E.T. Cast Says Steven Spielberg Helped Bring out the Best in Them | The Drew Barrymore Show
/ thedrewbarrymoreshow - Развлечения
It seems like Steven Spielberg consciously cultivated a safe, healthy, and positive set for these three to be kids on; the way they still seem to so strongly regard their experience making the movie is a testament to his leadership as a director.
Don't forgot he's Drew's godfather.
He’s a true mensch. 💚🌈🙏
Agreed.. minus the jeepers creepers director hahaha..he was a sicko.
@@anthonyoh2933 Actually he wasn’t. Nice try though QAnon boy.
Well said. He seems a lovely man.
I love how she gets down on her knees she is so obviously excited...just like the 5-year old girl in ET!
Most people never truly lose their inner child.👧😊
She is a pure spirit
So cute how she gets on her knees and laughs in her friends faces up close.....while the audience sits with their non-effective face diapers on.
She’s right though that is how siblings act and if you’re the baby you know it😂it’s a right of passage and Drew is right we don’t take it negatively❤
I thought that was the most beautiful moment ❤️
Steven Spielberg is a genius director but keeping ET "alive" for Drew off camera. That brought a little tear to my eye. Amazing man
A great godfather
And a brilliant tactician. He wanted to get a better performance out of Drew. If she continued to believe E.T. was real, then he WAS and she would react in a believable way.
Also sitting here with a tear in my eye x
Yes, wonderful.
Yep same made me tear up.
I think it’s adorable that, Drew genuinely believed that ET was real, to her he wasn’t a puppet or a doll, he was very real. I love that she formed a profound connection with him, she wanted to be his friend, she would bring him lunch and make sure he wasn’t cold. I think it’s awesome that the other actors who noticed her talking away to ET went to Steven and he then had two puppeteers keep ET alive for Drew, so when they interacted he would respond to her. I’m glad that they kept ET alive and that they kept the magic alive for Drew rather then quash it. I believe that we should keep magic alive for children
What a gift to Drew: that all the adults on set played along with her belief that ET was real!
She was 6...why not...
I thought ET was real as a child .that's why I cried when he left
Was she drinking yet??
Netflix should def do an E.T. returns series
i love that she doesn’t feel glued to her chair. This is how i talk to people.
The fact that they still have a family-like bond after 40 long years is amazing! 😌❤️Spielberg gave us all a timeless treasure of a movie … and for that, I’m so thankful that he did! 🤗
Well said!
It never occurred to me that little Drew would think ET was real. I don't know why her revealing that hit me so hard. Even in corrupt Hollywood she was still just a kid and had innocence and childlike wonder.
Yeah, you almost forget that just a couple of years after this film she was shootin' dope.
@@samsterling1462because of bad influences from her parents
Henry Thomas hit the nail on the head with Drew … every movie I’ve seen with her in, I’m always drawn to her. 😊 Watching her show does the same thing! I love how genuine, kind and funny she is! This made my heart happy to see them all together again. 🥰🤗
Even her minor role in Scream she makes you feel sorry for her that's how good of an actress she really is
@@josephmendoza9523 ABSOLUTELY!! That’s a tie with A Nightmare on Elm Street for my fave horror movie, and I totally agree! 😊 Her part may be small, but it sure was impactful! And her crying for her mom … ugh, I almost cried. 🥺
It’s in the genes she comes from a long line of actors and as I call it has that subliminal learning edge. Love to see that kind of a gift that is organically passed on ❤ the power of it is a wonder.
@@Krissybug123 OMG that scene crushed me . I went to see it with a friend, and when they showed showed that scene hanging from the tree, I yelled OMG THEY KILLED DREW BARRYMORE!!! My friend burst out laughing, but I was really traumatized!!! She NAILED that movie.
Lovely people. Drew Barrymore is a true national treasure. She is the best thing out of Hollywood in decades. Who has that much fame with such class, grace and humility? What a lovely person, she brings out the best in all of us.
My E.T. story...my dad took me to see the movie, in the theater, when I was 4. When it got to the scene where E.T. was sick and "dying," I turned to my dad and said, "Daddy, E.T. is gonna die." MY dad looked at me and said that no he wasn't going to die. I said it again and left repeating it till finally I got up and ran out of the theater. My poor dad never got to see the end of the movie until years later when it came out on VHS.
I love this movie and it's story. It's so sweet and genuine.
omg my dad was in his 20-30s in the 80s and when i was ab 5 or 6 in the early 2000s he sat down and watched it with me. I can’t watch the movie without him now so if i ever want to watch it i HAVE to grab him, it’s the same with forest gump, both movies just make me think of him. to this day at 18 i still cry when ET dies for those couple minutes 😭
As child my brain suppressed that part, I've just could seen it many years after :/ ET community @ t: ET_COIN
Omg! I have loved this movie since it came out in the theatre. I was about Drew's age when it came out. My dad took me to see it over and over, and I would cry at the sad parts, and in the end when E.T. goes home I would cry so hard My Dad would have to carry me out of the theatre. This movie has always been so special to us. He passed away three weeks ago. I had a necklace made, it's a heart engraved with "Dad" on one side and "I'll be right here " on the other. Thank you. All of you for making this movie way more than just a movie for me. I love you all for that. Much peace and love ❤
Sorry for your loss.
howre you doing now? Do you wear your necklace all the time?
Hearing how Drew would go and talk to ET like he was real in between takes is the cutest thing I've ever heard of. And what's even cuter is that Spielberg asked two people to always make ET alive for her. Proof that Drew is the cutest sweetest person on the planet!
Henry Thomas went on to be such an amazing actor in some fantastic films. Glad he avoided the kid actor tropes.
He was fantastic as Dr. Mid-nite (Charles McNider) in the CW Stargirl series. When I saw him & realized he was a grown-up Elliott from ET I was stunned! It's another reason that show's cancellation is tough but I know he'll go on to do more great tv shows & movies in the future.
He didn’t become a big star by any means though… but I guess that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The only other films I know of that he was in were “Legends of the Fall” as Brad Pitt’s younger brother and that independent film called “11:14”
Cloak And Dagger is one of the all time greats!!!!!!*** (Greatest films shot in San Antonio).
@@robertwiles8106 Always tell people about Cloak And Dagger to show them old school San Antonio. I really show my age when I say Kelly Air Force Base because now it's Port S.A. and Windsor Park Mall where his computer friend in the movie works is now a tech/i.t. company.
@@nsasupporter7557 He did a lot of other films, and they're all worth seeing.
This is so cool I can't believe E.T. is 40 years old, damn it!!! That means in 2 years I'll be 40. But what I love about this interview is that Dee looks like she's still very maternal to all three of her onscreen kids. It's like watching a real family reunion in this clip. What a perfect Halloween episode.
40 is young!
Dee Wallace is a badass! Total Tiger Mom......ask Cujo!
I can't believe it's 40 years old either. I'll be 51 this year. When the movie was in the theater I saw it twice.
It’s quite poignant when Drew talks about the cast becoming her family in the context of the sadness involving her own family.
I love how Drew is kneeling before Robert and Henry as she's talking about how little her saw them as family and Dee Wallace just off to the side smiling at her 'kids'.
I believed ET was real when I was little, watching this for the first time. I couldn’t understand why the adults wearing plastic bags tried to take him away… It hurt my heart 🥺
Same 💔 😂
He IS real 🤗 Ya never know! I'm 65 and still sob hysterically because ET is treated like a hunted animal. Heartbreaking and magnificent movie.
Sameeee I BELIEVED and I also have and still have a huge imagination, so I felt what Drew said then. I believed too.
I weeped like he was a dog dying.
@@maureen669 it's what humans DO to nice things
E.T. is such an ICONIC movie. Still one of my all time favorite movies ever. i recommend that EVERYONE watch this movie AGAIN. It is just pure MAGIC.
DREW was 5. it's funny to hear her kiddie perspective of filming & being with E.T. 😁
that Steven S, had tech guys keep E.T alive for her. 👍
This has always been my favourite film of all time. I ALWAYS cry my heart out at the end.
Oh my goshhhh that’s him from all those tv shows like midnight mass and Bly manor . Totally freaking out right now
I don't remember him in Midnight Mass. If you're thinking the priest, that's a different guy
@@dianarussell6047 not the priest , his Reillys dad .
@@starsey1986 I really need to watch it again lol.
he plays Ed, Riley's dad. Pretty unrecognizable in that role but great.
@@epihead9196 I haven't seen that series since it came out last year. I am certain I recognized him then. I just only remember the priest.
This movie will be forever one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time. I wish I was 12 years old again watching it in theatres and just in awe of watching what will be the most beloved movies in history. I have watched ET at least 30 times or more. It is, for sure, in my top favorite movies of all time, how can it NOT be? And now, my great nephew, who is 7 is loving it and appreciating it. I am so happy that it is STILL, after 40 years, touching people of newer generations as much it touched me when it first appeared in theatres back in 1982.
I was born in 87, so I missed it in theaters but I know how much of a classic it is… it was huge at the box office and it’s still cherished today… some movies that aren’t that successful at the box office become classics later and then other times it’s the other way around… they were very successful at the box office but don’t age well. But I’m glad that ET was both a huge hit when it came out and is still considered a great movie today just as much as it was when it was new 40 years ago lol
My kids don’t appreciate this movie because they don’t know how much of a classic it is lol
I was 9 when I saw it with my family and, to this day, E. T. is still the best movie-going experience I've had.
Yeah, I remember I watched Poltergiest and ET at the theaters in the summer of 1982. Great times.
@@greatriffishere same
I agree, it is a masterpiece. Spielberg didn't have even a fraction of the technology back then that they have today. He still found a way to pull off the movie and make it look like magic. It is a testament to his skills as a filmmaker.
Henry Thomas seems so sweet; Dee Wallace seems like a great mom ❤
ET is all magic because of everyone single one of you. But Drew you did steal the show.. We feel in love with you Forever.
I luv it when l see her more recent movies. And l will think there is the same little facial expression like when she was in E.T. !! She is a GEM !! Happy Halloween 🎃 !
ET is to this day my favourite movie of all time!
I remember i was 5yrs old and saw it in the theatre! How many people can remember that being the first movie to see in a theatre
So awesome. I’m Drew’s age. This film blew me away when I was a kid. Now my little girl just loves ET.
Drew was just the CUTEST little girl ever in that movie! 😍🥰❤️
ET came out when I was 10 years old and was such a huge part of that time in my childhood. My brother and I saw it 4 days in a row at the movie theater. After the 4th time my parents said enough. Lol
🤣🤣🤣
i was born in 82.. i saw the movie i was like 4-5 years old... what an amazing movie it was !!!! i think i saw it 50 time in the next year..
Dee Wallace looks great and loved her in so many things over the years.
I saw the re release in imax and it still has the the magic. My favorite 80s movie!!!
Drew Barrymore is one of the Best Actresses Ever!!
So many emotions to see them 40 years later with tears in eyes !
This was One of the best movies ever made.
Drew believing E.T. was real during the filming is awesome but also a bit disturbing. She went through hell being a child star. The fact that she has kept her sense of humor throughout her life is truly as beautiful as her soul is. Love you Drew💜
It's not disturbing, she was 6.
Still have my 80's ET viewmaster with ET reels still in decent shape, That movie was pure magic for me watching it when it first came out as a 7 year old and still does
Wow! That's awesome. It would be worth a lot of money - not that you would part with it. I wouldn't :)
All I can say Steven Spielberg is amazing. Love❤❤all his film . Over the years
❤ET always.😊❤
How amazing see the "family" reunited! 😍
this made me cry 😢 bless Steven for looking after these kids so well. I've seen that clip of Henry auditioning and they ad libbed, he was amazing. saying "you can't take him away he's my friend, choking on his tears. wow
So glad to see E.T. make the long trip from Brodo Asogi to be with the reunion!
What a beautiful encounter between Drew and Henry where Spielberg was like a father figure for them both even more, for Drew, who Steven was able to help her and turned her into the actress who we all know. I apologize if I couldn't avoid bursting into tears by seeing this small reunion of the cast of E.T.
It’s great to see E.T. cast reunite together in honor of its 40th Anniversary!
Love the whole cast and this movie is timeless!
Awe i love this! They all love each other like family. It's beautiful. And that story about Steven making sure ET was active for Drew is the cutest! ❤
Henry's audition for ET was so amazing. Go watch it.
E.T. broke my heart as a kid. I loved E.T & I will always remember eating Recess Pieces with my Grandma at E.T. in the theatre.
I will never forget going to see E.T. in theaters in 82 when I was 18. It was amazing. I laughed, cried when he was dying…it’s one of those movies that stayed with me all these years.
I seriously can’t love Drew anymore than I do after seeing her true self on her show in clips like this one! She is just the sweetest woman and was the cutest girl. I love how she connects with her costars..she saw them as her family which is just adorable 🥰
I got the video in circa 91 and to this day masterful.
Considering everyone was afraid it wouldn't go anywhere, it is still iconic to this day....my favourite film an the part that he dies, gets me all the time
The amount of thought and planning that went into E.T. is beyond this world.
Drew Barrymore’s part in Ever After, Donnie Darko and 50 first dates will always be timeless and I’m missing so many films I know
His screen test was amazing. He real was so talented for such a young boy!
This is awesome! I’m glad Drew still loves to acknowledge ET
Me too.
loved the xfinity commercial where elliot reunited for one night with E.T. too
This movie 🎬 was great 👍
I grew up watching this movie i have two coppies of et when it turned 20yrs and whrn it turned 40 yrs and I still watch it to this day
Four of the sweetest most genuine people...
I love this movie. Even 40 years later I bought a dvd. Amazing. I keep trying to explain why. It is a delicate thing. I think I like the sensitivity of how it was done.
I attended the premiere at the Chinese theater in Hollywood in May of 1982. I actually ended up sitting next to Drew during the movie.
I've recently watched Henry's first casting. He was SO GOOD ! He was able to cry and to make us feel all émotions. Acting seems so difficult to me. I love this meeting, it's vert emotional and funny too.
She is the sweetest girl ever
that film STILL makes me cry at the end its a beautiful classic
I remember I was 5 when ET came out. My mom took me to see it in theaters, and I wanted so badly to go behind that big screen and meet ET 😆
One of my favourite movies of all times
Steven Speilberg keeping ET alive for lil Drew Barrymore of camera cause she saw him as a real living friend is just precious I can’t even say it any other way
Wearing my tee shirt today. My cousin took me too see it at the theater. And we got Reese pieces which were new!!!
My favorite movie of all time! I remember been 11 years old sitting next to My Mother at the movies holding Her hand and crying, and when I looked up at Her, She was crying more than I was! 😢❤
Thank you Mr. Spielberg for making such a beautiful movie that I still watch often and cry as it was the first time! ❤❤
Man I wish Steven Spielberg would make a E.T. Return movie, starting all of the original cast as adults now! I would love to see it.👌😎👉♥️🙏👍now that would be cool!
E.T, one of the greatest movies ever made.
Time flies by so fast!. I am from San Antonio, TX. I met Henry Thomas my freshman year of college 1996. I was in my dorm at the University of the Incarnate Word, Clement Hall. Katie Finch lived across from me. She said she knew Henry Thomas. We were not sure if she was being serious. Then one day she knocked on my door, and said Henry is here. I laughed and said where? In my room. I went to her room to see, and I was SHOCKED! IT WAS HIM! I said hello, and he said hi. I remember he was tall and shy. I am 44 now, and I will never forget it!
The best commercial ever is when ET came to visit Elliot for the holidays!
😭
I just want to say... E.T. is my all time favorite movie ever!!!
Thank You so much Henry, Robert, Dee and especially you Drew... for your flawless performances that helped make the film such a memorable gem these past 40 years.
And a special thanks to the man himself who made it all happen with his brilliant direction... Steven Spielberg!!!
Love everything about her!
god he was such an incredible child actor. The depth in Elliot. Second to none.
I've never watched her show but I'm a huge fan and I love how sincere she is and just real! Her show doesn't seem fake like so many others before her.
My 11 year old daughter just saw this movie for the first time yesterday. She loved it and of course cried at the end.
Straight tears in my eyes. When u wish u were a part of something so bad, the experience they had. Living in the 80s, 90s, what a time! Man i miss it so much. I miss just blockbuster, hollywood videos. Late night "pick out your movies" man oh man
Drew’s awesome! Wears her heart on her sleeve and is real af
Did everyone just LOVE the Christmas commercial with ET and Elliot?
OMG WHAT A CAST❤️❤️❤️
Drew is same age as me, I always wanted to tell her she's so talented, and wanted to have a girlfriend as outgoing, and sweet as her, but I could never find her, so just let her know, she's one of a kind, and even when she was growing up through those phases where she was troubled by her weight, I still thought she was a beautiful person, and inside and out. Drew you will forever be my dream girl/ woman and Im so glad you found happiness with your husband and have a great family and life now, you got your stuff together, and you deserve everything you've earned
I forget how young she was in the movie. At her age having that belief is so strong and so pure. But it’s even cuter to hear that she believed.
This made me cry. E.T. was my FIRST cinema movie and my ultimate favorite to this day. I wasn't much older than Drew. PLEASE CONSIDER A SEQUEL You were my first onscreen family too ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Drew getting on her knees seemed to recapture a bit of that old relationship, she was no longer drew berrymore sitting on her TV stage hosting her show, for a moment she looked like a 5 year old finally telling the older kids how much she looked up to them 😂❤
This is my first movie I’ve ever saw as a kid in 1982 . I was 4 years old when my grandmother took me to the best film ever . This is one of my top 10 movies of all time .
When i was a little i would always cry at the end when ET went home every time i saw it because i didn't want ET to leave. i loved him like Drew did
Great cast and I did like that scarf she put on ET. Amazing.
Drew was indeed so adorable and supercute in E.T. 😄
I was 8 years old in 1982 when my family immigrated from East Germany to the US, and E.T. was the first movie I saw in the theater. I didn't know any English yet, but I understood the context and pure emotion of this film. I remember crying so hard as a child, and I still cry so hard every time I watch it. Seriously one of the best movies of all time!
Steven NEEDS to make a part two. “E.T. The Return “
What sweet stories.
First movie I went to see at the movies, at 3 yrs old. Forever my favorite!!!
Good thing you wasn't 12 months old or wouldn't of remembered anything!
Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore definitely made that masterpiece happen!!
Love this reunion! I think that E.T. is one of those rare perfect movies in every respect that will live on forever in people's hearts! One of my favorites of all time! 👽💖
Wow. What an awesome reunion. Happy Anniversary. 😊
It’s like seeing an old friend .. I was 12 the year ET came out. I’m the same age as Henry Thomas. I love every one of them. ❤❤
Henry Thomas.. BEST KID ACTRESS of ALL TIME!
I wanted Tommy Howell too😢💕
Where’s my life gone. One of the best films ever 🙌🏼
