this is insanely good, I love the fact that its pretty much just bass and drums, and the cello and the violin make it so melodic and beautiful. Mind = Blown
Absolutely excellent tune, and as a drummer, this is brilliant, especially the use of cymbals. So much more space without guitars. I hope for another album and tour.
My pick for the greatest fucking song of all time for sure. I think I've spent more calories air-drumming to this than I did in all PE classes combined. The lyrics are sublime and very interesting and enlightening on their own, Al's singing is a blessing. I need more of this for sure.
True. But I saw Sleep's live performances, Al's voice is like not feeling it anymore. I think they changed their sound because of it. Sleep is basically Om with an electric guitar nowadays.
I was finally able to see them a couple months ago. The only thing I can say it was uplifting and such a feeling of oneness from the audience. One guy kept thanking them after every song, which o found appropriate. Like bowing to a teacher.

If I had a soul, this is the song that would crush it into pieces... but the crushing itself would be the saddest, the sweetest piece-shattering feeling of wholesomeness, like the feeling you get when something unimaginably beautiful, makes you want to get out of your skin, just to get back in it once you understand you've had the honor of living or listening through something like this.. this song is pure darkness, deep and slow, it gets to you...
It is so nice to see orchestral instruments used in ways that don't weaken the song or make is somehow gimmicky. I saw a band called Disemballerina (don't judge by the name, they're really good) that did this really well. I'd say they're like chamber music with a dark doomy heart; very metal.

The fact that Al is wearing a Fly By Night shirt makes this even better.
While playing on a Fender Rickenbacker bass, the same kind of bass Geddy Lee actually used on the album.
