I saw the movie 2 weeks ago and can't get enough of these guys! The are fantastic! No fancy harmonies, just singing with such gusto and joy. I love the shanties!
Thanks fellows...my dad would sing Grandfather's Clock to us when we were children. He passed on in late 2017 at 97. His dad was a Port Isaac fisherman, and we went back to Port Isaac in 2009. Six of the group are related to us by blood or by marriage. My dad loved your CD's. Hope to see the boys sometime.
Online it says this about the song - "Grand-Father's Clock" was first published in 1876. "My Grandfather's Clock" is a song written in 1876 by Henry Clay Work, the author of "Marching Through Georgia". It is a standard of British brass bands and colliery bands, and is also popular in bluegrass music. The Oxford English Dictionary says the song was the origin of the term "grandfather clock" for a longcase clock.[1] In 1905, the earliest known recording of this song was performed by Harry Macdonough and the Haydn Quartet (known then as the "Edison Quartet").
Thank you! My little sister had a Fisher Price clock that played this song, but this is the first time I heard it through! (I found the lyrics to the first stanza long ago, but no more. Also, this was the first time I ever heard so many lyrics to Old Time Religion.
I am 42 and I still have my Tick Tock Clock tucked away in storage. I thought I was the only one who remembered that Fisher-Price toy. That toy is the whole reason I clicked on this song
I haven't heard this since I was 10 years old I'm 47 now! My mum had it on a record! WOW! 🙊 I used to sing it to my daughter who is now 10 when she was a baby! Slightly different 2nd half though. X
Love these songs. I want a t-shirt! Or a magnet? LOL. Merch merch. Money money. The cars in the video are certainly nice, but I do wish we could see more water! 2021 and I just saw the movie. My Grandpa was a crab fisherman but he and several relatives tragically drowned when Mom was a baby. You guys and your community help me daydream a little about what life could have been like. I've been crying all morning LOL. Keep The Melodies alive! ...After the fishing, of course
im going back on may of 2024 and hope to meet Jeremy and love the beauty of port Isaac
Absolutely the best music l have heard in a long time
I used to listen to this song with my grandparents and it was sung by Foster and Allen. Fantastic song
I only just discovered the film. I fell into a fisherman’s friends black hole, now I have tickets to see them live...love them!
