*****disclaimer I'm only a minute in
I left the jws in fall of 2018 and while I appreciated exjw content for a time, I began to see that a lot of the content creators still had major jw traits and to a point I think being exjw has become its very own high control group. It breaks my heart because the very people who could enjoy freedom are now just back under the control of new people.

I think it’s difficult for people who get out of it to actually own personality, especially if they were raised in it. We were raised not to have one, to reflect “the Christian personality” and “Bible principles”. There was no point in being anything but a two dimensional reflection of that. Even when we think we’ve moved past it, it shows up to grab control of our lives away from us. It doesn’t justify horrible abuse or hurtful choices, certainly, but what you’re describing sounds like this to me.

Wow it’s a shame your channel doesn’t have as many subscribers as other ex cult channels. You are actually saying things that are very helpful for trauma healing which can be hard to find in ex cult RUclips. So many of us (myself included) got stuck in the righteous anger phase and many of the more well known “leaders”in our community did not heal their trauma and move out of that phase because usually when you do you stop doing ex JW material. The result though is we never got to see an example of someone who moved on and processed their trauma. I really appreciate you and what you’re doing. Thank you

I was reared from childhood in the JW community. You absolutely nailed it with this post. As with most HDRG's the stress is on devaluing our OWN intuition, our inner voice. Hence the attachment to an external source... Humans will disappoint and we will too.
It's learning to research, stand on ourselves, draw valuable lessons from others, but build our own thinking skills and follow OUR Path.

I was raised in the JW cult as well. Because of my experience I'm not a "joiner" in general. I believe this is to my benefit as well as my detriment. The benefit part is not allowing myself to join something because i can never truly know if it will reflect my values. The only way I can do that is to not join at all. I suppose the detriment part is not having a strong community around me. This is why I was not hurt by what happened with LE. I do not expect people to be perfect, I can never assume I can know what somebody is capable of and I don't put stock in people I don't know. Therefore their actions cannot deeply disappoint me. I save my deep feelings for people that I do know who are close to me.

Around 4:30 or so you mentioned how these religions train you to externalize everything. That is extremely insightful and true. I was born and raised JW, left at 25 and I've been on a journey ever since. Somethings were very obvious to change and I too patted myself on the back after a year as if I had conquered the problem. But it was only the beginning really lol It is only now that I find myself starting to feel like the onion is being unraveled. I am actively doing so many things daily to truly become someone I would admire. I try to create a Brightside to complex PTSD in my mind by telling myself that I can look around and see what things I thought I ought to be, and then go for it with everything I have :) No punishment, no regrets. I used to feel like an imposter but now I believe what I say. Keep up the great work with the channel :D

I was brought up in the WT cult, leaving school at 15 to pioneer (door knocking 100 hours month in the 1970s).
By chance & good luck when I was 17 one of those doors I called on gave me the book "The Magic of Thinking Big" it was full of positive thinking and putting yourself 1st and improving yourself. I stopped pioneering & started a business that turned into a multi million pounds £ business. But took me another 20 years to get the Watchtower indoctrination fully out of my brain.
To be honest I listened occasionally to Lloyds videos to get ideas to help other family members still in the cult. If there's truth to the rumours of csa then he's finished & will be a police matter.

I have extended family still in, and I would never wast my time trying to get through to them, it never works and is a complete wast of time, your reasoning is flawed and emotional, I still have my 85 year old mother inside she will never break free, in the grand scheme of things Jehovah has it all in hand, for these religious groups are destined for destruction, until then we all have to be patient, people are waking up in huge numbers that will only increase as time progresses.

I think staying neutral and avoiding drama is actually very sensible, and I have admired you for not making more conflict and drama out of this. To be clear: While I highly appreciate the work of LE, I don't agree with his view on sex work or the sex industry (I am so happy that it is forbidden in Norway) - and I really hope he'll start to reflect on how the sex industry preys on the vulnerable - and how much coercion and abuse there is involved on many levels in that industry, from outright slavery and abuse to more indirect forms of coercion, and self harm - and also that he will come to understand why his current views on this topic, as well as the actions he talks about in his video, are very problematic in connection to his work against the abuse in the JW cult.
And maybe he'll change his mind and actions, as I think he is capable of, as an intelligent and strongly logical person.
I also believe his commitment to trying to stop the abuse of children in the cult is sincere, he has done so much great work - and I don't think he has to be damned - or shunned - for all time.
But he is attacked now by so many people, and also smeared with what I believe are just horrible vicious lies - and at the same time his whole life, family, friends and maybe also his work are falling apart - so my opinion is to let him be - I don't think it is good to attack somebody who is already wounded and already is attacked - almost "stoned" - by something that reminds me of a mob of people who think they are justified in tearing another person apart. He is not an organization with power, he is just a human being of flesh and blood who has f***d up and who must be having a totally horrible time now. Don't be a part of the mob. it is not the right time for blaming and criticizing, IMO.

I appreciate your trying to encourage people to accept our so-called human condition and what this means at a time of deep personal crisis.
And I will try to add my comment despite my imperfect English :-)
The case you mention seems to be a complex one, with psychological, moral and even political aspects (the degree of organization of the so-called EX-JW community and so forth).
What I personally find to be at least one of the key elements of the situation is the obvious fact that the person in question seems to have deeply offended more than a few people in the community, some of them repeatedly or even on a regular basis. I am not in a position to know who or what was to blame but, the fact is that people felt hurt. Several, not many, had openly addressed this, others had not. Everyone can imagine things like being silent in the interest of "the greater good" or the common goal, shame for having been bullied by someone stronger and his supporters, the pain of feeling misunderstood and treated with contempt - to name but some of the reasons. But, we all know what can happen when we try to suppress or ignore such feelings of anger, offense and so on for years.
At the moment, people are trying to understand themselves, their thoughts and feelings in the matter, which is normal and necessary. But, many of them feel pushed to take sides (we are, after all, social creatures), which, again, can get in the way of a healthy self-reflection.

Helpful message to some of the folks, no doubt. I fled the JW cult back in the early 1980s. Having a 12 step program through Al Anon was the best mental path for myself as a base, along with many other guides and authored reflections. I've been observing LE since he was an elder back in the day and thought he was headed for a train wreck back then. When it delayed, I considered that he may have avoided the crash, but nope, the wrecking arrived only late.

I really appreciate your point of view. I took the therapy route when I left back in November 2021. And to be honest, while I consider myself to be out of the JW cult, I don’t consider myself to be part of the exJW community for the exact reasons you cited.
I don’t personally consider Lloyd owed anything to anyone. While I don’t think what he’s accused of is morally appropriate, it’s also his private life, and I do believe that the way it was done was not appropriate either.
As you also said, I don’t want to be stuck in the righteous phase of my healing process. I watch his content because it gives me a good comparison of what I was taught but under a more objective angle. But I don’t want to give the religion I was brought up in more attention than it deserves. The whole point is to move forward. I personally don’t want to be reminiscing over and over how 20+ years of my life were conditioned to believe my only purpose in life was to serve a God under a strict set of rules made by a group of men.
Stop putting people on pedestals would be my advice to people who left. No one is a beacon of anything. Don’t idolize humans. Go to therapy, keep an objective perspective and let go. 💖

Thank you so so much for everything you've said... I am part of the ex JW community and I am still dealing with trauma all these decades later from it but what happened with Lloyd isn't causing me a whole lot of stress, I don't agree with what he's done if it is in fact true, but the fact is these are flawed peoples lives, as you said, and I trust people will work themselves out.
What I loved so much regarding everything you just said is, oddly enough, I'm going through a traumatic breakup right now and it's breaking me up mind body and spirit. And everything you said can completely be applied to something like that also. It was so soothing and helpful to hear you say all the things you said and you're right, I am codependent and I know that and I did start therapy a couple of weeks ago and I'm going to continue, I realize I need it and I need to stop trying to be other people's heroes and I need to be my own and I need to understand what I need and what is good for me. So I just wanted you to know that everything you said was completely applicable to my situation and I really needed to hear it. I'm doing a little bit better it's been a few weeks but I have moments in the day when I break down and I feel like I can't trust myself to make proper decisions and I feel like I'll never be able to trust another human being again. I feel like everyone is just such a big liar. They put on a show in the beginning because they want you and then after they get you then all their madness comes out and it's not right it's not correct this should not be happening. I am exactly who I am the first day you meet me and that's never going to change. And I'm not perfect I am very flawed and I'm not embarrassed to show those flaws or to discuss them and I'm always ready to listen to advice and to work on things. But I seem to attract people with the opposite mindset. Anyway it's been hard and I find myself feeling down and that was happening right now when your video popped up and I really needed to hear that so thank you so much.

Hello Angel, I hope you are not equating being a cult activist with being stuck in a trauma phase or simply being angry. One thing that Jehovah's Witnesses would love to do is to quiet the Ex JW Community. It is common for Jehovah's Witnesses to tell people that have left their religion that we should no longer talk about the religion "if we have Truly moved on with our lives." This kind of gaslighting is the Jehovah's Witnesses attempt to stop the exposure of their abusive religion. Angel, I'm sure you agree that speaking out about the religious trauma caused, is equally as important as healing the religious trauma. Perhaps a few people become obsessed with it, but for most of us speaking out also aids in healing.

    • @AngelDeSantis
      @AngelDeSantis  2 года назад +1

Hi Pat, thank you for the question. No, I do not believe being an anticult activist is being stuck in a trauma phase. I think that abusive religion definitely needs to be called out ( hence the youtube channel) and I agree that people speaking about their experiences is helpful to healing and to outing the abuses they had to suffer in silence. If the message came across that people shouldn't speak out, that was definitely not my intention. I believe we should all use our voices.

I agree very much with your insight and advice for those impacted by a predator like LE to seek professional counseling. But I’d like to add that cult survivors tend to be more vulnerable to the influence of people who want to take advantage of them for their own nefarious reasons. In the case of Lloyd Evan’s I believe he could very well qualify as an individual with psychopathic traits. It’s very difficult to differentiate psychopaths from mentally healthy individuals. Having known this individual personally and as one who has researched a broad spectrum of personality disorders I suspect LE does indeed qualify. Please check up on Dr Robert Hare’s Psychopathy Checklist which presents the characteristics of a psychopath. People have the misconception that psychopathy is synonymous with serial criminals, but the fact is the vast majority of psychopaths walk among us while the minority display violent criminal behavior. Psychopaths fall within the category of Antisocial Personality Disorder in the DSM which the standard for describing mental illnesses. Frequently psychopaths make excellent con artists and it’s easy for mentally healthy people to be seduced by the psychopath’s charm and alluring character.

Remember that anytime you talk about Jehovah's Witness you have to place a disclaimer up concerning Fair use, JW's sue everyone, "Fair use permits a party to use a copyrighted work without the copyright owner's permission for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research. ... The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work." Ok to Lloyd, I liked the way Lloyd needled the top of the JW's but he was honestly boring I could only take about five minutes of him. Let's look at the facts, Jehovah's Witness is a billion-dollar industry Real Estate conglomerate, and doing what they say keeps the money rolling. This is getting out of hand now: Nowhere did Lloyd Evans say that he was doing anything sexual with underage girls as far as I understand it. He said that he used prostitutes and that he went to Thailand. I think I'm right in saying that a minority in the ex-JW community took those two statements and put two and two together and made five or more; assuming that - because there is a large scene in underage prostitution in Thailand, and that Lloyd said that he went to Thailand; they assumed that he must have been going to Thailand to indulge in sexual activity with underage girls, and then they told everyone else that that's what he did. The way that I understand it; and I may be wrong but I don't currently think so, is that Lloyd was unfaithful to his wife - maybe with a non-underage Thai prostitute, maybe not with a non-underage Thai prostitute: I don't have the information as to whether or not he went with a Thai prostitute or a prostitute of a different nationality - and I refuse to make assumptions before I know the full facts. It's my understanding that, even if Lloyd did go with a Thai prostitute; the rumour that she was underage is malicious hearsay.
I state again that this is currently my understanding on the morning of the 19th February 2022. If in due course I discover concrete evidence to the contrary that proves that I'm wrong then my understanding and opinion will change as a result of that evidence. However for the time being I have no such evidence, and therefore I postulate that the rumours of Lloyd's indulgence in underage sex are no more than malicious rumours which were made up by trolls in the ex-JW community. Until I have solid evidence to the contrary I will continue in this vein of understanding.
I do suggest that people desist from accusing Lloyd Evans in print of whatever rumours they've heard until they know the facts: Lawsuits can be drawn out and costly; and are not conducive to good mental health.

Millie Gratis Angel. I tried to listen to Cedar's (an old alias) message and not the messenger for the last few years, even though there were many people putting a warning out about him. But, many of them looked/look like they are on the edge of losing it to a psychotic break! I mistakenly disregarded many of them, but now it looks like Cedars drove them to the edge of insanity, as abusers do! I did keep my distance which was easy as it looks like he is only interested in money, as you can see from his live videos where he responds well to super chats($), but rarely to regular comments (and I suspect those he does respond to are his patrons).
I would occasionally yell at him (no one heard, ha) during videos that he is selfish and misogynistic. (You can't do that in comments, or he will block you; he is infamous for it.) Like when he talked about what went through his head during the first earthquake last year. He thought of himself, got himself out of the house to relative safety, THEN thought of his wife and girls who were up on the second floor (details could be wrong). Sure, a normal person might react this way, but in the retelling, would feel guilt about taking so long to think of immediate family members, like little children! He went on and on about how HE was affected by the earthquake. Made me sick. Just one example.
The only money he got from me was the Tshirt I bought that you can see. He got no ad money from me as my hubby put in a good ad blocker. I don't blame anyone who gave him money and now changes their mind! If you don't know, you don't know! And I've sent money to other ex-jw activists, btw.
To the people that knew all this before hand, and gave no money please let me know who else will take a fall so I can avoid them too.
John Martin and Christian Guitierres made videos about this. Christian also shared that Cedars came to him angry that Christian's wife Katja liked a video or comment or something years ago. He wanted her to undo that "like". She wouldn't, so he cut off ties and bad mouthed them for still being Christian. He is a control freak and I hate that behavior.
I am enjoying that he lost 15% of his patrons so far because the ex-jw community can do without a SELF-proclaimed "leader" like this.
We can also do without all the misogyny in the ex-jw world frankly. See Mentally Diseased twitter as he explains it well (ha! a man explaining it... uggh).
To those followers that compare what Cedars did to polyamory: WRONG. He cheated over and over for 'he's gunna say 3-4 years', and 'he's gunna say every 2-3 months', so 12-24 times. Polyamory is OPEN and honest; Cedars is a liar.

Hi Angel this is Gio we met few years back. Thanks for the video I agree with you people will disappoint you and the funny thing is all this religious cult pride themselves in how much they fallow the scriptures
in till goes against there doctrine
the Bible warns us in not trusting earthly Man, prince of whatever powerful position they have, they are man therefore they lie .
I left the cult a year ago i was raised in it 39 years all my family still in it . My family dosen't talk to me anymore I'm an apostate and that happens all the time, so what you do ? You free yourself from a form of slavery and so many of us become slaves of something else and sometimes those things are quite dark. People in religious cult become afraid of the people in charge they Live their life in constant fear and most of them forget it's not to man you will give count for your actions and some of them when they leave the cult loose faith in everything they don't believe there is anything you will give count for so anything goes, I remember my wife been so scared I was going to leave her or do something stupid it broke my heart to think that my wife thought I did or didn't do certain things because I belong to a religious group . My relationship now with my wife and daughters has never been better my family can see now that religion should never be the reason why you are a good person or try to be the best version of yourself is because is what gives life meaning is the right thing to do I still believe in God and I thank him for given me the opportunity to take my family outside the cult, my girls life will be limitless . Good to see you're doing well i hope you do. Thank you for sharing i think I'm going to start my own Chanel soon I need to help others I'm not ready yet but I will soon . Ciao bella .

Why are so many Ex-JWs commenting on the "Lloyd Evans situation" when they have no direct knowledge of the matter?

Well I cannot talk about others. I commented on what the man said and the way he addressed the issue, what he admitted to and how he handled the matter in public. What is in the video is a matter we know. Is it wrong to comment on what he said, admiited and how he handled the matter?

I can't care less about other people's personal lives. Sadly, the Ex-JW community is full of those who left the cult, yet the cult did not leave them. They exchange one toxic group and jump into another. Whether it's in politics, another religious group, or "follow the Ex-JW leader," many feel the need for outside guidance.
This is a very good video. Bravo!

Thank you. See, the worse is that he puts himself as the voice of CSA victims in jw cult at an unprecedent level, government officials level in UK 🇬🇧 😳. I never wanted to have that dude to represent me. I am lucky enough for not being a victim from UK. But I am a victim and I understand how they feel. I feel horrible, I have no idea what I could do if I did put trust into him even just to tell my story on his channel as many did 😳. It is particularly painful to watch all those 🐑 sheep who are defending him like they used to defend the cult. Not even asking themselves the good questions 😕. What if my child was abuse victim 🤔? How would I see the situation? But, there's some people who are waking up from the lies of the dude. They are moving on, even if it's not easy. I am really proud of those people. Now, it becomes clear to who doesn't care about child abuse and who does! Excellent video, thank you again!

I never trusted him from the first time I hear about him almost a decade ago. To make matters worse someone who was very in the know in the exjw community who told me how grifting and divisive he was internally about 8 years ago. So I never watched his content.
I was always skeptical about Evans - did the watchtower plant him? They do have proper high up who are not really witnesses - they are running a business.
Was he planted in the exjw community to ultimately make them look bad?
I don’t know but I don’t think someone who truly believed and left would be as divisive and polarizing as Evans.
He rose up the ranks getting a lot of publicity over the years which adds to the damage.
    Who knows?

    2. How the services were paid for; was it with donations, in part, intended for exposing and making accountable the Watchtower Society on behalf of its tens of thousands of victims of child abuse??

Is he a priest or have he promised anyone anything rooted in his atheism?
Exjw community, is it a kind of church?
I can agree that he maybe was doing wrong against his family, but it’s their own business.
I myself am a christian so I just turn my back to him if I feel it is right. I did it for a long time ago when he declared he was an atheist.

AND ALWAYS remember to separate the message from the messenger. Look at the message, and evaluate the message, and then - be the bigger person. Many people in world history that we regard as great people are later discovered to have many vices, such as a violent nature, alcohol abuse, womanising, etc. That doesn't change the fact that these people might have shed light on some very specific facts that has come to the light of day only thorough research and months of investigative journalism. A truth from ANY notorious lier isn't less true.

I know this comment is a bit late but with respect to the person that you are talking about, he is living the spirit of Absolom. If you are reading and studying your bible, (and not reading it Mentally or Physically, but rather Spiritually) you will be able you see biblical history in real time today. All of you will agree that history repeats it self. I look at both biblical history and secular history to see it in real time. Absolom started out as an activist in behalf of Tamar regarding her violation, soon thereafter it was no longer about Tamar, but he was using this as an opportunity to gain support from the Jewish people at that time. Just like the jw community of today. Do you see the parallels? You can pick up the account in 2Sam 15 starting in verse 2 thru verse 6. Notice how it revealed that Absolom was pleading Legal cases in his father's absence. Dose that sound familiar to you in modern times? Then, notice what he did in 2Sam 16 starting in verse 21 thru 23, he ends up violating his father's concubines. The very thing he condemned Ammon for, he ended up doing the same thing! Now when things start turning on him, Absolom start making a run for it just to end up having his hair caught in a tree where later he was executed. What's the lesson from this account, and how dose it relate to what all of you are talking about? There is too many chilling parallels to this in both ancient and modern times. So my advice on a closing note, like with Absolom, be careful of what you think you're advocating for and don't be victim of your own advocacy by (figuratively speaking) by your hair being caught in a tree of legal entanglements.

I feel like the message in this video is just a tad bit odd. I did listen to some of Lloyd Evans videos but it didn't take very long for me to get turned off. I dont know exactly why.... I didnt care to figure that out. I just moved on.
With all the garbage that I dealt with as a JW amd when leaving I have huge trust issues, and I do not just hand over blanket trust to anyone, it has yo be earned. Lloyd always made me uneasy for some reason.

Not sure Yourself as Your Source is defined or cleared enough. I seem to see, yet confused. Ah minute 7:00 Should clear up that a right or wrong (though not letting it come from someone else's opinion) does not mean you should not have within yourself rights and wrongs. People can say every day and hour that only they will determine if anything they ever do is wrong, and many will do just that, feel nothing is wrong. They will say their wrong is knowing you as the wrong, and trusting you who's wrong. They are never wrong because they say so. Just because like Jesus you dont confess to sins accused of that you did not do, does not mean you don't put your own checklist on you to say this is wrong, change, stop, or even apologize. Many don't because it is easy to feel no one else is empathic so don't be empathic with them. See others as bad the way they see you. I always say i rather be trampled on than trample on others. Most are not of that mindset. I take what i know i shouldn't put up with, and the nly thing i dislike about myself is acting on the redflags too late. But if i act too soon on anything appearing like a red flag, my foot is in my mouth. A regular daily thief once said he liked a cheap $5 turtle necklace i bought in Hawaii and i thought having taken him there he would have liked it. So since he had taken things i accused him, and a year later the cat was playing with it. My mom would have said youre usually guilty so one time getting the blame when your not isn't going to kill you being youre that way. No i am not usually guilty but the words are a general truth, if always guilty then no one cares about the time youre not. Its is absurd to want your rights for one unjust moment when most of the time you trample on others rights.

Kim and Mikey said a lot is going on behind the scenes. It should have been left there and not broadcast to the world unless proof came out it had anything to do with c.a.. Seems at this time it is adultery. That's between Lloyd and his wife. For now Kim bringing it out has caused more damage than good. Many people are assuming the worse.
