Homely is a very old word that has always been a nice way of saying ugly. So be aware if someone calls you that, they're not just saying they don't find you attractive, they're saying you're a dog.

I have never thought of homely as a positive. Plain is more positive sounding but similar in meaning

The word "homely" does have different meanings in different countries - in the UK it's used the way "homey" is used in the US, kind of cozy - so while Weird Al meant it as "ugly ", not everyone does!

that's funny because Prince thought the Micheal Jackson Fat/Bad parody was funny. There is a recording on RUclips of him talking about it during a rehearsal

Why would Prince want or need that? Lol He didn’t need Al to promote his music, he did a fine job all on his own. So the gain would be what… let this loon make fun of you? LOL I don’t think his declining automatically equates to being an ego maniac. 😅

All other celebrities Weird Al asked were fine with it, because they have a sense of humor and it's an honor. But it was definitely Prince's choice. Another comedian made a funny Prince parody called Poddy Trained, his name is Tim Hawkins and he actually sings better than Weird Al.

@@vonniemichelle3670 I know he was super famous and talented, I'm from Minnesota btw and I heard about him twice today, it was weird. But MJ and Lady Gaga also gave permission to be parodied. Prince did have an ego from what I've heard, it probably didn't help that people practically worshipped him.

Also, I think Prince had his tongue in his own cheek to the point that he seemed to parody himself in a way and I don't think Weird Al could top Prince. In other words I don't think Prince didn't have a sense of humor like some of the all too serious songs Al made parodies of.
