it does not happen, when FCI grains are intentionally wasted to sell it to beer companies, when food supply chains are overtaken by corporate companies, see adani group offering 8 to 12 rupees per kilo of apples, here is hyderabad, on street, each apple is sold at 10 rupees.
and these corporate companies are justifying that, they are doubling their income with their tongue just like modi.
food inflation is so high in india, dal cost is 100 rupees in upa govt, now crossed 200 rupees.
corporate companies eyes are on food, because 140 crore people should eat day in and day out. when they grip it, profit is their only motive suck all blood from farmers and customers.

@kpkdhar 36 One of the reasons for the new farm laws is increasing the production of protein and vitamin-rich foods like pulses and vegetables. If they are more in supply lesser the cost. If govt. is giving rice and wheat for free because its production is too much. Corporate sector involvement is required and there are other pros for corporate funding as well.

As someone who’s involved in the poultry industry. There has been several occasions when we have told governments to introduce eggs in mid day meals and even we are ready to cut down our profits in this. But the state govts especially in Hindi heartland where these problems are much more prominent seldom implement it, which is quite unfortunate. We Indians have to look differently on how we consume our food and which macronutrients we are incorporating otherwise this problem will only get worse.

Because India is such a large country, India does well when data is presented in aggregate manner rather than per capita. This makes people believe that India is a super power. Truth is much of North India is doing very badly of every economic, social and health related index when seen at per capita level. It is height of sin to leave cows as vagabonds to fend for themselves. Domesticated animals have lost ability to forage for their food. And with the dwindling grass patches (no stall fed cow gets green grass or a few times a week at the most). Cow is a pet as well as economic means. In keeping with the ethics enunciated in scriptures one is obliged to keep it till its last day. If unable to feed it is better to send it to slaughter even. Once upon a time a dying cow (or bull) is waited & after the death the "avarna" castes were called to clear it, as a matter of right. They carry it when its still fresh after death, eat it & remove its skin to make treated hides & its products. Thus these lowest of the low castes get a fairly good nutritional protein, unlike most others. Now that tradition is lost. What objection is there in eating the dead cattle (without delaying)?

@@ThePrintIndiaLots of my Indian brothers are saying "how is poor Nepal better than us in hunger index?"
Firstly Nepal and India's living standards are not that different. If you look at HDI we are almost same. It's because your one thousand billionaire is your per capita GDP big and it is not that huge from Nepal with 1000$ difference.
Also the hunger index has nothing to do with economy as it is not indicative of starvation but dietary culture.
For example in Nepal we have a tradition to cut a male rooster so that the first meal for pregnant lady would be its soup.
We call it " sutkeri ko bhaale"
Also in Nepal cow slaughter is punishable by 20 years in prison.
But water buffalo meat is not only legal but ubiquitous.
So most Nepali people even the poorest porters would have good source of protein.

@@BruceWayne-qe7bs I don't think so. Beef ban always existed and just a bit more enforcement of this one policy in a few areas won't make a nationwide difference.
As I said, this is because of their mindless policies during Corona because of which poverty, unemployment increased. No country in the world had total lockdown as strict as ours. People warned him to do a targeted lockdown only in affected areas (when cases in entire country were ~600 he shut down entire states where there was no corona, it was madness). Then when cases increased to 90K/ day they open the economy. Zero consultation from any scientific task force, NHRC, states etc.
Unemployment was at 45 year high even before corona. Our economy dropped by 20% because of this lockdown, again highest drop in the world. Growth rate before corona had already come down to 3%.
This sharp increase in hunger index is purely because of economic mismanagement, which began even before corona.

Many middle class homes including mine are now serviced by chineese made machines(vaccum bots and dish washers) instead of house maids. This has impacted incomes of lots of people making their diets further frugal. Closure of schools has shut off mid day meal schemes taking away whatever little was delivered through that means. Between the vegetarian diet imposed by religious considerations and genuine concerns of meat in the diet fueling global climate change we need a plausible and palatable solution. A combination of eggs, pulses and soya seems a good bet.

Endogamy reason is bullshit. Why are people in nauru and other pacific islands, middle east are obese and over weight? No protein in diet logic doesnt hold too since even vegetarianism provides protein. Government doesnt spend money on free protein for poor kids or adults either in vegetarian or non vegetarian since it doesnt fetch them immediate votes. Poor and underprivileged people have worst attitudes towards food choices and honestly act like dumb shits with no intention to even act on advice. Government needs to bring change in their mentality towards how they eat food. Lack of sports culture is true. could be a reason for lack of fitness and bad health

Darwinian theory of survival of fittest applies to genes as well. If a population that is short and diabetic keeps intermarrying then the chances are that the resultant progeny will carry over these weak genes rather than eliminate them. Veg sources of protiens are present but the non vegetarian sources are much more concentrated and in my personal experience of physical training you need optimal doses of meat, fish and egg in your diet for both performance and recovery. You will need to eat much more quantity of veg protien food to get the same effect as eating a little of meat/egg/fish.

If you think this is due to the policy for last 10 years then you are delusional... Look at or peer countries who got freedom during the same time we got.... Singapore, China, South Korea (Iam not including Pakistan because I think we should start comparing ourself with something better)... These countries are where they are because of policies taken by successive govts... I am not defending the current govt... But this has been ignored for a long time by successive govts...and i dont understand why we always mark the Pvt companies as villains.... Its high time we come out of our socialist mentality... Otherwise we will never have global giants like apple alibaba, Microsoft, Google, Samsung.... Its important to have big corporation for the economy...

Good analysis. But I am strongly against the fact that meat-eating can enhance nourishment, if this would be fact that vegetarian states like Haryana, Rajasthan and Gurjat would have been malnourished , which is not the case. In fact meat-eating causes more environmental problems.

Fact is that India is nutritionally way below Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan & Bangladesh. How can you explain it. Don't come back & say this report is all lies. I am interested in knowing why India is way below all of them, for whom the same (that you say faulty) methodology has been applied too.
Fact remains that Indain children are horribly malnutritioned. Do you feel that their condition needs correction or not? Or we should assume they 're hale & hearty to grow as young men (& women) to go & defend our border at such lofty heights, like nowhere else. A soldier who suffered malnutrition will be effective to guard our border?

@@MrPoornakumar Dear sir, I just told that I am against the fact that meat-eating will improve nutrition requirements. And Yes there is flaw in the methodology of Global Hunger Index due to which meat-eating countries are at better score. It is unbelievable at all that Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal have better condition then India .

This is even more disappointing considering that, mathematically, India produces more food grains annually than it actually needs, yet a large portion of those food grains never really reach the poor sections of the population because those are rotting in government godowns due to rampant corruption and leaky redistribution systems

The Indians in general hardly understand Nepal, I think. Why they like to portray Nepal as a poor country is beyond my comprehension. We have a population of around 3 crore and the birthrate is not even 2/couple. Control in free movement of people from India and the rest of the restive neighbourhood through India could surely have brought the population down, apart from allaying your national security concerns. We could fare far better if India stopped the inflow of Rohingyas and other displaced populations into Nepal through the open border. A huge relief it could be for Nepal if India relaxed her vice-like grip into our lifelines -- our major rivers -- and stopped plotting against Nepal and the Nepalis by allying with the west in a desperate bid to counter China.
Please bear in mind that controlling border movement will be in the best interest of Nepal and India as it will keep off anti-Indian elements from Nepal and also stem anti-India sentiments.
Ever ready for enlightening discussions...... Apologies if I hurt Indian sentiments... You guys are our friends and neighbours. My only request to empathise a bit more with Nepal, which seats on a very important geopolitical location and is finding it not so easy to address competing foreign interests, often at the expense of her national interests.
