I actually ask myself the same question. No clue how I did it and then practiced law for 8+ years before finally being diagnosed. When I watched her video explaining her experience, I cannot explain how seen I felt. Now I just fight the frustration of knowing that I shouldn't have been so self critical all those years. It was actually basically a miracle I made it through.
Dr. Amen and Mel Robbins. Love her. It's amazing how trauma gets stored in the body after so many decades and excacerbates pre-existing mental health conditions.
I love her for doing this. This info is transformative. Every researcher in the the field of neurobiology knows this, but nobody listens to scientist and medical professionals but people do listen to celebrities, it is so important that these courageous people are doing this. One of the best episodes, still waiting for Christiano Ronaldo and Simon Biles episode🙏
I love that Mel shares so openly and honestly. Everything she describes points to these incidents - still being stored somatically ie, in the body, as well as in the brain. I wonder if she's ever explored Somatic Experiencing to process and actually release the impact of these experiences?
Best one yet, because of the 2 scans and because its the most like me. I remember in school just thinking of certain types of school work had the mental feeling of my skin crawling.
Sorry to burst your bubble but it is not a great explanation of ADD. Far better explanations exist. For starters it’s not even called ADD anymore. AD/HD is the most updated term. Even that is a poor term and is misleading.
Mel, I have started listening to your utube clips over the last three weeks and just during this small amount of time, it have started changing so much in my life. My daughter has been trying to tell me over the last year that I am adhd. I I alwaysknew or suspected but did notwant to deal with it. I am way too busy and not in the mood to swallow any more pills. Well today I have been rushed to hospital for a suspicion of a stroke. While waiting for the docs... and being in South Africa, I have time on my hands to watch another clip. So I decided to face the adhd. So much resonates and it is very interesting. But there is no way I am leaving my wine or gummies.🙈😂 Thank you for your beautiful messages and hope that you give to others😊 You are an inspiration to others🤗
I have seen Dr. Amen's shows on neurology and the brain. He has reduced some forms of serious mental illness and disorders into treatable problems by studying the brain.
Dang..I like how you explained...I didn't know that. No one ever explained it to me like that. It makes HUGE sense to me, thank you. Now HOW to get help?

Hello and thank you for sharing. An observation about a student who during an exam stays attentive and focused on the problematics presentation. What's happens in his brain while he listen ? Everything, he acknowledges the concept first, then the different perspectives, thinks about the reasons and the answers, about problematic's subjects and objects moral and ethics, from the self and the awareness of the self, observes different selves, in self and in awareness. It isn't very intense emotionally but on the level of information quantity that flows through his brain, his analysis of what's happening is delivered as a kind of knowing, an intuition, decision, very quickly. A jury member starts to speak and for a moment, the student hears a noise only, can't recognize the language they use (!) at this moment nor the meaning of what is said (!) all this in maybe sec but still. The PC is blocked or is it something else ? He said it happens sometimes, well often. He doesn't know if he has any ability to exchange with others or he immediately knows the answer for him ? The situation seems managed exactly like in a lucid dream yet it is "only" a social problem but how can he functioning with others that use other paths, feels frustrated
@@soupergiffy Then how she did get through college with undiagnosed ADD? Studying law requires lots of reading and concentrating on very very boring subjects
Maybe she had really good instructors and a natural interest in law…. She seems smart enough to learn adaptations and she probably had a great support system. These things helped me with my undiagnosed College Degree in Economics. I would love to learn about her experience.
@@KevanKChannel I did really well in college. All last minute, late night cram sessions or paper writing. ADHD from my experience frequently accompanies people who find scholastics “easy/boring”. I also excelled in my career. Until I got bored. It’s complicated
Omg y’all are funny loved when she told u abt her drinking u just threw your hands up! This is incredibly interesting. I need to be your patient I stopped using opiates 5 years ago got put on adderall and suboxone now I’m finally fully functioning. Teaching art and no longer depressed! But I’d be so interested to know how much damage my brain suffered from 20 years of addiction.
Thankyou so much ☺️ I watched your video about getting outside everyday for exercise do it as if your life depends on it so true and that's one thing I have not been doing, I'm very spiritual too and follow mostiversity and Jesus has a plan for me spirituality I talk to God he is my saviour ☺️.
Hi I'm seeing a local neurologist this week to talk about ADHD possibility. I have EEG results ready to go with me, do I need to also take like ultrasonic dopplerography, or MRI or something else? Likelihood of getting ADHD diagnosis in my country are low but I still want an assessment.
😢 Mel. Sounds like trauma is part of life these days & those days. My self esteem to was from traumatic things in life. Even my dreams I shouldn't have shared with a younger sister. Was done by her. Weird even retail stores I was going to apply for she got a job there before I could apply. Told my mothe my plans. Big mistake.. Giving up just seemed normal. Yeah, spending Thanksgiving with a woman who's alone me. Was invited by my other sister. Life around family toxic. Also falling in love is a great feeling but it's why people cheat too. Wish that feeling could come back. Slim picking.
Am I the only one who sees how short sighted this is? The more you concentrate, the less brain activity -> solution: adderals. I mean, come on. Modern medicine is beautiful but also so flawed and barbaric in the way we use it. This is a great example. A better way would be to figure out how to fix or cope WITHOUT adderals, but that doesn't get you profits now does it.
Goodness me Mel, how did you get thru law school with a brain that turns off when it needs to turn on?? What a legend you are!
That's probably why the anxiety set in right a out then. I can't imagine anything more mentally stressful than lawschool.

When did she got diagnosed with ADD/ADHD? She said she was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder at age of 22 but no word about ADD/ADHD
When she described her relationships and needing to keep falling love - it’s common ADD he said he finds in females
