I like the Folk-Power Metal style.
These are all very different from the normal elvenking... while i listened to all of them and then followed up on the bands i liked by searching for other songs, i can only add Leprechaun to my list... A Major thanks to you Folklover.
thank you sir for showing me the beauty that is Wuthering Heights, i'd never heard of them untill about half a year ago when I watched this video. I instantly fell in love with their unique music! far from the madding crowd & the shadow cabinet are pure masterpieces!

Great video! All these "you forgot finntroll/eluveitie/etc. (which aren't even POWER/folk metal)" comments are pretty annoying! Anyway, if you don't know them yet, check out: Lorien, Minotaurus, The Storyteller, Logar's Diary, Human Fortress (the album "Lord of Earth and Heaven's Heir), Celtic Legacy, Arryan Path and Nine Fears to complete probably a second part of this great series?

Pirate metal is not a genre, but just a lyrical theme, bands such as Alestorm, Running Wild, Swashbuckle, also the song "Waves of War" by Crystal Eyes could be considered pirate metal
the only band i can think of that incorporates pirate-styled folk music is Alestorm, the originators of the 'genre' Running Wild are pretty much just straight up power metal with pirate-themed lyrics.
jesper, Alestorm's keyboardist /frontman always says that Alestorm is a scottish pirate metal band..
are ye goingt o challenge him on that point?

Alestorm - pirate metal
Not entirely; Pagan Metal, Pirate Metal, Battle Metal, Juglar Metal (Minstrel Metal) and more like these; are words used to denominate the lyrical issues of the band. The genres used to denominate the melody are Folk Metal, Celtic Metal, Oriental Metal, etc.
For example, Cruachan is Folk Black Metal but refered with the lyrics is Pagan Metal; Saurom is Folk Power Metal but refered with the lyrics is Minstrel Metal (or in Spanish, Juglar Metal)...
Pagan Metal isn't a genre, like Pirate Metal, both names were invented by people to denominate some bands. Also the Battle Metal (like Turisas) is not real. By the name of Pagan Metal are called the bands that represent, that sing about pagan cultures like Celts, Vikings, &c.
I recommend you, if you want, to visit the web Map of Metal with all genres and subgenres of Rock and Metal. It's a very good page with some songs to listen to.
@MegaGod2 There's no such thing as "pirate metal", they just name themselves that to branch off from the rest but there's no such thing. Otherwise Slough Feg would be Tribal Metal or something like that.

Pirate Metal does not exist officially cause there are just 2 known bands about pirates, and one of them is a bunch of fat guys screaming 'cough-swashbuckle.-cough.

And what makes them pirate metal? Now please don't say, they are pirate metal, because they sing about pirates... Pirate Metal isn't a real genre. It is just a word, which Alestorm use to describe their music.

I like most of these bands. Hey, Slough Feg are more a traditional metal band than a power metal one, same thing for Airged L'amh . They are awesome bands, among my favourites, but I don't really think they should be in this compilation.
Pirate Metal and Viking metal are really just Power Metal and Death Metal with different themed lyrics. Where as Power Metal is generally about Medieval fantasy and Death metal is generally about morbidness and harm to others.

You can say what you want, but Alestorm will always be Pirate Metal instead of folk metal for me.
I just need korpiklaani to survive, but it doesn't hurt to listen to these bands!
