we show 1 way to roll up old barbed wire by hand. if you buy an older piece of property and have to remove fence this will aid you in removing and disposing of old wire neatly.

Make a bigger loop and roll it on the ground. You can roll the whole fence and not have to carry the weight.

Yup, works great as shown. I just did 3 strands of 6yr. old barb wire about 1/8 mi. long that way to reuse later. I found it easier to roll on top instead of from below as shown but whatever works. I had to hold it up as shown to keep leaves from gathering in roll. I did the bottom wire first so it didn't catch on lower wire and also used smooth 17 ga. wire now and then to keep roll from unwinding. Just roll it up till it's too heavy and bulky then cut it as it's no big deal to splice rolls back together. New, good quality leather gloves are a must. Great video, Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, sometimes we roll on top as well. Whatever the mood hits us, I guess. Good leather is right, but they don't stay new very long....haha. right? 😁
      thanks again. 👍

@@dusttodusthomestead I noticed after rolling that much up the leather was getting chewed up allowing the barbs to get caught on the gloves so need a new pair. The gloves are still fine for normal use so not a total loss. I really thought I needed to make up something to roll it up but your way worked fine for this amount. My good neighbor bought the 65 acres to pasture cows next to mine so taking out my barb cause he prefers high tinsel smooth. So i'm paying materials and he's installing. He has a hydraulic hammer on his skid loader which pounds wood post super fast and easy. Thanks and greetings from Battle Creek, Mi.

@jefffrayer8238 thanks. I like high tensile wire as well. If done right can be a very effective fence. We have a mechanical roller for longer stretches of barbed wire, but usually use the hand method on shorter stretches. It's nice to have neighbors that work well with each other. 👍 Battle creek, MI 👍 thanks and hello from Idaho. 👋

Never occurred to me to leave one end attached! Duh! Nothing like having the end snap you in the face. I wear full face sheild but today it got me in the leg. Have had my tetanus shot. I've been wrapping it around my saw buck but this is a more elegant solution! Thank you.

Haha. Oh yeah, we've had it flip around back in the day before we did it this way. Thanks, glad it might make it easier. 👍🙂
