Used to travel on these 101’s as a nipper back in the 70’s and 80’s between Saltburn and Redcar, on occasion to Middlesbrough and Darlington, and it was always fascinating as to me when going past the works at British steel Redcar and Dorman long at south bank, ahhh nostalgia!
i love seeing how much/little the area has changed over the years. i work in south bank right next to the station and i get the train there. station is exactly the same, the area next to the station where i work is almost exactly the same. eaglescliffe (where i travel from) isn’t much different (although that will change soon as they’re building new entrances and a second carpark at the station). darlington station hasn’t changed much either!
The 101 is one of my favourite trains in game. Used go travel on it as a lad in the 80s, so a combination of nostalgia but also the fact that there is nothing else like the 101 in game. I use it a lot on Blackpool Branches.
As a local that has used this route countless times it’s still great to see our area in a game. It’s a pretty good likeness as well. Btw the bridge is the iconic Newport bridge that did used to rise to let ships pass but has been sealed permanently now so no longer does. The transporter is our other iconic bridge.
I grew up in the area and traveled to Middlesbrough, Redcar and Saltburn alot. When I bought this route, it really gave me flashbacks to bygone years. The sounds were just as I remember them. Only thing it misses is the stink as you head east out of M'bro to the heavy industry at Grange town and further on. And back then, we used to travel to Teeside Airport as teens to see the planes. That was before it became a virtual ghost station. As for map in TSW5. Only taken them 5 years to make the map semi-useful after saying it was sub-standard for years!
"Ah, Mr TinTin. I need a word with you about your driving style. Come to my office. There won't be tea or biscuits". The 101's were still around when I started on the railway, but gone by the time I got onto the footplate. Love riding them on the Heritage railways, and yes I have had a go driving them 😁 Oh, by the way. Coast in 4th gear, brake in neutral.
Just been playing this route with the modded timetable by Faux using the 142. The 101 is fun to drive, like the changing of gears. Use to like riding on these irl, nice and comfy.
It’s nice to see the put the Tees Transporter Bridge in the game also famous for been shown in Auf Weidersehen Pet too. I’m from the area and that bridge links Middlesbrough to Hartlepool also pedestrians can walk over the top of the bridge too! But it’s good to see this route/ the north east in a game
@@TinTin_57 It’s okay mate, just watched the video, and saw you couldn’t remember about it so thought would share a little knowledge on it. The episode in the tv show is great too highly recommend it. But it’s a shame the line doesn’t go onto Whitby from saltburn as that station is great too, and also houses one of the points of the NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) a great heritage line to ride with beautiful views. I’d highly recommend experiencing it if you haven’t already mate.
Love this route simply for its ratio of freight services to passenger, I’m a massive fan of freight so to be able to do mostly freight is really enjoyable for me, makes me really look forward to seeing how much freight is on the wcml over shap if the ai traffic on Blackpool branches is anything to go off, not to mention mid route services and at Carlisle
Nice route had the 101 as a train set in n gauge in my youth lol,but when ever I drive this cute loco I'm always running 10 late lol,got the mastery of a class 08
Tees Valley and NTP I loved back in the day as it was finally some BR Blue away from all the modern day routes that DTG did all the time...and then they just stopped doing 80s routes. Thank god Just Trains are doing routes in that period now so we can hopefully get some more use out of the 20 & 31 packs
There’s a great user made scenario on this route and you also need certain liveries, you drive the pacer from saltburn and you pass a 101 in the BR laboratories livery and a HST in BR blue and a few other interesting locos
I would gear up to forth when coasting at 15 mph. Then gear down to second for acceleration. To use an Xbox controller to the PC Is a treat on this DMU. And neutral until closing the doors.

I’ve travelled this route on a pacer a few times as it’s fairly local to me. Hasn’t changed much since the 80s, aside from the industry all but vanishing. It’s a fantastic route though, definitely deserves a remaster.
Remember back in the day. Where grumpy drivers would pull the blinds down,so you could not watch them drive. 😊 Do like driving the class 101 , great one to master.
Honestly the changing of gears and the braking threw me so much for ages when playing the 101 still haven’t mastered it but it’s definitely a unique experience 😂
I just wanted to comment on the "how should you pronounce Redcar" discussion you had on the 31 stream. I think Redcar just becomes RedCUHH after 5 pints of beer.
Mr. Wise Man of TSW can you answer this question please. Does the class 40 only come as a part of Heavy Freight or is it included with a route. I don't want to nuy it twice.
I dont think they have the sounds right on the 101. It allways had that loud rasping wet fart noise when accelerating. Never forget that. Don't recall it having that in the game. Not that I've driven it a lot. . Allways seems to have a 31 attached when i drive it. 😅
Hi tin tin good help this video. If you can help us through this complex dlc surely the next step is to to contact paul heckingbottom and put him right on our P.N.E. situation 😂

Gear change speeds are 15, 27 & 40. Coast in 4th, neutral as you come to a stand. To start go straight to 1st, brake to release, apply throttle.
Yep, if not you can say goodbye to your brake bands 😅

I really like this route. I don’t play it enough I still think it compares well to some of the more recent routes.

Had no idea that would be a reason for the 31 hauling a 101 as stand in carriages, kinda makes sense actually
My home route this was the first one I ever bought really enjoyed thanks Tintin
Class 101 hands down, best DMU in tsw to date. No question!
Another awesome video!
Thanks mate

Enjoyed that! I’ve had this since its release and not played it in a long while. I might just call in there on my next one. 😃

Rewarding when you get it, and also quite well implemented on the controller by DTG as there are a few buttons in play with this one
@@TinTin_57 they did do well with this agreed. When you get it right it’s very satisfying
it's called Newport Bridge....its decommissioned now so always stays down for traffic

It's only in the Heavy Freight pack, but to own that you first need Northern Trans Pennine
@@TinTin_57 I already have that route. Thanks for you help. I'm off to buy heavy freight.

I have noticed in your look back series you seem to have missed out the early American freight routes ? Any reason 😅
Theres time yet. Not doing anything in order as you may have realised...but they will be in.

Ha ha yeah the PNE situation is much harder to sort than driving this 101! I am beginning to regret buying Burnley tickets already!!!!!!
Well I'll be watching. Bridgwater a step to far to come up for this game. Good luck eh .
