A very serious error when switching to close combat. When you turn on vertical scanning, you use the ТПРЛ mode, but in this mode, the locking range is limited to 10 km. For full locking range at 20+km, use ТП mode or РЛ mode, but never use ТПРЛ.
A big thing about the flankers, is that your missiles are faster and also longer range. You just gotta learn that the first missile is mostly to convince them to fire a missile outside their own range while they defend, and then fire a deadlier missile in the follow up. Once you see your first missile has sent them defensive that missile has done its job, and you should focus on setting up the next while defending theirs. Your missile also can and will kill them from like 10km longer than rmax if they disrespect it, and the flanker has more than enough missiles for one fight, so don't worry about the Longshots. Another fun flanker thing is that the rwrs signal strength indicator can be used to find out if a missile is dangerous still. As the fox 3 gets closer the signal strength will grow, and while your defending if you see the missiles strength isn't increasing anymore, you know the missile is beat and you may recommit. You also can see the heading of the opponents plane when locked, so if you see them turn cold that's a good indicator that you have a chance to do some stealth bullshit while they hope the amraam scares you. Just pop below the hills to dodge the amraam and pop back up some distance away from where they expect you with an ir lock. I'm gonna toss a recommendation your way, if you'd like some examples on bvr, check out sukhoi gaming channel. I've got a positive k/d in my flanker following his bvr guides. Unfortunately he doesn't do commentary on his videos, so you do need to be pretty fast and already knowledgeable to really follow along well.
Soviet, and now Russian, method of BVR was to fire a mixed long-range salvo: fox-1 and fox-2 against a single target. It made defending more of a pain because defending is obviously is rather different between SARH and IR.
@@S1lverspike It's a logical thing: make the enemy start maneuvering to defeat SAHR, and in turn expose the REAR of the plane to the IR seeker. Also when defending, use of afterburner is commonplace, which makes the IR missile all the happier with a FAR fatter IR signature to chase. And as you said the guy on the receiving end has no idea that there is a SECOND missile inbound :D Unless he has MAWS which is another discussion :)
A little late to this party… If fighter plane’s effectiveness was based on appearance alone, the Flanker would be the deadliest plane in the sky. Great flying LS.
Agreed. It looks menacing. Sure it’s not gonna be effective anymore against the new stealth fighters, but being used by dozens of air forces world wide, it’s truly the Swiss Army knife of fighter jets. Still gets the job done in Ukraine.
I love the Su-27 and play it alot! I have a bit if questions for this video: when defending the first AMRAAM shot you are cranked then go cold breaking the lock, what if instead of going cold you crank back the other way? I know it's pretty aggressive but I feel especially with the first AMRAAM you should have room to do that And I might be mistaken but I never saw you utilize the changing of radar scan zones left and right, would have made for faster engagements when picking the bandit back up when recommitting. Was curious as to why not use this?
I sometimes use the scan zonez to the sides, this time i didnt because i wanted to use the terrain more, so my nose hot when recommit. I think i did cranck to both sides trying to be more aggresive, it can be done, but it is more risky. Against AIM120C, I think I would not do It.

I swear, you can pick random su27 video from the most popular yt dcs creators and they all every single one dont know basic stuff how to use that plane. Longshot, first it's so cool that you reply to the comments. I've been watching your viddies, and I've heard you say that the radar want looking in the right place. Or you were aiming the radar to look high in the sky. I assumed that the radar could see everything in front of you. ...... So how much of the sky can radar see? 90°s , less?
I would have tried to make advantage of the higher service ceiling of the SU-27. I don't know, if that could compensate for the loadout imbalance, but one thing is sure. The vide would have been shorter :D
you Gs and shotgun need to take on the foxhounds again maybe try and find enough to fly either a 4 man wing to get to the merge those missiles screaming in on the notch was amazing
There was a dubstep song/album that basically had Longshot's logo as the cover art... anyone know what I'm talking about? I can't remember and it bugs me.
Does the US have missiles with "Photo Lock" Most missiles are heat seekers but what about a missile that locks on to the picture of a jet. Like if the missile can just follow the jet around because it knows what a jet looks like. Do we have that technology yet?
