I came up with this hybrid rudiment in my quest to add a more Elvin Jones or Philly Joe Jones vibe to Jazz, Shuffle or Funk situations. In this lesson, I explain why I named this rhythmic phrase "The What-Ya-Ma-Call-It” and break it down on the snare drum to its fundamental aspects. I also show you how to apply this idea around the kit with different voicings in different styles and musical contexts.
