On the homestead, you have to be frugal from time to time in order to do projects. This is just one example of getting a good deal in order to better our facilities. Shaping up good Josh. Tator doesn't know his own strength.
Building mountains, always wondered how that is done.
@@joehackney4828 haha. Just keep piling it up and eventually....😄
Looks a lot better cleaned up. Tator sure is a good looking bull. He will be ready when the cows come home.
@@genewileyopa yep. Tater will be happy to have some company. But I told him maybe next time he won't break out and run down to the neighbors. Haha
Interesting. I didn't know they were sticky.
@OpenAirAdventure yeah. I had read that the sunflower produces sap in order to attract predatory insects like ants and wasps to keep insects away that would eat the plant. 🤔 interesting. I wish I would have learned that fact before I made video....haha oh well, now I know 😄🤷
I never thought about feeding them to the chickens. When you roast them can you eat the shell and all or just the seed?
@@genewileyopa yep. Chickens love them. I only eat the seed when roasted. But I think i won't be roasting any this year. Chickens will get them all this time 👍🏻
Gotta watch out for those wasps and yellow jackets. 😮
Ya, if ya can get another winter out of the lean to, then it's money saved. I'm looking forward to having a cookout with ya. I'm not sure if it's available in your area but I use Avamys prescription nose spray. It doesn't work fast like dristan, it takes a couple of weeks. Two sprays up each nostril twice a week. Amazing stuff.
@OpenAirAdventure have not heard of avamys....I'll check into it. Thanks. Be nice to have a cookout and an adventure for sure. 👍🏻
would love to see the cooking outside, do you guys have room for a pantry to store canned and dry goods
@@sherryhumphrey3868 we have some room, but i would love to build a root cellar in the future. 🤞🙂
Hello Josh. I mentioned Lime. That's what we used when I worked at a cattle feed lot. thousands of head walked on it and it last quite awhile. Wouldn't think it would be to expensive. Once it gets packed down, she is hard. I would take the manure and make a mound for the cattle to lay on. Mix some dry dirt and manure together and would work great. I always enjoyed your cook outs in the mountains when you were hunting. Thanks Josh.
@@genewileyopa i remember you mentioning that. And I did buy some earlier this year. How much do I put down? Mixed with the dirt?
@@dusttodusthomestead The manure was mixed with dirt to make the mound for the cattle to lay on. The hole you have by the feeder. Clean it out of the loose stuff and fill it up to the level you want. They will pack it. You can with the tractor some to get it started. The cattle will keep it packed after that. It worked for us. Don't see why it wouldn't for you.
Almost time to bring the cows home. 🤷
Glad u found some hay for a few good meals. Love the scenery out there. Beautiful fall colors. ❤️
@marcamp5450 thank you. Yeah, the fall colors sure are bright this year. Always makes me feel good. Love fall time. 👍🏻🙂
Seems like ya got yourself a good deal right there. A few more of those would be nice for sure. Hopefully it keeps up. And it's Tator approved 👌
@OpenAirAdventure it looks like it will do just fine. Couple more weeks, and I might pull them out and bring them home.
That’s awesome 👏🏻
@@Ranchtofire 😄👍🏻
Well good for you. It does look like nice bales for the cattle. Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together. Cows will be happy.
@@genewileyopa thanks. Sure do. Cows will be happy with some good grass hay. 👍🏻
Don’t look bad at all for year old I see the leaves are starting to turn same here
@fatefarmspa been a weird September and October so far, but looks like fall is starting to arrive everywhere.
Should work good. Ill probably get some goos alfalfa hay for middle of winter. 👍🏻
That old Ford alone makes this video awesome. Then add cows, hay, and field, along with a great host. My dad had a few of those. My brother sold a 79 not to long-term ago. It had its original paint. You guys yellowed up fast this year.
@OpenAirAdventure oh thank you. They were neat old trucks for sure. I really enjoy the truck when I get a chance to drive it. The leaves have turned color quickly. Cold nights and warm days have done them good, I guess. Because sometimes it turns off cold and the leaves turn and fall before we can enjoy them. 👍🏻
Gotta love those old trucks! And the leaves are blazing with color. 👍🏻
O ya those old trucks are neat. Have a sound there own. That is some beautiful scenery 6:10 of the video, those trees are so bright. Thanks Josh
Thanks Gene. I love those old trucks. Reminds me of the good old days. You're right. The sun was bright and had those leaves lit up like Christmas. So bright. Was a beautiful day on pasture. Catch ya later. 👍🏻
Love the truck. Miss the vent windows. Thanks for the vid and the fall colors are awesome.
@joehackney4828 thanks. Yeah the vent windows were the best. Why did they stop making them? 😄🤷
@joehackney4828 I forgot about those vent windows, they were great. And the flip open vent on the passenger floor also.
@OpenAirAdventure the vent on the passenger floor... I remember it being winter, and someone would accidentally kick that open. You would be freezing before you realized it. Haha 😄

There's a reason more gives you too many roosters. Food.
That's true. They make great food. 👍🏻
Nice shout out Kenny is one of the good ones for sure👍
@@fatefarmspa yep. For sure. Thanks 👍🏻
Nice sticker and mug.
@@genewileyopa 👍🏻
I think that's the best shout-out someone has ever given me.
@OpenAirAdventure not as good as your shout-out videos, but I'm a rookie at it, i guess. 😄👍🏻
@@dusttodusthomestead you're awesome buddy
Man, it's been a while since I've gotten a package in the mail. Thanks Kenny, aka "Open Air Adventure"
You're welcome buddy. ❤
Soup, stew, samich's, pies, deep fried, pan fried, boiled, oven baked. I'm with you, eat em.
@@OpenAirAdventure hahaha so many options. 😄👍🏻
I get you farm ppl kinda don’t look at it the same way “animals lovers” look at it.. they’re more just items & inventory & a mouth to feed & more time bla bla. But I just hate the dark humor about taking the life of something in your care. I ended up saving 8 chickens hatched by a school, unfortunately for me, 5 turned out to be roo’s. Kept 1 & worked to find the other 4 homes.
Just had 2 chicks hatch fingers crossed both hens
@kristacochran8549 hope they're hens 🤞
Time for chicken and dumplings
@kristacochran8549 Oh yes! Nothing like homemade chicken and dumplings. Yummy 👍🏻
Half Michael Jackson half cow I think also that is me playing the song a.k.a. Michael Jackson

Just took a huge life gamble. Found a company doing no down-payment property for sale in eastern OK. I'm in Pennsylvania at the moment and plan on heading out there as soon as i can land a job. gonna have nothing with me but a sleeping bag, hatchet, and a bible. I'm broke and directionless in life. Gonna make God's canopy my roof and His footstool my bed! Looks beautiful where you are! Looks like Utah? Maybe Nevada? Keep on going brother! You are living the dream. God bless
@lukeswain1752 A sleeping bag and a bible sounds like a great start to me. I pray you find your way and have success. Keep us posted somehow on your journey. God bless!
Looks good. That's what we do, little by little. It'll get there. Has Austin been up lately? I remember he was helping early on. Thanks for the update.
@@genewileyopa thanks. He helped put the metal on. But its been a while. Might be up some time this month for a visit.
I’d be happy to occupy that cute little house, as would anyone. I love it. Great job. 👍
@marcamp5450 thank you. It's a work in progress. But eventually, it will be ready. 👍🏻🙂
Tounge and groove boards with the sheetrock make a nice combination. It's a great building. I forgot all about it, thanks for the update.
@OpenAirAdventure thanks. Yeah, i forgot about it, too. Haha 😄. That does make for a good combination 🤔
Cute dog
She is a cute little dog. Thanks 🙂
@@dusttodusthomestead of course blessings
Slowly but surely. Get it closed in before the snow flies. 👍🏻

@@jimmaag4274 it is for sure. 👍🏻
Its botulism It is highly fatel No treatment available yet Try minarex bolus or milonex bolus Give niacin rich food to prevent botulism
I like the cow therapy!
@@Ranchtofire thanks! It is soothing sometimes.
Beautiful background by the creek. Cattle look good. Is Ivy the one that you were going to use as a milk cow a few years ago. Thanks Josh
@@genewileyopa thanks Gene. Yep, Ivy is the one we were hoping to have as a milk cow. That never worked out. However, she has been a good nurse cow and has produced some nice calves. Once I gave up on the milking, I've enjoyed having her for the last couple years. I'm still hoping to get a milk cow someday in the future though.
Hopefully you can grow your channel man. Comment for the algo.
@@todd-tl9tr Hey, thanks! Appreciate that. 👍🏻🙂
That auctioneer was easier to understand than the others I have heard and I liked how they had a digital sign as well. I have stopped bidding many times because I couldn't tell what the bid was.
@twc9000 so true. Some are easier to understand than others for sure. There have been times when I stopped bidding as well, just because I had no idea what was going on. Haha. 👍🏻
Animals bring me peace for sure… except for those damn chickens they keep ripping up my grass I’m trying to plant might be chicken sandwiches on the menu if they don’t stop.😂
@fatefarmspa haha. Oh yes, chickens! They can be a freshly seeded lawns nightmare. Been down that road before. Hahaha 😄
They're all having a good time, and I'm having a good time watching them and great time listening to you talk about them.
@OpenAirAdventure thanks Kenny. They are some pretty neat cows and I like to talk about them. 👍🏻
Love seeing the cows anytime starting to almost know a couple by sight
@kristacochran8549 thanks. That's cool that you recognize some of them. 🙂
Always love a visit with the cows. 👍🏻
Thanks for all the October videos, fun idea…..enjoying them.
@twote2728 Thank you. So far, I'm enjoying October as well. 👍🏻
Being Frugal is a Rite of Passage for most Homesteaders I believe. Recycling, Reclaiming and Reusing describes most of us! You got a great SCORE!
Right on. We need to be resourceful sometimes. Nothing better than finding a great deal. Thanks 👍🏻 🙂
That old truck bot is right up my alley. Id say there's guys looking for that tailgate for restoration or an ornament.
@@OpenAirAdventure I thought about using tailgate in a project. Maybe making a bench out of it? But I might just leave it on the trailer.
It is a nice trailer. Not sure on year. When it comes to rims fitting from other years it usually messes you up. Should make for lots of wood hauling.
Yeah, these old pickup boxes make for a good trailer. Don't see a bunch of them anymore for some reason. 🤷
