Going to order some big tubes of primary colours. Love the limited palette approach because it also saves on buying so many different colours which gets pricey.
A Unicorn she uses only red, yellow and blue, mixed with brown and white. That's exactly what she said to do. And it's exactly what I did and have done ever since. Literally don't buy any other colours now because you don't need to. Saves money because you can literally mix any colour with this palette. I used to buy oil colour sets that had loads of different colours and it's a waste of money.
thatotheradele I didn't read that paragraph but I just realized she said that in another video. Basically, don't buy huge ass tubes because it's a waste of money, I wasn't talking about colors I meant size.
This paint mixing method for a palette is far more to-the-point than the method I was taught when I was a teenager. Sometimes I felt like I spent more time mixing than painting. Now, this is so much easier. Thank you, Daria. You are an angel!
I watch this video every time I return to painting as I seem to forget how to mix skin tones if I’ve been away a while. It has been invaluable to me, and I appreciate it so much. Thank you.
Yessss!!! I've been waiting for this video! I absolutely love your color choices in your paintings so I'm surprised that you only use the basic palette colors. Thank you for the upload :)
I just watching these because I learned that you don’t have to buy skin toned acrylic paint. You can just use your primary colors to make flesh tones which is extremely easy! I’m all good now because of your work! Thank you❤️
Teddjy I don't think you can make things look super realistic in a short length of time. When you paint or draw you have to take time for your own perfection of your drawing :)
I've only recently found your channel maybe about 4 or 5 months ago. But I am so impressed by your talent. You are truly gifted. I know you've probably been told that before but not by me. You are talented and I always love the finished painting. Thank you for sharing your gift.
The color mix is simple. I've watched a lot of different videos, read books, etc, this is the one of the best approach to mix colors for portraits. Simple and powerful. When I find myself struggling with the right colors and I go back to this video. There are different approaches to this, but the simplists is where I go. Learning this has helped out with establishing the right procedure to figuring out the colors. While other videos are a bit to complex and doesn't always fit the situation, this approach will get you there. But spending time and practice, my go to is here. Thank you
All of your tips & advice on painting are so helpful! I'd love to know if you have any tips on a good way to precisely paint hair & such. I know all that you've said so far your videos have helped tons!
Limited palettes are great, just remember to experiment with your choice of primaries. I've found the traditional primaries give me more natural tones where the yellow, cyan, and magenta version seems to give more vibrant secondary and tertiary colors. I only use primaries plus brown, white, and occasionally black or special colors outside of the range of primaries alone.
Wow! This is exactly what I needed. Absolutely brilliant presentation,and,Oh!.... so pleasant to listen to. Well done, Daria Callie. Your approach is incredible. Time to search all your videos. Amazing work..
I’m still a beginner at oil painting because I go on and off with it. I was using this limited pallet for a long time and it was great but one thing to consider for other new painters like myself is that pigments may not mix the way you expect them to! Sometimes it’s very helpful to test color mixes before hand with your primaries to see what types of colors they can create. For example, when I mixed cadmium red and ultramarine blue, instead of making the expected purple, the color was blackish and dull because of the high tinting strength of both paints and the way that the specific pigments mixed. When I did a similar mix replacing the red with alizarin crimson it made a lovely dark purple. If you’re new to painting and haven’t done a test to see what secondary colors the primaries in your pallets mix i really recommend it. It was very helpful not only to make saturated high chroma secondary colors, it also showed me which paints where best to mix in if I wanted to mute another color.
I just signed up for your 30 day portrait class. I am excited to learn to use this basic palette which is so much more simple than the complicated one I have been using for several years. Thanking you for sharing all this great information!
Thank you for Sharing your precious knowledge about mixing skin tones. It helped me a lot with my portraits painting. You’re blessed with a great talent. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I finally found you! So excited! I am going to watch everything you've made. Daria, I actually realized I have a question. Have you ever used refined poppy oil? I bought some at the art store (Old Holland Brand) and now have no idea if I should use it by itself or mix it with another medium(?) I am really new to this and oil painting mediums baffle me.
your video's are so peaceful and you're so crazy talented! you're definitely going to be the reason i get more into art. and omg i want a glass palette
thank you for these! i remember trying to find tutorials on oils ages ago, but now i found you, though i don't necessarily need as much assistance as before since i just went for it lmao
There’s a safe palette you can order or buy at any brick and mortar shop that doesn’t break easily. The brand is called new wave - tempered glass palette.
Tip: If you change the red and the blue for magenta and cyan, you can have bright colors and still have the red and blue by mixing. Also, with the complementary colors you can always tone down everything in case of need.
Very Informative on this subject matter . the first on my books I been looking for so long , thanks for posting and giving your time as well as your beautiful and Amazing work,. Thank you. ❤💕 Your New Subscriber. .

I didn't see that video but I have saved money this way myself, rather than constantly buying small tubes that run out fast.
Aurora_Hale_ so how many ml are bigger tubes? I can’t find them anywhere 🙈 Where did you buy them?
