    This is my new favorite kitchen tool! Day 1 I was going to pressure cook a meat ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and potato stew, decided I wouldn't eat it that night so I went with a slow cook so I could go to bed and put it away in the morning. I love that versatility! The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!

    Don't pressure cook overly thick stews directly in the liner. Some components of the stew, rice in my case when I was attempting a rice stew, may stick to the bottom of the pot and will prevent the pot from coming to pressure before the stuck material starts to burn, in which case the pot's safety feature will shut it down without pressurizing or finishing cooking. In my case, no actual harm was done. I just had to transfer the contents to separate bowls and pressure cook these on trivets so that nothing could stick to the liner bottom. The meal was delayed, but not ruined. Thank goodness for the safety features!

    What about using a vent deflector (like a 😘PVC elbow) while venting to keep it from venting under a cabinet or setting it on the soup?

  • @Pistolmike59
    @Pistolmike59 7 месяцев назад +1

    So a tip I learned the hard way;
    If you open the lid to check your food and it’s not done cooking and needs to be cooked a few more minutes, make sure you check the sealing ring to insure it’s still in place properly in the lid. A couple of times my sealing ring pulled itself out of the lid slightly (I didn’t check it) and when I put the lid back on it didn’t seal correctly so it would not pressurize and steam kept coming out of the pop up valve. So check your ring each time you open your lid. Be careful it’s hot!

    Rule #3 to never operate the instant pot without the silicone ring is when you are making yogurt. After much use, the silicone ring retains cooking odors from prior use of the instant pot and this will transfer to the taste of the yogurt. Yes you can reserve a silicone ring devoted to yogurt but I find it easier to remove the silicone ring altogether since the yogurt feature operates without pressure.

    I love your videos! I have seen a good tip for avoiding melting the bottom of your IP if you have to put it on a glass top stove. If the knob(s) for the burner(s) that your pot is on come(s) off easily then that basically makes it very difficult for the burner(s) to be accidentally bumped on. In my case I'm not normally doing more than one process at a time when I cook. The holidays are about the only time that I have more than one pot going at a time! As always my absolute very very best to you and yours! Take care!!!!

I got a little ambious with some ballpark times and lost a bit of confidence when I was letting off pressure 2-3 times to keep checking on the item. Great video.

      Maybe you need to get with a friend who has been using an instant pot for awhile and cook a few things together. You can do one aspect of a meal in your IP and he/she can do another in their IP. I cook for a big family 8 people, sometimes 10-11. I now own 3 IP’s. 3 quart, 6 quart, 8 quart and often I have 2 of them going at the same time and sometimes all 3 of them. Yes, you will make some mistakes but that’s how you learn.
      If you’re convinced you don’t want to try please gift your IP to someone who will use it.

    Hi Lisa, wr cant find our over flow cup. Is it ok to pressure cook anyway?

  • @kh23797
    @kh23797 2 года назад +1

    Just a tiny correction... the liquid isn't _still_ boiling as you wiggle; that's when it _starts_ to boil. At normal air pressure, water boils at 100°C=212°F, a boiling point that rises when forced under pressure. Normally, water in a pressurized i-Pot exists as super-hot, but not boiling, water. But as your wiggling drops the pressure, the boiling point drops, so the water has to boil.

    • @kh23797
      @kh23797 Год назад

      @UCr7HkuEBDTvsluyf-wfJhGQ Depends on what you mean by 'boil'. My understanding is that the new generation of pressure cookers, such as the Instant Pot, electronically monitor the temperature and pressure within the vessel specifically to suppress ebullition during cooking. Hence, excess pressure build-up does not need to be released via the pressure release valve (as happened with traditional pressure cookers) and the pot can remain virtually silent throughout cooking. Only when the pressure release valve is opened to reduce internal pressure, to allow removal of the lid, does the resultant internal pressure change induce _actual boiling_ of the liquid. That's how I interpret what I read in IP's own pages. No?

    #22 don't use dairy - but what about porridge when you use cow milk, for example?

    • @pat4005
      @pat4005 5 месяцев назад +1

      She suggested to not use dairy as the main liquid ingredient.
      So you could cook oatmeal or porridge in water with a pinch of salt, then stir in some heavy cream, or half-and-half, and a dollop of butter after the cook cycle ends.
      If you use brown sugar, honey or some other sweetener, you could probably add that after the cook cycle ends but before adding the dairy. (So if it's granulated, it will dissolve better).
      It may not even matter.

    When you WASHING your pod and your gasket wash with soap and water then soak it in vinegar water white vinegar water after it’s soaks and it smells clean then dry it with a kitchen towel not a hand towel kitchen towels are like old fashion diapers then and only then can you add the lid to your instant pot you have to have all food debris from your instant pot or else those olders are bacteria growing in your instant pot to sanitize your instant pot you get 50-50 water and vinegar always mix up a quarter cup solution it’s the same way with your wash machine your clothes it going to stink if you don’t have a clean wash machine if that’s true do you need to put ammonia in your wash machine wash it on hot and leave the house now when you can put a load of your towels and you leave your wash towels in it for three days with the lid closed now if it smells not fresh then you need to wash your wash machine again with TSP soak it for 24 hours with the towels in it and I would use a cup no soap and when you do start using soap you’re going to start using a fourth of a cup instead of 2/3 of a cup I hope you do this I don’t matter if it’s a front loader or Toploader it still Hass to be clean and if you have a sticky wash machine your clothes have bacteria in them so clean it up good thank you very much oh and PS do not wash your filthy stuff like rugs and stuff Broccoli carrots beautifully in a rice cooker and you don’t need to ever cook broccoli or eggs in a pressure cooker I enjoy using my old fashion pressure cooker because I can pressurize at 3 pound roast and let it cool all night long and the roaster put in the refrigerator and then the next day slice it with an electric knife and you’ll have a beautiful well Steve sandwiches go against the grain of the grain is long cut it so the grain is tiny enjoy and that we can’t roast high-pressure for an hour and that It was was wiggling very Slightly enjoy.

    Call my wife using my instant hot water tea kettle for cooking my eggs in what I do is I have a little bit of water in the bottom and I add eggs to it and as I’ve put the eggs in the water rises up once it boils it turns off my timer for eight minutes then I’ll gently get a spoon pull one out peel it in the sink in a colander check the egg cut it in half and if it’s perfect for what you are using it for take him out immediately put them in icewater and that’s how I would I tried cooking eggs in the rice cooker they cooked way too long and they were rubbery!

    The thumbnail mislead me to think you had a part/wiring problem! I blame the algorithm but tread carefully…

    Hi, darling! I found you today on RUclips, I got the Instant Pot and I followed your directions and then later on you mentioned your Instagram and I went there to follow you and I saw posts from 2022 only, you're not on Instagram anymore? ☹️

    *After watching these videos I’m not buying an Instant Pot. Far too much time and energy wasted in cleaning, etc. It's not worth it.*

      This does make it sound scary. But there are certain stovetop recipes that are much easier and actually safer. Such as: oatmeal, applesauce, cranberry sauce, eggs, soups, rice (granted you could use a rice cooker but this nixes the need) and any other foods you would normally have to babysit on the stove. Set it and forget it. She has a video on the top ten uses these make it truly worth it.

      @@lynnmccoysloan7705 I finally bought the Instant Pot but returned it. A stove pressure cooker is MUCH better. My wife makes delicious curries in half the time, and it's easier to clean.

      I don't agree.
      It's very easy to use, and doesn't require any extra cleaning.
      It's inner cooking pot and lid (just like a regular pressure cooker), are all the needs to be cleaned.
      I have used both types of pressure cookers, and this one is extremely safe and easy.
      I can't imagine what "wasted time and energy wasted in cleaning, etc. " is that you are talking about.
      It's not rocket science.

    Hi Lisa, I was just watching your video on the Insta pot. My son in law gave me 1 for christmas. Excited but very nervous about using it. Your video has helped eased my mind a bit. Thank you ! But at the beginning of the video did I hear you introduced yourself as Lisa Childs ? My name is also Lisa Childs how crazy is that lol.
