goldbergs fully responsible but in ways obviously he’s the one unfortunately ended harts career but it be one’s who rushed Goldberg training to get into the ring learn on the job type deal

    The issue that's not that u were the most over guy, it's how you did it, that's when I say u use something in planning, that's like saying my money is sure so whatever, u think a burger King worker who save up his minimum wage to see you wrestle and you do that. How does he feels? Again his money from burger King wasn't sure, so he was cheated, it's like the nba when stars get guaranteed money and they choose to sit out games and people pay hard earn money to see him, yes nash that u still haven't gotten, that about you hurts me, because to me you are one of the greatest minds ever in wrestling

    I know I’m just a “mark” but WCW is like anything else. The day someone stops putting money into it, it will fail. WWF/WWE I guess was making money hand over fist because of Austin and Rock but as soon as Austin turned heel and WCW was purchased their shit went down because the competition was what drove the business. So for instance, AEW sucks ass, but as long as they keep blowing cash to keep it on TV, it will stay around even though it sucks. So even if WCW was bought by Eric, it would only stay around as long as the money kept getting thrown in, or if it actually got better which I doubt WCW would have gotten better because it was already fucked at that point I feel. So bottom line is, as long as someone keeps putting money into any business it will never go away, but that doesn’t mean it’s making money. My wife works for the wrigleys and they keep pouring money into shit that doesn’t make any, but they just want to keep them around.

    Just taking a man money and no returns and loosing for years, you Kev thinks that will happen forever, hogan helped killed wcw with creative control, Easy E killed wcw cause he gave away all that money, poke of doom all who is involved, nash as a genius he is never pushed to push Bret to world champ immediately and I think that's the undertaker, bret incident, that's what killed WCW
